Mass Effect Andromeda Is Full Of Awkward And Reused Animations, Performance Issues, And Glitches

ThisGenGaming says "It appears that Mass Effect Andromeda has a serious lack in quality control with the final version of the game including many bugs, glitches, awkward animations and dialogue. Here's some examples."

As a huge fan of the original trilogy, this makes me sad. I feel like this game is going to let a lot of people down.

bouzebbal2631d ago

If you are a huge fan you should play it and test it for yourself.

Godmars2902631d ago

Yes.

Give them your money for something you know was half@$$ed.

thekhurg2631d ago

No, that's stupid. If numerous outlets start reporting that the game is full of glitches, bugs, and other problems then you should not "test it for yourself". You should ignore the game until there are numerous reports that it has been fixed.

machtkampf2631d ago

Jeeze, salty for no reason eh?

KwietStorm_BLM2631d ago

I'm never one to buy a game based on reviews or someone else's opinion, but this game sounds worse every time it's brought up. Things like bugs and glitches and awkward animations, specifically, are not even opinion though, and it's probably half the reason we don't get demos anymore. The general public doesn't read reviews and previews, but you can't hide these things in a proper demo.

mikeslemonade2630d ago

And so far Mass Effect 1 seems to be still the best Mass Effect.

Vhampir2630d ago

Oh ok, commencing preorder............. UNKNOWN ERROR!

ABizzel12630d ago

@bouzebbal

If they were an honest developer they would put a demo out and let gamers test it for themselves, instead of having them spend $60 on a product they plan to patch up months later.

shockwave4life2630d ago

Or buy it used on eBay like I do with my games!

n4g_drama2631d ago

Just look at the human character models. They look horrible compared to the last gen versions.

I am extremely concerned for this game. Was this the same team that made the first 3 Mass Effects or a whole new squad at bioware?

I dont know what the deal is but my god the male human character looks way too short. It's almost like they wanted to make a teen movie version of Mass Effect.

TWB2630d ago

As far as I know, a few from the creative lead left after ME3. I dont know how many exactly, but apparently enough to make a difference.

vickers5002630d ago

I'm not sure, I just remember story after story of people leaving bioware to work elsewhere, which I now know means any franchise that happens to generally dies (in terms of quality).

I've been worried about this game for about a year and a half now, ever since the bioware departures started trickling in. It doesn't NECESSARILY mean a franchise will go to crap if a few people leave, but it usually means you'll end up with a far different franchise than before, and that usually tends to be bad.

It also didn't help that they constantly references the mediocre dragon age inquisition as inspiration and a learning experience when talking about Andromeda.

Andromeda is effectively in the hands of a new team, the original team is gone. I have little hope for this new iteration.

2630d ago
deathtok2630d ago

Yup this one has me nervous. Loved the original trilogy but multiple sites now are reporting the game is boring and glitchy.

It could be Mass Effect AndromeDUD.

I'm not surprised with some of the negative feedback. Nothing felt right about this during most of it's lengthy development, the delays, the lack of information, the communication with fans, revealing things more close to release. You could tell something was up and honestly I think there's been more issues with the development then Bioware/EA let on.

CP_Company2631d ago

they even canceled beta testing :)

-Foxtrot2631d ago (Edited 2631d ago )

That aswell

There's probably more little things which on its own mean nothing but bundle them together and you'll notice that something may be up.

I just hope reviewers are honest. You can't expect them to improve with future games when the shit you churn out is doing well.

NarooN2631d ago

I remember that. The excuse they gave for why they canned that beta didn't even make sense to me. I had to re-read it like two more times and was like "huh? why is that a valid reason to can it?"

_-EDMIX-_2631d ago

"I think there's been more issues with the development then Bioware/EA let on."

Agreed but how many developers do you really think are going to expose what's really going on within their Studios?

