IGN Crowns The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as Game of the Show

Not surprised it win since they showed Zelda front and center pretty much the whole day focused on Zelda.
The Treehouse Zelda was live during late night here and I can hardly sleep LOL.
Sony stuff got so much stuff to show they only have at most 10 minutes for their new game demo.
Again I honestly do not like the look of This Link as much as Toon Link but they gave him so many cute animations it made up for his rather tomboy look.
My favorite is when he shivers when not wearing shirt in the cold area!

Breath of the wild is a corny title. I hope it's a working title they intend to change between now and next years release.

Zelda titles usually evoke mystery and curiosity.. what is the ocarina of time? Who is the twilight princess? Breath of the wild is just an obvious description of the experience they want for the player.

It needs to be changed to something more subtle and interesting

Skyward Sword had a few dark moments, especially the final battle. That innovation is seen in the refinement of the gameplay mechanics that have been implemented and this is just a small taste of the game. There's no way they're going to show off the best this game has to offer in a demo.

I love the Zelda series but I'm not sure I agree with this choice. I mean the gameplay for Horizon impressed me much more this year and both games are actually quite comparable. I'm all for keeping Nintendo relevant in this industry but don't you think they should achieve that themselves? In the end we are only voting with our wallets and that's not going to happen based on E3 awards.

The most creative thing I saw was Horizon. 1000 years after the fall of man and machines are the new 'rulers'. Thats an idea I can appreciate. Fantastic. And the gameplay seems creative too! My personal game of the show. Zelda seems fun but I really can't give it full marks with that character design and those bland textures.

I never even played one of those games but when I saw it during the MS Press Conference I thought..holy shi...this is like a big scipted cutscene with a bit super linear gameplay. I'm a Gears fan and there is no way in hell I would even use the word Creative to describe a game that is using the same core mechanics with very little innovation since the first game in 2006. I love Gears of War, Loved them all. I have tons of fun playing Co Op with my mates. But just like Halo and Halo fans Gears Fans don't want change so we get the same game with a different story everytime. All the gameplay showed me from E3 was it was a Gears of War game and thats ok. It's what I expected. But please don't say it was full of surprises and Creative.

God of war was the graphical impressive and a surprise announcement but there wasn't much substance of the game shown other than its 3 minute demo. Don't see how you can call it game of the show when there's nothing to really see but him walking through woods and fighting a first level monster for 30 seconds.

I don't know... It has untouchably better graphics... The game play is much more refined, the combat is tight, the story is clearly designed for adults and not little kids stick or middle aged men who failed to launch who are painfully stuck in the 80s... GOW was able to completely change the face of GOW and go from a teen violence sex simulator to... TLOU. That is fucking legend.

Zelda manages to make a bigger, much better Windwaker. And hey, that's super great!... But it's only so great.

I dunno. God of War, Battlefield One, and Zelda are easily my top three. I would give it to Zelda because of the sheer amount of features and content they showed, and it was still only a small portion of the game. They had over five hours of gameplay showing off the different systems and features and I'm still learning new things about the game. However most people would probably consider me biased towards Nintendo.

If I had to pick an Xbox game, it'd be sea of thieves or gears of war. The stage demo of sea of thieves wasn't the best, but the floor demo was well received.

If I had to pick a PS game, it'd be god of war or horizon.

Sony genuinely surprised me with 2 titles I wasn't expecting (DG and GoW), I already have Horizon pre-ordered...and I MIGHT be interested in Death Standing...we'll see. Zelda looked F'n Amazing, and from MS's show I was literally interested in every game except Tekken, but that's not a dig at the game...I just don't like fighting games. EA showed a few games I'm excited about and so did Ubisoft....all in all, a fantastic E3.

God of War turned me from someone that never cared for the series into someone that really wants to try the new one...that being said. IN NO WAY does it look like a better game than Zelda. Not to mention, while I am very excited about GoW...based on the very early demo (still time to grow of course) the game looks VERY linear and scripted...the amount of time the guy playing the demo actually DID anything was very small, in fact I'd say more than half of that demo was probably just scripted events playing out (come to think of it, Days Gone was the same way...both games have plenty of time to expand though...THANK GOD they changed the name for DG). Zelda was a far more impressive game this E3.

