Dead Rising 4 may be only coming to one console along with PC due to Capcom financial problems

_-EDMIX-_2922d ago

Agreed. As it stands it sounds like Capcom is doing this based on lack of funds they don't really have the money to make it multi-platform from day one so they're likely going to need either Sony or Microsoft to put up the funding in my personal opinion doesn't bode well for the company.

Lightning Mr Bubbles2922d ago (Edited 2921d ago )

They would be stupid not to bring it to PS4. But anyway, I hope they do something to innovate the franchise a bit because it's one of my favorites but it's starting to get a bit repetitive. The zombie comedy is one of my favorite themes and I think they can do a lot more with it.

Kingdomcome2472922d ago

This was the first game that I played for the Xbox One, and also my first time playing the series in general. It was pretty fun in short spurts, but I didn't care for it all that much. I've found that I definitely prefer a bit more of a mature tone when it comes to the zombie genre. I hope that it ends up being a multiplat, though, for those that are excited for the game, and that only game one platform.

XanderZane2922d ago

Dead Rising has never been fully exclusive. They eventually come out on other systems. I'm surprised Capcom hasn't gone bankrupt yet.

blakstarz2922d ago

But wouldn't that be more of an incentive to put out across all 3 platforms to recuperate any financial losses?

Fin_The_Human2921d ago

That would be ideal but unfortunately Capcom is in a bad financial state and can't afford to soly publish games...they will need that MS money to make DR4.

TheGreatGamer2922d ago

Given their issues they may just go for the Xbox/Windows 10 combo

barb_wire2922d ago

Why? DR3 wasn't exactly the blockbuster they thought it would be, given the supposedly large install base of PC & XB1. Still it sold better on the XB1 though with 2mil units, as for the PC, and on steam at least it sold 365k. Was DR3 available for the PC other than steam?

I think it would be foolish of Capcom to ignore the PS4 this go around, unless MS is paying for the development of DR4.

Tobsesan2922d ago

"I think it would be foolish of Capcom to ignore the PS4 "
They brought SFV to PS4 and noone cared. SO why would they care?
At the end it comes down to MS, if they want to pay the money its exclusive.

Concertoine2922d ago (Edited 2922d ago )

Just because the PS4 has more units doesn't necessarily guarantee more sales for a game like Dead Rising. The Xbone lacks a lot of Japanese support, and its line up is looking more sparse than the PS4's. That's when a game like Dead Rising shines.

The series also has more history on the Xbox, with 1 and 3 being sleeper hit exclusives and the Xbox version of 2 being the best selling version despite a lower install base. DR2 was also one of the first free GWG games - giving it the best exposure.

I just hope this one goes all out because DR3 was so obviously a 360 game at one point.

Kribwalker2922d ago

http://www.polygon.com/2014...

1 month over 1 million sales to a 3.2million install base. That's a solid launch. Now with 20 million out there they will sell more then sf5 did in its first 3 months

2922d ago
Kribwalker2922d ago

@bruce

I bought it at launch and I will buy it again. I loved that game a lot and will have no problem dropping money on it no matter if it's on my Xbox or ps4

I'm not too sure about that as Capcom is still a company and they still need money they're likely going to side with Sony.

YinYangGaming2922d ago (Edited 2922d ago )

SFV sided with Sony and look where that got them, it doesn't matter who they side with but I think they will side with some one

ScorpiusX2922d ago (Edited 2922d ago )

Why . please tell me you are not equaling install base to number of game units sold .

DemonChicken2922d ago

@ YinYang

Capcom deserved the negatively for SFV because of the lack in content and online server issues. They even admitted it needed more polish before release

http://www.gamespot.com/art...

"Tsujimoto explained that Capcom has learned over the past year that "it's best to spend a little more time in developing and running a high-quality title that will perform well globally," even if that takes longer.

He specifically cited Street Fighter V as an example of a game that could have benefited from staying in development longer

"Some aspects of Street Fighter V needed more polish, such as the lack of content and server issues at launch," he said. "Accordingly, we feel it's better to give a little more time to development than before, and have made slight adjustments to our portfolio.""

Fact is Capcom rushed the game out

_-EDMIX-_2922d ago (Edited 2922d ago )

@Yin- Siding with Sony isn't the reason why SFV sold poorly bud. Sony doesn't own Capcom, they didn't making SFV, they didn't publish SFV, they don't own the SF IP...

SFV sold poorly because of quality issues.

