5/5 except for the fact that you completely void your warranty with Microsoft. And for those who don't know how to ground themselves, possibility of completely frying the circuit-board of the 360 with static.

Warranty I agree with, static I wouldn't concern yourself with, I've built many PC's, played with main console internals and never suffered an issues. Admittedly caution should be taken but as long as you dont go poking things you shouldn't you'll be fine.

Or if your really worried touch something earthed, ie, a PC case.

You won't fry the board with static. Resistors alone would impede a static discharge. Although yes you could do some damage. Nobody should mess with any exposed electronics without a static wrist strap. And if people don't know that simple solution to ESD then they have no idea what they are doing.

every stinking one of you has purchased their 360's within the 3 year period. The 360 isn't 3 years old yet, so all of us have the warranty so this kit is useless to any of us unless we bought our 360's second hand. Food for thought. After the 3 years, this will be a brilliant idea to look into this mod.

unless you modded your system like MANY people have, but just don't want to announce it. Then this fix is a great way to not lose your investment just because M$ makes crappy hardware.

Oh, and lets not pretend that sending your XBOX away for 4 weeks (best case?)to incompetent M$ people is a good way to spend your time.

Where the 360 had RROD which was big enough proof for anyone that the 360 does have problems isnt good enough proof? The 360 does have an awesome library of games, but im not going to sit here and say the machine is an amazing art of work because in reality I still worry that it could die on me anytime. Had it RROD on me once already and let me tell u, sitting and waiting for your system to be repaired aint fun, luckilly I have a wii and a ps3 also incase of something like this ever to happen again.

Might not be a bad idea since warranties on the launch 360s end in the next couple of months.

However, if it were as simple as putting rubber pads on the board, why has MS not done it?

why would someone risk voiding their warranty without knowing for sure if this works. How does anyone know this really works? MS hasn't ever really confirmed what is the cause of RROD. If this worked, MS would just put it in ever 360 sold. I hope members here aren't gullible enough to give their money away and risk costing themselves even more later.

What if you have an original 360, nearing the end of its warranty? Or cant find your receipt or proof of purchase from years ago, MS wont honour your Warranty? What about Modded consoles? What about people who just like to fiddle?

There's lot's of reasons/people who might be interested in this.

Obviously if you have a standard 360 in warranty your best bet it to just return it.

@Solid_Snake: well lets start with the basic...you don't have to void the warranty ;)
It works like I mentioned before just in part you need to do additional stuff to help, EVERYONE that has worked with a RROD knows what causes it and for obvious reason MS cant say it publicly (just to give you a rough idea a few months after the first 360s RROD people already knew the cause or had a rough idea)

and finally if you know about building PCs and how the hardware works you shouldn't really care about the warranty since you can pretty much fix the RROD in your house in around 15 minutes (in more or less the same way MS does it but with out the extra stuff you can do to help prevent it in the future)

I took the risk and voided my warranty a while ago because I didn't like the original case that much and got a much better looking one. I also decided to replace the original fans and put a few more in also to keep it running cool and some lighting effects. My system looks better and hardly even kicks out warm air during heavy use so there are definite benefits to voiding warranty.

Fixes like this one have been around for a while now and work as good if not better than the M$ refurb fix usually.

people think about it, the country that Microsoft don't have official representation or SAT's, like Peru, Argentina, even her in Colombia we have official representation but if we send a xbox 360 for warranty we have to wait one and even two months for the new console.

This kit is great because it no only fix the RROD problem, it also prevent it. Nobody have to wait a official report from Microsoft telling us which are the causes for RROD, the problem it's simple, overheating, the CPU and GPU chips separates from the mainboard.

This by itself will not fix it, depending on the quality of the "stuff" you use in the X-clamps it might only extend the life you also need to take care of cooling for a more effective solution :)

I remember when I had open up and calibrate the laser in my Playstation 1 in order to make it work. This was after the turn-it-upside-down trick stopped working =)

The X-clamp method sounds easier.

I have had RROD once, but used my warranty to get it fixed. If it should happen again(in 3 years from now when I have no warranty) it's good to know there's an alternative to just throwing it away.

I used this trick on an old out of warranty 360 and it worked for me but i had all the tools etc. If your system is in warranty just send it in its not worth the risk because if you f'up M$ will not fix it. Who knows maybe you'll get a new system with the new stable chipset.

Than just X-Clamps to fix the RRoDs completely. If Xecuter can provide an alternate cooling solution, then that would truly cure the RRoDs.

Well for anyone that is wondering this is really more like "part 1" or "step 1" in the "fixing" of the RROD, you need to do at least 3-4 other things to even get close calling it a "anti RROD 360"

and remember not all mods for the 360 related to the RROD require you to open the console...and still you can open it and not void the warranty ;)

What about my Xbox 360 warranty?
Microsoft has recently offered an extended 3 year warranty against the RROD, so if you don't want to open your console yourself and void the warranty please feel free to contact Microsoft and wait up to a month to get a replacement console.

Easiest way to get a perma solution to this problem is just buy a PS3. 100% RRoD free since 2006!

If I understand this repair correctly you remove the thermal pads from the memory chips that tranfers heat to the metal case. This is not a good idea because the memory chips would then run hot!

something similar to this, but it was called "x-clamp-fix" and it involved removing the xclamp and just using washers and different screws. Worked well, but had to do the towel thing one time shortly after, but it hasn't happened again since.

Actually, that is what happens. The solder on the GPU breaks because of the board bending from the x-clamps, when it is left on for 20 minutes it heats up the GPU enough to let the solder reconnect the GPU to the board
