I was expecting to find some cool, never--heard-of-but-2-mostly-p ositive-user-reviews kind of indie gem, not huge games that have had plenty of attention, that everyone has already heard of and most have already played games.

Wait until you get your hands on other games, even off steam. I've heard Mario is quite fun...