It matters greatly who the side with as they need not only the funding, but the install base to make more money. I think it would be a bad idea to side with MS considering the lessor install base. They would basically be selling less on top of not having funding...

@Scorp- so don't factor simple math? ...thats an easy ignore bud.

gangsta_red2922d ago

But Capcom had funding for Deadrising 3 by MS and it sold it great on Xbox One bud, soooooo I don't really understand your whole reasoning of your side with sony theory, lmao.

SmielmaN2921d ago

As a Sony/Nintendo gamer I can honestly say DR3 is he only XB1 game I really wish I could have played.

If they secure it as exclusive again I suppose kudos to them but I would appreciate a multiplatform release.

_-EDMIX-_2921d ago (Edited 2921d ago )

@G-Red- "But Capcom had funding for Deadrising 3 by MS and it sold it great on Xbox One bud, soooooo I don't really understand your whole reasoning of your side with sony theory, lmao"

People do not buy games based on who funds them, they buy games based on quality. Is it good? etc.

Dead Rising 3 actually sold less then Dead Rising 2, which only shows that something isn't connecting with Capcom's consumers. They are losing ground and folks are not returning to their series in historic numbers.

As you're own example shows Dead Rising selling less then its last entry...

SF sold less
Dead Rising sold less
DmC sold LESS
RE6 SOLD LESS

Sooooo what is that telling you about Capcom? Never mind who is funding, I don't buy games based on funding bud. I buy it based on whether or not its fun or not and SFV I can honestly say, had issues enough to warrant folks questioning this company.

I think its funny that in you're mind, selling "great" is 2 million for such a game, yet you are making it seem as if SFV selling 1.5 is this outrage lol

Last SF had a base install base of around 3 million. Last Dead Rising before 3 sold 3 million.

Neither SFV nor Dead Rising 3 sold better then their previous bud....

"I don't really understand your whole reasoning of your side with sony theory" You don't understand much bud, if Capcom is going to move low units of its series regardless of platform, they might as well do it with the company that has a higher install base to give them a fighting chance.

Kribwalker2921d ago

@edmix

The last street fighter sold 3million to an install base of 100+ million

Dead rising 2 sold to an install base of 100+million

Dead rising 3 sold over 1 million in a month to an install base of about 3.2 million.

That's not even a comparable situation

+ Show (5) more repliesLast reply 2921d ago
Lord_of_Cinder2922d ago

If they want to sell a lot they must consider the PS4 and not the xbox but It will depend on who will want to finance Capcom and giving how the last one performed, I doubt Sony is interested on it giving all the exclusives that are coming to PS4 already.

ScorpiusX2922d ago

Sweet bring it .Loved the screen full of Zombies effect DR3 had made the game much more intense .

-Foxtrot2922d ago

Did they get rid of the time limit in DR3? If so then that's all I wanted changed from the series.

Thisgengaming2922d ago

Yeah, it was made optional and called "Nightmare Mode"

opinionated2922d ago

That was what made it different IMO. Dead rising 1 is still my favorite. Doing everything within the time limit was stupid hard but fun.

Those survival achievements were practically impossible without bricking your 360 lol, that's the only thing I didn't like.

-Foxtrot2922d ago

Different dosen't mean good

It was presented as a sandbox but the time limit restricted you and ruined the fun

You want to do a main mission, explore, have fun, do a side mission, have more fun, explore, do a main mission etc well you can't because it made you choose.

What's the point of a fun sandbox game like this when you are heavily restricted in what you can do

SmielmaN2921d ago

I was a big dead rising fan and played them all but DR3, but I have to say I hated the time limit lol. Let me play and replay so I can get everything I want! Lol

opinionated2922d ago (Edited 2922d ago )

In dead rising's case it meant good. You have set amount of time before they carpet bomb your location.

The time limit is restrictive only if you wanted to do everything. Completionist mode. You can easily do a casual run and explore but that's not the point of the game.

Dead rising 3 took out the time limit and the intensity dropped 10 fold. It's not a GTA sandbox.

KiwiViper852922d ago

Well, im a completionist. Always

Sony Says The PS5 Is Its “Most Profitable Generation To-Date"

During Sony’s recent business segment meeting and investor presentation regarding its game and network services, the PlayStation company revealed that PlayStation 5 is the company’s “most profitable generation to-date.”

It’s the top slide of the presentation, showing that in its first four years, the PS5 generation has already hit $106 billion in sales, having almost caught up to the PS4’s total $107 billion generated.

