Metro Exodus players are leaving thousands of positive reviews - on Steam

Something akin to the opposite of review-bombing is going on over at the Metro Exodus Steam store page. The Steam store doesn't sell the game - it was removed after the publishers signed a timed exclusivity deal for the game to be sold on the Epic Games store for 12 months.
You'd think, then, Metro Exodus would suffer a similar review-bombing on Steam as other titles in the popular series have. But it hasn't, in fact the opposite is true.

Pirate game, leave steam review, teach lesson for screwing over potential buyers to save a buck.

WombBat1920d ago

I have no interest in the game and I will probably buy it on Epic.

Price of games stayed the same, dollars value down, price of game development skyrocketed. This is good for all developers, and lessens the effect of the middle man. This only benefits developers, who are often forced to work tremendous amounts of overtime to compensate for the deadlines put on because of astronomical development costs.

Epic is for the developers.

FinalFantasyFanatic1920d ago

I'll buy it on Epic just to support the developer, I think some people are going to crazy with their disappointment with the way the PC version was released.

Rachel_Alucard1919d ago

@wombat

"This only benefits developers"

And that's exactly why nobody likes that storefront.

AnthonyDavis1919d ago

This game is not that good. It’s barely better than the old Metro games in a direct comparison. This game should have improved more but still feels like an archaic Medal of Honor game.

zackeroniii1919d ago (Edited 1919d ago )

Not like there's a special place for people who don't pirate games...

I actually got the game for free :D RARBG FTW, CPY are master crackers.

Well good for you cheap A@@ hole

XxINFERNUSxX1919d ago (Edited 1919d ago )

100% movies/tv shows/music. 90% games, 10% I buy. I have a Switch after all, and I usually invest some $$ in my fav MMO Guild Wars 2. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video? LMAO Why waste $$ when it's up on the torrent sites the same day the shows are out ..smh. And soon they upload 4k in a few weeks, I have a massive collection of media. At least 8+TB

MoshA1920d ago

Meh not even worth pirating. mediocre multiplat. right now i've got too many HIGHLY RATED games to play. Most of which happen to be exclusives.

starchild1920d ago

Fanboy delusion at it's best. Imagining games are automatically better because they are exclusive. Metro Exodus is an outstanding game. I'd put it up there with some of the better exclusives I've played.

watchem1919d ago

It's a good game, not mediocre at all.

SilverDemon1920d ago

And people wonder why companies dont make single player games as much as they used to

When dice turned against the fans with bf5, people just didn't but it but with metro, they pirate the game and brag about it in front of the devs/publishers

No wonder some pc games has online drm. It makes so much more since why sony is the only one keeping liner single player alive. They dont need to deal with shitheads like those people

Vegamyster1920d ago

His comment is the exception, not the rule. Virtually all the reviews on the game here are high praise, there are no mentions of piracy in them. BF5 didn't do well because it was advertised poorly, not finished and EA’s chief design officer told the user base "either accept it or don’t buy the game" lol, he left the company shortly after that. Deepsilver received backlash for pulling out of Steam shortly before its launch on a lesser game launcher, any dev would have had the same thing happen whether it was SP or MP.

AuraAbjure1920d ago

How did potential buyers get screwed?

rainslacker1920d ago

Quite honestly, all the controversy surrounding the store exclusivity probably brought a lot more attention to the game than it would have gotten otherwise. While there will always be vocal forum goers who say how evil all this is, or they won't use another game launcher, or whatever, the average consumer doesn't care that much, and especially on PC, isn't so adamant about staying loyal to Steam.

I think stuff like this shouldn't become the norm though. It sucks when it happens on consoles, and I really see no need for it on PC for the long term. Epic is doing it now to build their store, and I understand it, and it does suck for those who want the benefits from Steam. But, building a store against Steam isn't as simple as just throwing up a store front and calling it a day. Steam is way too entrenched, and outside of building their entire service to match Steam before releasing, which would take years, there isn't much more that could be done.

That said, I think Epic, being Epic, probably isn't going to rest on its laurels to add features that people want. They have never really been a half-assed kind of company, and I believe that Steam needs more solid competition. The revenue cuts are good for the developer, but Steam can't be ignored by the developer because it's just too big to ignore, which puts any new storefront at a disadvantage.

NarutoFox1920d ago

It's actually a good game though

nucky641920d ago

you advocate stealing and then criticize the game company for trying to save money. do you know how foolish you sound?

MrVux0001919d ago (Edited 1919d ago )

And then people are "surprised" why certain devs don't develop some games (or any games) for PC.

Heck they are even 'insulted' by devs that push for PC DRM lol.

opc1919d ago

can you even review a game on steam that you didn't buy on steam?

DigitalRaptor1920d ago

Good to see. Exodus is one of the only good games to come out of February.

Felix_Argyle_Catbro1920d ago

From this month alone I've played 7 great indie games. Don't just stare at AAA, you're missing out!

DigitalRaptor1920d ago (Edited 1920d ago )

I wasn't exactly discounting indie games in particular. Devotion is on my list of games to check out. Out of interest, what are some of the games are you referring to and if I missed them I might check some of them out?

TheGamingArt1920d ago

It's really not. It has some of the worst story/animations/voice acting in a game I've played in a long time...

Felix_Argyle_Catbro1920d ago

I can't reply to your reply so I'll reply to your first post.

