Yakuza Kiwami PS4 vs Yakuza PS2 Screenshot Comparison: This is How Remakes Should be (Re)Made

Howe many times have you seen people commenting on remakes, remasters or even new games and saying “it looks like a PS2 game?” Most of the times, those memories of the PS2 are painted by the rose-tinted glass of nostalgia, and those games don’t look like PS2 titles at all.

A few days ago, Sega released Yakuza Kiwami, which is indeed the remake of a PS2 game, Yakuza. The first, glorious game of the series was already remastered in high definition as part of a compilation with Yakuza 2 for Wii U and PS3, but now you’re looking at something completely different.

PS2 version still looks Great, Yakuza Kiwami PS4 still looks like it runs on PS3 engine and use little of PS4 full power. Hope SEGA upgrade their game engine.

I don't know why I keep looking. I want the game but there aren't any subtitles and Sega have said nothing on whether it is being localised for the West.

Thank you WallStreet. Yes, I know people love to move forward as do I, but I believe there is something to be said about remaking classics that we loved and were well made and successful and FUN back then.

Whats better than bringing all that back with even more flare with today's technology to allow an entirely new generation to enjoy what so many others did in the past, not to mention bringing all of the original fans back into the fold? I've always known of this series but never played since I've never owned a Sony console.

Never played a Yakuza game but this looks impressive for a remake.

When comparing those images it's hard to believe that there was a time when PS2 graphics blew my mind. Goes to show how far graphics have come in video games.

My guess would be because MCC was broken on release. That's not the point though, kinda obvious Tobs was referring to what MCC was doing as a whole, not the state of online or bugs or such.

Maybe because Halo Mcc had tons of performance issues and for more than a year online was utter trash and unplayable for many. Its sad they just recently fixed the online issue in MCC. That game should in no form or fashion be put up on a pedastal lol

That's your take. I'm not huge online player so I enjoyed a full 5 different remastered and hd versions of past games all for 40$ along with couch co op.

So yes. Up on a pedestal for me.

Looks like someone never played it. I had it day 1 and played it online for a few months. The only problem was the long waiting times in the lobby. It worked and we could play over 100 mp maps + 4 campaigns which got upscaled and better performance + a complete remake of halo 2 + Halo 5 Beta + a TV series. They fixed it in Feb or march i think and we got halo odst and 1 month xbox live for free. What else so you want? Uncharted collection gives you 3 sp games with upscaled graphics - the mp. Dont come at me that this can compete with the mcc.

I've always felt a remake is different from a remaster. a remaster I always saw as upping the pixle count and frame rate (think uncharted). while a remake would be more a "from the ground up" approach (think resident evil).

I'm impressed at how well the PS2 version still looks. Obviously the PS4 version looks great, but the PS2 version still looks very playable today.

How hard would it be to put in English subtitles and release it over here digitally ? surely the costs would be humble ? I prefer subtitles to english voice acting....by a distance.