Operating income for the PS5 generation has also already surpassed that of the PS4, having now reached $10 billion.

ApocalypseShadow1d 23h ago (Edited 1d 23h ago )

I wouldn't doubt it. They released a high quality system. A lot of high quality games from themselves and their support of 3rd party developers and indies. They released many high quality remakes and remasters. They released a high quality GaaS game going against the naysayers thinking Sony would abandon single player games. And they most likely are profiting a lot more than PS1, PS2 PS4 and the loss leading PS3 that drained all their profits.

Now, I'll wait to see what's cooking tomorrow. But can you use some of those profits to better support your high quality VR headset? Because, by supporting it, you can sell more games and more systems and make more profits?

jznrpg1d 22h ago (Edited 1d 22h ago )

I want RPGs for PSVR2! Good ones of course

shinoff21831d 21h ago

If it had some rpgs I would buy right fking now. It looks dope and alot of fun, but it's biggest game resident evil 4(maybe) I've got no interest in. I'm not a fan of racing games, even with that metro game coming i was never much into that series. Rpgs would be fantastic.

MrNinosan1d 19h ago

Lemme know if ya wanna play some Zenith 🙌
Bought it at release, but haven't played it more than 1-2 hours but for sure on my "todo list".

Cacabunga1d 18h ago

Normal when they released mostly cross gen games so far. That’s a lot of money saved..
We haven’t seen what PS5 can do yet. 4years in and PS4 games still look great to me. The gen leap isn’t quite there yet.

--Onilink--1d 20h ago

The interesting metric for me is the $106billion in operating income/profit (not sales as mentioned in the article) reaching the same as the PS4 did with only half the consoles sold.

In particular because they all are supposed to be making the most per hardware sold after a few years when manufacturing costs are down.

So even putting inflation aside(and the higher console price), it is interesting that they could reach PS4 $ with just half the consoles sold.

Maybe there is more to the metric thats whats seen at face value, but they have clearly been making a lot more money than before on the software side (with also less games released I suppose, given its only been half the generation so far)

VersusDMC1d 20h ago

The bulk of the money has to be coming from the 30% cut on all games and microtransactions. Especially on all the free to play juggernauts like genshin, apex, fortnight, etc.

--Onilink--1d 17h ago (Edited 1d 17h ago )

@Versus

They are definitely making a lot on that for sure (which the $70 price increase factors into as well), but its not like many of those games werent around for the PS4 too.

They might be counting the gen as a whole and not just PS5 itself (so extra profit from PC sales, whatever that may be)

PS+ price increase and different tiers probably amount to part of that too.

But in general, its still quite a surprising metric. Half the time, half the consoles sold, less first party games released so far and still already making more of a profit than last gen is quite something, and as mentioned, there is probably more to it that we dont know, after all, since we are talking about operating income, all the expenses they have also factor into it, so it is also possible that they have found ways to significantly reduce that + all the means of increased revenue that appear to be factoring into the equation

All in all, just an interesting situation from a business perspective

porkChop1d 16h ago

It's for the whole generation, so it would likely be including PC. They also make much more profit on digital sales vs retail, and digital is far more prominent these days. The generation also started at the height of COVID when everyone was home, spending far more money on gaming/hobbies. It makes a lot of sense for this gen to be more profitable.

This will surely shut up all the new trolling accounts trying to spread lies and non facts in other articles comment sections before this article is posted.

Hofstaderman1d 20h ago (Edited 1d 20h ago )

Obscurely, those trolls or troll will not show in these articles as the truth is contradictory to his or their orchard-sized daily dose of copium and hopium.

Tacoboto1d 20h ago

Or... They're intentionally trolling you guys specifically. Because they know it upsets you so easily.

Name-dropping Orchard, after this many months? How long has it been and he's still in your thoughts?

Elda1d 20h ago (Edited 1d 20h ago )

I'm quite sure the individual is reading these positive comments downvoting & seething at the same time. Edit: It just downvoted my comment...lol!!

Hofstaderman1d 19h ago

No I'm entertained by this individual. I love unhinged people, they are so interesting lol.

repsahj1d 21h ago

Wow! I am super impressed that in just 4 years, ps5 already caught up to the PS4's. Congratulations.

JackBNimble1d 2h ago

That happens when half of your games are cross platform. I'm still waiting to see what the ps5 is capable of, because they sure haven't pushed any limits.

And where are all these ps5 exclusive games?

sagapo1d 20h ago

Not really surprised as Sony barely has any competition at the moment.