I actually think how they've announced and shown gameplay is likely due to Electronic Arts not wanting the game held under extreme scrutiny between gameplay builds which I actually think has more to do with how they want to Market it than any trouble with in development, I actually think it's probably a good idea most Publishers do this with some of their games because titles like The Witcher 3 that did not have the luxury of just having a short six-month marketing campaign, it was just brutally scrutinized from when it was first shown before its initial release with comparison videos and photos.

Christopher2631d ago

***Agreed but how many developers do you really think are going to expose what's really going on within their Studios? ***

None. It's called an NDA. You don't want to be sued and or fired, you don't break it.

Hardiman2631d ago

It is strange how tight lipped they have been about the game and the lack of game play previews that usually accompany the marketing of a big game release. I'm defiantly holding off purchasing this game.

AcidDvl2631d ago

I made that comment some days ago, about how shady it was getting. I was mocked and downvoted.

Guess I was right...

ThunderGod_Cid2631d ago

Remember when BioWare shutdown all their message boards last year, I guess no user feedback = good user feedback.

Dirtnapstor2631d ago (Edited 2631d ago )

It got pushed out the door when it was not ready, just like the multitude of games before it. You'd think by now publishers would know that delaying a product can only improve things vs having to handle damage control. But what do I know, I'm not on anyone's board...
I am looking forward to this installment, however I'll wait a while before I buy this.

That's what happens when you replace most of the original staff with token 'diversity' hires and racists.

AnubisG2631d ago

But, but, but you have to be inclusive and politically correct!!!!/ sarcasm.

bluefox7552631d ago

If your goal is anything other than "the best people for the job", you shouldn't be surprised when your employees put out a sub-par product.

InTheLab2631d ago

Or.... Bioware has been on a slide since DA2?

Allsystemgamer2630d ago

Because the keep hiring bad people....which is what he said....

strangerthings19952631d ago

Like the Horizon Zero Dawn characters? In one scene near the end you see a video recording of the past in a room with one Asian guy,one Asian girl,One black guy,one black girl, and some white dude

Allsystemgamer2630d ago

And had you actually paid any attention you'd know why....

notachance2631d ago

their game has been littered with forced diversity and political correctness ever since DA:I, it's cringy.
If feminaziware wants to put women at the centre so much at least make it feels natural / narrative proper like Horizon, Tomb Raider, Dishonored 2, etc...

RedPill862630d ago

To be fair, this is the C team. It's not Edmonton. Even though a lot of guys from Edmonton still left and never came back since they started this behaviour after the ME2 development.

Sirk7x2631d ago (Edited 2631d ago )

Yeah, I realized something stank months ago, as they haven't been too keen or proud on showing anything off. Loved the ME original trilogy, will not be spending my money on this.

jaymacx2630d ago

First Mirror's Edge Catalyst, Now Mass Effect? 2 of my favorite series ruined. What is going on at EA????
Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2 were good though.

vickers5002630d ago

Andromeda looks like garbage but I rather enjoyed Mirrors Edge Catalyst, thought it was every bit as good as the original.

IanTH2630d ago

I just picked up Mirror's Edge Catalyst for $10...I've enjoyed what I've played over the last few hours. I'm not sure why the game got such a bad rap, I really enjoyed the first one and held off to grab this at a reduced price given the lukewarm to poor reception it received overall...but I'm not sure why. What is it you didn't like about it?

Yui_Suzumiya2630d ago

Actually I finally got Mirror's Edge: Catalyst last month and I loved it. Couldn't even finish the first due to the controls.

-Foxtrot2631d ago

My god...Mass Effect 3 looked better then that

It makes Shepard look like the most emotional person ever

2630d ago
Rachel_Alucard2630d ago

@anxiety

So that excuses the emotionless animations? How do you explain Me 1-3 then? The trilogies are pretty awful when it comes conveying emotion but Andromeda just looks like they gave up on trying and just said, "Who needs animation when you can just smile at everything?"

