still blows my mind that best way to play switch games is play them somewhere else

luckytrouble1425d ago

Is it really all that surprising? Even a budget PC from a few years ago easily outdoes the power of the Switch, and it's common for emulation of more modern consoles to step things up with better framerates, higher resolutions, and other improvements. Just compare a Wii game running on Dolphin to an actual Wii. There are significant differences that can easily turn your PC into a super Wii.

TrueMetal1425d ago

Don't we all want a Super Wii?

anonymousfan1425d ago

For TV mode sure but as far as portability goes... Switch is hard to beat.

King_Noctis1425d ago

And how would you go about to play those games in portable mode?

nowitzki20041425d ago

Some of us dont play portable. I own a Switch and have never used it outside my house. I enjoy plenty of other devices and games that I cannot bring anywhere.

King_Noctis1425d ago

"Some of us dont play portable"

The keyword here is "some". While you and some other people strictly play on TV, there are alot others that play in portable mode as well.

autobotdan1425d ago

Some of us never play Switch on a tv. I personally never play my Nintendo switch on my home TV. I always exclusively play it portable. My Nintendo switch is never used to play switch games on a TV.

RaidenBlack1424d ago

Well, N.Switch is a really good portable device.
But ...
If you really want to device an alternative, the A12Bionic and A13Bionic for example is relatively faster than Tegra X1 in Switch.
So equipping at minimum an iPad Mini(5th gen with A12) with strap on gamepads will yield similar or better results. Apple has a very good API, Metal. And they're also building up the Apple Arcade gradually.

That applies for any emulator except Saturn or some arcade pcbs.

Nebaku1425d ago

Cool story bro. Enjoy emulating them behind a computer screen, with tons of lag, with a controller not made to play then, with zero online capabilities.

But yeah, definitely the "best".

nowitzki20041425d ago

You could emulate to a tv.. And use Switch pro controller.

Hungryalpaca1424d ago

Or you know...just use a pro controller and do this magical thing called plug the HDMI into the tv?

Sirk7x1425d ago

Full speed and accurate emulation will always beat the original console. Problem is, most consoles don't get hacked inside out.

Neonridr1424d ago

are you surprised that a PC with limitless hardware restrictions can display games better than locked hardware? Horizon looks stunning on top end PC's too. Does that surprise you?

I always find emulation lesser than the original. I've tons of games backed up but it's not the same. It's fun just to try out but it's likely you won't stick at it till completion

nowitzki20041425d ago

Well thanks for telling us how you feel.

Hungryalpaca1424d ago

This guy always tries to downplay Pc every chance he gets and often makes himself look the fool.

jeromeface1424d ago

spoken like someone who truly doesn't understand emulation

Asuka1425d ago

This just makes me want a Switch Pro

Imortus_san1424d ago

Switch the most ussless console I have ever bought until today, got make time to actually dust it out and see if it still works.

After the hype wore off during the height of COVID I found New Horizons disappointing compared to. Ew Leaf

NH gave us a lot more cool features but then took things away which they slowly drip fed us with poor updates

Crazy how much it sold and how popular it was during COVID and it got such terrible support

We need more control in the next game, the fact we couldn’t move the airport or town hall was ridiculous and certain items were randomised, like I could get a black lamppost unless a friend gave me one of his because mine were green.

Nyxus62d ago

In the end I still prefer New Leaf, one of the most important factors being the breakable tools. It gets pretty annoying when you have to keep making bug nets, fishing rods etc in New Horizons.

scorpio_204961d ago

It came out at the perfect time and was completely abandoned save for a couple of small updates. Those months after release could have taken the game to a whole other level but I guess Nintendo wasn’t impressed with the number of active players.

My top 3 are Mario 3, Mario World and Mario 64. Mario Odyssey is also excellent, and I enjoyed Sunshine but didn't care for the Galaxy series.

Nintendo Select: 5 Switch Games That Deserve A Second Chance

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "The Nintendo Switch has been one Nintendo’s most successful systems ever, both measured by the number of units sold and the quality of its titles, but if there’s one thing this generation has been missing it would have to be the Nintendo Selects line, bringing existing titles that had paid their dues back at bargain prices. With the Switch now entering its twilight years, and there being few new titles in store for the foreseeable future, what better time could there be to bring back this tried-and-true tradition? While the actual realization of it may be doubtful given how rigid both hardware and software prices have become in recent years, that only gives us all the more reason to dream up a hypothetical lineup of our own.

For this article the specific focus will not be on those massive multi-million evergreens that the lineup would no doubt contain a few of to cement its value, but instead on games that for one reason or another fell short of their full potential the first time around and deserve a second chance to reach more players at an affordable price. Let’s get started."

I really want Xenoblade Chronicles X on the Switch, can't believe that hasen't been ported. I'm playing Skyward Sword at the moment and I'm almost finished, but it's so long and the controls are so bad, even without motion. Astral Chain is fantastic though, they should make a sequel.
