Tomonobu Itagaki Mehs Okami, Respects Kutaragi

Yesterday Kotaku posted an interview of Hideki Kamiya from the latest issue of EGM were the Devil May Cry creator didn't exactly have kind words for Ninja Gaiden. They weren't mean per se, they just weren't kind. Kamiya said he's "not interested" in NG so perhaps you could say he is indifferent. In the same issue of EGM, former Team Ninja lead ninja Tomonobu Itagaki has this to say about Kamiya and his game Okami:

I like this guy and always have. This guy can do no wrong in my eyes. I too feel Okami was nothing at all like the critics and gamers said it was. It had nothing special to it at all.

I kinda agree about Okami. I admire Okami for the graphics and everything else it did new, but the game was boring and easy. If it had a better story, more techniques, and it was a little harder, then I probably would've liked it.

i been playing GOD 1 and 2 to see why all the hype and didn't like it that much. i mean, i could beat that freaking game pressing just the square botton! it has a lot of gore, nudity, pretty good story if you're into that but nothing more. in my book GOD is crap. just because you can press some button sequences to make some cool move that totally destroy your opponent doesn't make the best action games ever but it sure could make it a hit. everybody wants easy sh1t. what's more easy then pressing what pops out in the screen...

and as much as i like DMC series i have to admit that neither of them are better than Ninja Gaiden. NG it's on another level, it's like the ultimate action game. and NGS it's pure epicness. you're in control of everything Ryu does. to do a combo you need more than just pressing square button. if you want to do cool things you need skill. the style it is so cool and the presentation it's so intense like in DMC! but GOD...

if you think GOD it's best than NG then you know nothing about action games. plain and simple. on top of that bad taste.

i dont have time for games like ng. i never really liked games where u had to master combos. GoW and dmc appeal to allot more people because they are simple. and nothing is more bad ass then being a demon that slays demons. or the God of War.

Don't you mean GoW? Well it has a very interesting story, great gameplay (yes, button sequences are much better than a Ninja being murdered by machine guns and rockets flying everywhere). NGS was good. It was my first game when I bought my PS3. But it was really lacking. A game coming from Japanese devs should have a story, and neither NGS nor NG2 have a story to tell.

GoW all the way for me. And I won't be playing NG2 anytime soon even if I get myself a 360, or if it ever gets ported to the PS3.

Ninja Gaiden was created by a drunk who does nothing but take unwarranted pictures of women and forces them into doing sexual activities. Tomonobu Itagaki is a rapist piece of scum and Dark Sniper is the first to say that he would prefer his games to stay on Xbox 360.

With the bad camera angles, poor controls and below generic storyline that Ninja Gaiden 2 has. It's no surprise to Dark Sniper that Itagaki must have been drunk when he made this game.

And based on his comment about his preference to the 360, he basically just prefers the 360 just because it's easier to develop for... but I don't see how he could respect Kutaragi and not support the PS3 at all. He probably hasn't even given the PS3 a chance when it comes to development... he's just another Gabe Newell to me.

I think that Itagaki needs to wake up and realize that as a Japanese developer, his games could be WAY bigger and be much more successful if he developed them on the PS3 too because Japanese gamers love games developed by a Japanese developer and the majority of Japanese gamers have PS3's. Metal Gear Solid 4 sold over 400,000 units in Japan the first week and if Ninja Gaiden 2 was on the PS3, it would have had a successful launch in Japan as well.

Kojima is the type of Japanese guy that I could relate to, but not Itagaki, and Sony Santa Monica will put Ninja Gaiden 2 to shame with God of War 3.

He's actually pretty smart. The only reason he is recognizable is because he is outspoken. I mean his credits sure don't add up to someone with his reputation.

He created a below average fighter in DOA and a 3D update to the great Ninja Gaiden series. He did a good job of capturing the feel of the games in 3D but the originals were still much better. I also find it pretty sad that a 20 year old game is more cinematic than its next gen console "upgrades". So what else has he done besides that? No real innovations, just a lot of talk. Kamiya on the other hand has a godly resume of creating critically acclaimed and innovative series including Okami, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, and Resident Evil.

I meh'd Bioshock too. After playing System Shock 2 in so many different ways, Bioshock was quite meh. It was graphically upgraded, but gameplay and variety wise the game was quite stripped down from it predecessor. I hope for more from Bioshock 2.

NG2 on the other hand was an improvement over every aspect of NG1, only NG2 came with a few more technical problems(camera isnt a prob for me).

I took a break from trying master ninja and went back to my completed warrior file with all weapon maxed out. I guarantee you that the combat in this game, with all the weapons, is light years ahead of any other action game out there today.

If NG2: sigma ever comes out I think even the ps3 fanboys will see what im talking about. The game is the most brutal and satisfying combat that has ever graced a video game.

I agreed with you because if someone makes a better ninja game, Ill buy it. I dont think its possible because of the weapons in ng2.