Devil Engine
Astroneer
Away: Journey to the Unexpected
Wargroove
Eastshade
Hyper Jam
Devotion

AK911920d ago

No surprises it’s a great game.

TK-661920d ago (Edited 1920d ago )

I think people should start reading what they're actually doing. They're basically voicing their disapproval at the EGS timed exclusivity but instead of posting a negative review its a positive. They're bombing the game in a way that basically covers them from being accused of doing so.

One of them even shouts out to people who'll be looking to purchase the game in 2020.

rainslacker1920d ago (Edited 1920d ago )

I'd think if they actually thought it was good, they'd say to support the dev, and leave the devotion to Steam at the door. Go buy it on Epic's Store, enjoy it, and call it a day.

It's one game, and if it's good, it should get that recognition and sales for that. Not be used as some political maneuver to help steam keep it's stronghold on the PC gaming market. Steam can handle itself, it doesn't need people fighting for them, and what I see as an outside observer who doesn't care about PC gaming much, and has no real attachment to Steam or Epic, is that this is nothing more than the console war, but focused in on store fronts.

I realize Steam has benefits the consumer may like about Steam, and I even understand some of the people who say they just don't want another launcher(although I feel that's a stretch given how PC is set up), but at the same time, if they cared about the games, that's really all that matters. Not Steam. Not Epic. Not anyone else.

There are better ways to express one's distaste for what happened here without pulling the game itself into it.

Amplitude1920d ago (Edited 1920d ago )

@rainslacker

Nah man im legit excited for it but im still not buying it on EGS.
I've considered torrenting it but im just gonna wait til the Steam release.

The issue with using another launcher is that is damn annoying. I like to play games in Big Picture mode on my TV. I dont even touch the mouse and keyboard i just flop on the couch and push the Guide button and bam i can start playing my library of over 1000 games.

If i buy Metro on EGS all of a sudden i need to split the monitors (my TV is facing away from my computer desk), open EGS for literally one game, wait for it to update blah blah blah finally start the game - which will open on my PC screen so then its just this whole other annoying garbage to switch the main monitor to the TV.
Thats just one reason. Its also incomplete in the sense that im a bit of an achievement hunter. I could sit here and list all the other reasons why its bs to be forced to use EGS but everybody's already done it.

Im also not putting money into a store that WILL die. Epic drops everything that doesn't make them money. RIP Paragon. Putting a bunch of money into a new unproven store is a reeeeally bad idea because you're just buying licences that can be taken away at any moment. Steam is the same way but at least it's proven itself. Once Fortnite dies off EGS will lose traction and eventually it will shut down - and paying off devs to be exclusive to them is a dirty enough tactic that even if it was the greatest launcher in the world i wouldnt wanna support it anyway. Make a good store launcher and maybe people will wanna use it - but paying off devs is lame

You said PC gamers dont care which launcher they use and i think youre 100% wrong. Steam is the only good one and we all know it lol

rainslacker1919d ago (Edited 1919d ago )

@Ax

I can respect what you say. I just think for the time being, people are also disregarding what Epic will have to do to build it's service. If they wait to be feature comparable to Steam, they'd delay their start into the market. Steam spent how long to get to where they are now? They are still adapting, changing, adding new features, or even taking them away as they try to figure it all out.

I understand people's trepidation over using a new service, and not finding it ideal, and I will state that you make the strongest argument yet, that Epic's store may not be around for the long term, and that there isn't the faith there invest in getting games because you may not have access to them. I can 100% see the point of view of not wanting to be in a GFWL scenario down the road.

At the same time though, Steam has not really had any serious competition in the market, and I do believe it's something that will be beneficial in the long run. Of all the companies out there, MS is now trying(again), and I'd assume you have similar misgivings about them, although I doubt they'll drop their Windows store like they did with GFWL. MS has other issues with PC gamers though, which stem more from them being MS, but that's another topic. Epic though is one of the most influential companies in gaming, and have the resources to make something good for the consumers. But it will take time. If they do well, Steam has actual competition. To me though, having another launcher really isn't a good excuse, because there are already multiple launchers on PC, and if you stay 100% to steam, you're already closing yourself off, and allowing too much control to a single entity. Gabe started Steam to be almost the exact opposite of MS, but through the years, with practically no competition, they've become more like them in many ways, and have become increasingly overbearing towards developers, and even the consumers. People speak out sometimes, but there are no other options really.

What I don't understand so much is people treating this as you'd see it in the console space. People act like they are being prevented from playing the game, and that's not the case on PC. It's a different scenario.

As far as the big screen mode, I'm not overly familiar with how it works on TV's, and I don't game that way when I use PC. But I know that Windows is capable of displaying full screen without much effort, and Windows can be controlled through controller. It's extra steps for now, and not as convienant as Steam made it, but I find it more of a nitpick for PC users, who generally will be adaptable to do what's needed to make it work. It might be less desirable to those who aren't as versed in PC configurations, but the people on here that talk about such things I assume have enough skill to not be too fussed about it.

For the first time in a long time I have a hard time feeling excited for these events. Maybe it's because of all these massive lay offs and closures there hasn't exactly been good news since the start of the year.

Maybe come next week I'll get a little more excited but I dunno I just can't get too excited right now

Maybe it will be an indie showcase.
