Does Microsoft Have Much To Prove at E3 2018?

This latest episode weighs in on Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo and who has the most pressure on their shoulders to reveal their best games at E3 2018.

but the other issue is, fans of xbox have been happy with their output and quality of the games. i for one think its pathetic i want good games not unfinished crap to play on my x or pc. they have alot to prove to me personally other wise i will stick with Pc next gen and forget buying any xbox console.

Being happy for trailers to games that don't come out, or downgraded or get canceled, is not the same as being happy for games that come out within 2-3 and reasonably delivers if not exceeds expectations.

agreed Chrisx. MS has dropped the ball BIGTIME on first party efforts as of late and SOT and SOD2 are mediocre at best and I love Xbox but I am not defending there subpar efforts anymore. Its embarrassing and I feel like Phil is more of a mouthpiece that is just doing the bare minimum and its showing in the bare minimum efforts for there games. The first party is a mess and if they delay Crackdown yet again then they have pretty much proven what alot of people have been thinking all along that they just dont care as much and are just getting by with BC and will propably fall into third place very fast. Phil and Satya are showing that MS commitment to Xbox is a joke compared to what it was with the X360. I wont get my hopes up for them this E3 as they have way to much to prove and this gen is pretty much over for them. They have sunken to far as to not even talk about console numbers for a while now and the weird metrics they use for headshots fired and hours played on particular games is just sad overall. They have lost faith themselves and are just trying to make a profit with Live accounts and now the Gamepass. Its messed up how far they have fallen. All I can say to them is good luck but you will lose even more fans to PS4 pretty soon with the lack of drive they have displayed. More focus is put on BC than new IP's and thats not good as great as BC is. The primary focus should ALWAYS be first party.

Well it sounds like if you only play gears of war you're set with 3 new gears games coming. The only variety Xbox has is varying quality of shooters

As far Xbox One goes, I am hoping for a new Halo, big budget Fable, Gears Of War and some new IP's. More backwards compatibility announcements for OG XBox and XBox 360 is always good news (at least for me), especially if they are Xbox One X enhanced. I am actually happy with all current gen consoles. I want them all to do well at E3!!! The more games I can play, the better.

I don't think they will show a big budget Fable yet. They will likely show GOW, halo maybe, and they will most probably show Horizon 4.

I think it was only in the last year or so that they cottoned on to the fact that they lack serious 1st party support. I think they've only just showed the seeds to begin to address that. Don't think we will see alot here apart from 3rd party stuff.

It's not that they don't have the numbers when it comes to exclusives. It's just that compared to rest of the competition their exclusives are..well a joke really. What they need is not the exclusives in number only but in quality too. Sony's biggest exclusive this year are GOW and Detroit so far. Microsoft also released it's biggest exclusives- Sea of thieves and SOD2. Now just compare them...and the result is that there is a huge gap in quality between the and TBF there really is no comparison.
So even if they announce games this E3 it won't matter because announcing is not the real problem, it's delivering on those announcement where Microsoft really lacks. Quality, that's where they have to actually prove to their fans.

To me, I’m fine with what MS has offered. Since they have switched their mind set from games to services I’ve spent more time playing games. Do they need new ips and better “rated” games... maybe, but in this day and age I’m too busy with my kids and work to even really care.

They've set the bar so low so that they can spare themselves the energy of having to actually show up to E3 with the intent of wowing people.

Xboners have shown that they can be easily swayed with very mediocre and abysmal video games and implementations. They continue to lift the burden off of M$ shoulders to do anything worthwhile with the set top box.

MS has always been hung up on stuff like bragging rights but haven't been focused enough on giving gamers what they want, hence why they don't have much to brag about when compared to Sony and Nintendo. If they are to prove anything at this year's E3 it's that Xbox owners can have quality exclusives to play, contrary to what we've seen in the last few years.

Doesn't really matter, they lost. Microsoft has an incredibly weak first-party due, in part, to their length of time in the industry. Sony and Nintendo have head decades more time working with developers and establishing relationships, Microsoft doesn't. They just have money. So Microsoft needs to work in a similar fashion working with smaller and newer development companies to help them grow into veteran companies, if they can't do that, then they're lost, they're too far behind the two giants. Even with Scorpio Microsoft can't get ahead and they have the most powerful console. They can try with the next Xbox but, why bother? Xbox One X came out and nobody cares, they're still eating up Sonys console having played God of War, then onto Detroit, with Days Gone and Spider-Man (which is sold out in pre-orders on Amazon) with The Last of Us Part II everyone is waiting for around the corner to he followed up by Death Stranding and then Ghost of Tsushima, what does Microsoft have?

PlayStation has exactly one generation over Xbox. That's not an excuse at all. Xbox has been a thing for 17 years now. That's more than enough time to cultivate 1st party talent.

Not much really, xbox games seem to be happy with the mediocre games MS has released, all MS needs to do is more services, BC and 4k multiplates and no one will complain because they’ll believe they’ll have the better console. Any one that does complain will be instantly branded a fanboy that doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

Expect the usual gears, halo, forza, some Damage control numbers and stats for game pass SOT and SOD. Old BC games and missue of the word exclusive and controllers LOTS of controllers

But hey maybe they’ll finallyrelease Crackdown 3 a game thats almost on TLG status
