RIP Anthem – but did we need another big-name redemption story?

Hope has faded at last for the resurrection of BioWare’s ill-fated MMO-ish looter-shooter Destiny thing. Despite reports that it was definitely not getting binned late last year, EA has pulled the plug.

Though this is sad for the game's fans, would it have been healthy for the industry to see another game 'saved' from mediocrity at launch, and is it a good thing for consumers to come to expect it?

If we is EA, specifically Bioware, I would say even importantly yes.

I bought it. I enjoyed it. Played the post game content that was sparse but quite good. The SP portion was great. They should have stuck with that model and had more story with some MP lite.

no how about we don't need redemption stories and instead we get games when they launch they are fully ready to play and have enough content after launch. These greedy publishers are always looking for the next big thing. They just want to go with the trends and make the game which could be the most boring game of all time but if they can generate more money that's all they care about

I think there is a big difference between a single-player vs multi-player disaster. Multi-player games developer/publisher has only a single month of window for successful. If that game is not successful at their 1st month of release, that game is doomed. For single player game, like Cyberpunk, it can be patched, improved, re-make, for years to come. 2-5 years from now people may still buy that game. Even EA now accept this reality & allow Dragon Age 4 to be a strictly single-player game.

If BioWare wants a redemption story, just make Dragon Age and New Mass Effect the stories fans want. EA doesn't deserve to have a happy ending with GaaS-BioWare

Failed games made by greedy Devs who could of made the game absolutely brilliant and cocked it up because if the money from sales instead of showing support to fans and getting it right in the first place.

Would have loved to seen this game get past the ignorance and idiocy of the internet. It's an amazing game. It literally just need more content and some quality of life updates that they had planned.
