Sega defends Sega Forever launch after fan outcry

Last week, Sega announced it was going to bring a selection of its back catalogue to mobile - and possibly beyond - with Sega Forever, a service that would allow people to play classic games for free.

The interviewer is a total a**hole in this article.

VideoGamesAreDumb2528d ago

Interviewers are not your friends. They are there to get answers. None of these questions are out of line, in fact they gave the Sega rep to defend Forever's features and highlight it's strengths.

KakashiHotake2528d ago

Seemed more like an interrogation than an interview.

MoveTheGlow2528d ago

He was at least informed. I liked that he mentioned M2, because M2 does the best emulation, has plenty of experience with Sega hardware, and should have been at the helm of this project from the beginning.

X-Alchemist2528d ago

No, I think it was quite fair. He was just asking what everyone was thinking, quite refreshing when most interviewers ass lick or sugar coat.

Princess_Pilfer2528d ago

Oh dear god, it's gotten so bad that when games journalists ask hard questions now they're too mean.

The west is screwed.

Sega currently offers more options to play classic games, and people still find something to complain about? You have the original games, the mini version coming soon with the ROMs AND cartridge support, plus mobile; and yet there's those few out there who will still find something to nit pick?

Just because the software released isn't 100% doesn't mean "that's it," just means there's room for improvement, and updates.

"the mini version coming soon with the ROMs AND cartridge support"

What are you referring to here? Just curious.

It's called Sega Genesis Flashback, I'm thinking of buying one when it releases.

superchiller2528d ago (Edited 2528d ago )

The problem with those "flashback" consoles (in the past at least) is that the image quality, colors/brightness, and emulation options, and wired controllers have been pretty mediocre. The NES Classic proved that cheap plug-and-play mini consoles could produce very good quality emulation, but other companies have yet to match the quality of emulation on the Classic.

Im sorry for being ignorant on issues but................

When people say "Outcry", is there like a number that they are looking for, say 200,000 people? Or does it take just one person for it to be considered an outcry? Where do they look for these outcries?

TheColbertinator2528d ago

I determine that number on a case by case basis.

YoungKingDoran2528d ago

Just 1 upset weenie is an outcry these days

CarlosX3602528d ago (Edited 2528d ago )

I tried these games on my android phone. You're better off with a controller than the phone. The effort put into the ports is a valiant one. They did a great job with the creativity, and the graphics, but the controls is/are left to desired. They work, but they're not good for "run and jump" commands (i.e. in Sonic, you do a lot of that) ...Hopefully Sega expands this Sega Forever initiative to go into game consoles, because they did a great job with the port(s), just that it's not suitable for phones.

Sega Forever is doomed to failure unless Sega delivers what fans actually want - Droid Gamers

Sega recently announced that it’s switching focus from emulations to ports in 2018 for Sega Forever. This is down to the fact that the ports have received far more downloads than any of the emulated games.

I really hate how I can’t even play Sonic 2 or Sonic CD anymore without being connected online because of this service

TheColbertinator2277d ago

Great idea for a service and Sega somehow ruins it all.