Watching it gave me the same feeling that I got from Far Cry Primal; there's base camps for tribes all over the place, and you're constantly going out hunting dangerous game.
The only real difference was the methods/weapons used for the task, though I'm sure that Horizon will have a much better story than Primal did just due to the era it takes place in, but I digress; Horizon really does feel like an advanced tech spin-off of Primal. It's got that same survivalist spirit, except with more voice acting that can actually be understood without subtitles.XD

Love the fact that the game starts, you wake up, you walk outside and the game basically says to you "Go figure it out". No long story. No stupid tasks that need to be done. Just simply go out and explore the damn world. It really takes a page out of the first NES title. Cannot wait.

I'm playing Bloodborne right now, and while that game is awesome, your comparison makes absolutely zero sense.

It's an artistic choice. If what you're saying is that you want Zelda to look realistic, no thank you. There's plenty of realistic looking games already. If anything, we need MORE cartoony games to balance things out, and Nintendo plays a big part on that.

Also, there's a pretty damn good chance this new Zelda will age much better than the games you mentioned. As a rule of thumb, realistic games just don't stand the test of time as well as stylized games.

Level 5's graphics are great because they're partnered up with Studio Ghibli, and that's the type of game they make. Zelda is at its best, in my opinion, when they go the route of games like OoT, MM, and TP. Darker, grittier Zelda games are awesome, and to see one come out with a BloodBorne/ Skyrim-esqe look would be amazing.

Without Nintendo, gaming would be diminished. Don't have one of their latest consoles, but NX with this game could be enough. I think it's a fair choice for best at E3

Zelda did look pretty incredible, and the amount of freedom in that game was really impressive. Pretty ironic that with all the talk of Vr, Neo, Scorpio, resolution, framerate, 4k this and that, etc. etc., that a game running on the underpowered, unloved Wii U is game of show.

Keep in mind the differences between Zelda and games like gears and God of war on the e3 show floor. God of war had no playable demo, it was just a theater to watch the developers play through the same demo we saw on stage.

Zelda had the largest booth dedicated to one game, more demo units than any other game in the show, and STILL has a line spanning over four hours to get through.

Once you made it, they had a theater presentation and two gameplay demos to play, over 40 minutes of content.

Best game I played at E3. Perhaps not the best game announced! But clearly the best on the conference floor. :)

Everything from Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess that made those games great.

Games like this are the reason we all fell in love with gaming from the start. The thrill of the adventure and the mystery that follows is the core of gaming.

Hands down this game will be the best Zelda of all time, Windwaker to me has that spot because it had that same feeling, not knowing what was next.

Idk why everyone is saying God of War. It had one of the shortest lines at E3. South Park, Mafia III, and Resident Evil all had much bigger lines. Even Civ VI seemed to be more popular.

It had the biggest lines for the Demo and for good reason, it is a marvel of a game and easily worth a console ownership. Nothing at E3 comes to close, good choice IGN

Nintendo has released some cool games but It kind of bothers me that they took so long to develop LoZ just to make it available on the NX. Kind of a disservice to gamers that supported the WiiU games have been hard to come by for that system and if it weren't for this game I might have already sold my WiiU.

It's a shame that Nintendo needs to rely on simple, cartoon graphics for their games, due to the extreme weakness of their hardware. The art style in the new Zelda game is a perfect example of that; it looks like a sequel to Wind Waker. This is why they need to just go software only, the hardware they produce is just unable to deliver competitive gaming experiences.

Wait...what??? Horizon and GoW both look like great games, but in a year with the quality games we've seen, I wouldn't even put Detroit in my top 100 Bargain bin buys. I wouldn't nominate GoW simply because all we saw was a very scripted demo...which had very little actual game play...it doesn't look like it will come out for a while. Horizon should be in the nomination, but in the long list of fantastic games coming out, I wouldn't say it deserves to be THE winner.