_-EDMIX-_2631d ago

Actually quite creepy and haunting.

Sounds like they're transition to using frostbite might have been very rough

andrewsquall2631d ago

Said it already today and I will say it again, Frostbite engine is awful for character models and the ability to express emotion by today's, or hell even Naughty Dog's 2009, standards.

Pandamobile2631d ago

The engine is only as good as the content being fed into it. For large games like Mass Effect, the character animation systems have to be scalable enough to produce a large interactive world.

The reason why Naughty Dog games and animation is leagues above likes of Mass Effect is because Naughty Dog only has to author a few hours of high-quality cut scenes or game play vignettes on top of the core gameplay to call it a game.

Open world games have thousands of hours of content that has to be authored an implemented into the game and much of the expensive tasks (like facial animation) that cannot scale infinitely are fully or partially automated in order to be feasible.

krypt19832630d ago

You people are pathetic you know how many lines of dialogue are in this game i guarantee 80 percent of you are ponies becuase your bitching about trivial shit, i forgot the way my character looks when he speaks drastically changes the gameplay, thats all you ponies talk about is graphics and i see why horzion was beautiful with a trash ass story but you guys love it, what are you going to do when scropio drops that 6.3 tf power and all your muti plats look like shit with the fake 4k ?

Exoil2630d ago

^ Someone just went full retard

andrewsquall2630d ago

@Pandamobile Lol this game does not look like it goes up against the best this gen like the series did last gen (and they had to work with the meh Unreal 3 engine back then).
THAT is the simple argument I am making here. Oh and Naughty Dog did a critically acclimated open world series called Jak and Daxter years ago that still has incredible cutscenes and characters. So lets nip that crap in the bud right now.

Pandamobile2630d ago

I'm assuming you don't have much of an idea about how game development works, do you Andrew?

Pintheshadows2630d ago

I am sorry Krypt, but Horizon has a very good story drawing on some high concept science fiction themes, In fact, I would say its story and combat are actually better than its visuals (which are varied and terrific).

Nathan_Hale532630d ago

@andrew

You have no idea what you are talking about. Frostbite is a fantastic engine first off, character models and facial animations are all up to the developer, then you say Unreal Engine 3 is meh? UE 3 and now 4, are fantastic, easy to develop for engines that can present great visuals, and were/are used in a large amount of games.

Bebedora2630d ago

What does the engine has to do with anything but incompetence?
They should be doing boardgames or scenarios for AD&D.

That second link made me laugh out loud. I have a feeling Il enjoy the game for all the wrong reasons if that's how the quality control is.

*wipes away a tear*

I hope the story is good. Sigh.

SoulWarrior2631d ago

Wtf, so the female ryder not only looks ugly as sin, she has a lazy eye, and her facial proportions look like she has been stung by a thousand bees.

andrewsquall2630d ago

No of course not, as Pandamobile said above its because the world is an open world (even though its not, its a semi open world with only contained areas). The world is going to be SO "interactive" as well, no doubt you will be able to kick over every pebble. Also even though her face looks like that, you will be able to literally put THOUSANDS of hours into THIS Mass Effect game as opposed to the 60 hours of all the previous games in the series.

So again, no its you who is crazy to think that the devs have no idea what they are doing when it comes to basic pre-2010 character development and commitment.

SoulWarrior2630d ago

Andrew, I never said the devs don't know what they are doing, but please tell me what looks normal about this? You just sound apologetic and are refusing to acknowledge the issues other outlets are reporting to reassure yourself.

NarooN2631d ago

Holy fuck @ the second one. It's horrible! Looks like some pre-alpha footage filmed right after they just got through testing to see if a cutscene would even function properly.

And the first one... Is Ryder meant to be getting fucked there? What even

zombiewombie2631d ago

Ryder is being......................... ............................... ....................ridden.

Oh snap. I'll show myself out.

phoenixwing2631d ago (Edited 2631d ago )

I was in defense mode until i watched those videos. The gameplay and skill trees are on point but the animation, story could use some work. Which is disappointing considering i play my rpg's to also get a good story. At the end of the second video they talk about how they're hoping the story picks up. I'll have to wait for reviews before plunking down cash for this.

Edit: Second complaint, Sudoku puzzles are lame for a game mechanic in mass effect.

Rachel_Alucard2631d ago

That big grin on her face during the second one just shows they had no idea what emotion to convey for her there. She flat out says her father is dead yet has this big dumb grin on her face the whole scene like some mental patient.

Mass Effect Companions, Ranked from Worst to Best

From Xfire: "BioWare's Mass Effect franchise took gamers on a fascinating universal sci-fi journey that will never be forgotten. While fighting against the ever-looming threat of the Reapers was central to Mass Effect's storyline, what made the series so iconic was its vast and diverse cast of characters.

Not only do these companions accompany Commander Shepard as you make your way through hell and back, but, throughout your journey, you also get to learn who these characters were and are and what they think about what it is that you are doing. Some will even fall in love with you, and others will even become your enemy based on your decision."

sourOG1111d ago

When I looked at the list I thought they were saying Garrus was the worst lol. And tali being so far down the list was fighting words for me. But the numbered list is just the order they are shown so you are forgiven.

CYALTR1110d ago

I think they listed them from worst to best. Also keep in mind that this includes Andromeda characters that aren't part of the remastered trilogy. Interesting refresh on the characters though.

sourOG1110d ago

They did but I didn’t realize it until I started reading. That’s just the order they are shown.

Knightofelemia1111d ago (Edited 1111d ago )

I couldn't stand Miranda I could never like her as a character and I always skipped Jacob and James. I always liked Grunt, Jack, Legion, Tali, Garrus, Samara, Liara, Wrex, Edi, Zaeed, Kasumi I always use these characters. Using Martin Sheen as the Illusive Man just fits the character like using Keith David as Admiral Anderson was another good choice always feels like Goliath from Gargoyles is yelling at you which I like.

Rebel_Scum1110d ago

Kinda weird having a question mark at the end of that sentence?

Garrus is best space bro.

Mass Effect: Andromeda in 2021

Zahi AR. from Link Cable Gaming writes “Welcome back Link Cable Gaming fans, with me in andromeda. Specifically, Mass Effect: Andromeda in 2021. With the recent announcement of Anthem shutting down its future plans, I wanted to look at another recent BioWare game. My switch to a PlayStation 5 destroyed my save file right while I was at the end. So, I decided to do a fresh start on the new console to see just how well (or not) it’s been since launch. How has the new generation of hardware treated the game that fell from grace? Should you play Mass Effect: Andromeda in 2021? Let’s find out.”

Such a good game! It got a 4K X1X upgrade and it looks fantastic! Also like the story! Was playing it again before Series X dropped. Going to download it for the Series X, as soon as I have more room on my HD. Playing too many other games right now.

Instant resume is AMAZING! I can Switch between 5 games in seconds. Like 10 to 15 at the most! No closing a game and opening another one! Thank you Microsoft!

giovonni1176d ago

It’s was decent to me. I didn’t feel the magic I felt when I played two or even three. I don’t know. It was repetitive, and the worlds felt bland.

jeromeface1176d ago

There's a reason it reviewed so poorly in the first place... these reasons among others.

anast1176d ago

I had a lot of fun with this game, but I haven't played 2 or 3 yet.

giovonni1175d ago

2 was wonderful, three was just as good as two the ending though 🤦🏾‍♂️

Wintersun6161175d ago

I finally gave it a go last autumn and was amazed by how bad a game can be. And believe me my expectations were low. After 10ish hours I just had to give up.

giovonni1175d ago

I powered through it, myself. It was just repetitive, and the Land Rover Exploration wasn’t interesting at all. The story also we mahhhhhhh.
