Phil Spencer hinting towards New JRPG for the Xbox One?

Phil Spencer took to twitter to slightly confirm the rumors regarding new JRPG's coming to the Xbox One. One fan asked him if there was any credence to the rumors of a new Sakaguchi RPG, and his reply was "Tuesday". Could we see a new Blue Dragon or Lost Odyssey game coming to the Xbox One? Let's see.

megazero123760d ago (Edited 3760d ago )

a new Sakaguchi RPG would just be amazing!

LO2 and i will cry.

ritsuka6663760d ago

Lost Odyssey 2 or something similar and i would probably buy an Xbone.

vishmarx3760d ago (Edited 3760d ago )

BE LO2 and I WILL actually buy an xbox.
this + Quantum Break
enough to certify a crazy idiot purchase!!!
$500 down the crapper if true

gawwdddang sony where the jrpgs at?
all that launch had were girls ,and wierd girls

EDIT:that almost confirms sakaguchi is making sumthn for xb1 WTH
im super happy and royally pissed at the same time

Letthewookiewin3760d ago

If the X1 comes out with some fantastic JRPGs that I can only have on that system I will buy an X1 and by then I can almost guarantee it will be cheaper. I win.

nealane3759d ago

I'm so glad i brought both consoles i really liked lost odessy and would love to see a sequel at the moment ps4 is my system of choice and thers nothing to play on xb1 now that tf but if LO2 is announced then it will go nicely with gears of war titan fall, halo 5 and quantum break

FamilyGuy3759d ago

By the time it's released the X1 will probably have had a price drop too.

I highly doubt it'll be LO2 though, most likely a new IP.

if it is I will buy the xbox one...I love Lost Odyssey

one of the main reasons I bought a xbox 360 for plus Gears and Halo lol

why the disagree?

combatcash3760d ago

I have been waiting for LO2 for a lifetime lol, would definitely pick up and xbox one for that game.

Magicite3760d ago (Edited 3760d ago )

Wow and exclusive JRPG for X1? Thats something!
X360 had like 2?

That would be a nice addition, but definitely not a console seller, since MS consoles were always aimed for FPS genre.

Hicken3760d ago

No, there were quite a few for 360. The two big ones were Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon... and Tales of Vesperia, though it was not an exclusive in Japan. ATLUS made quite a few smaller titles for the console, though.

Still, I'd definitely have to reconsider if this turned out to be Lost Odyssey 2.

hkgamer3760d ago

not a console seller, but im sure mistwalker or sakaguchi fans wil buy a console just for those games.

i would buy a xbone just for that and im not even that big of a fan

off topic, is mistwalker still around?

DiRtY3760d ago

There were some exclusive JRPGs for the 360

Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Tales of Vesperia (outside Japan), Infinite Undiscovery, The Last Remnant, Star Ocean (1 year exlcusivity), Magna Carta II and maybe some others as well.

LexHazard793760d ago

@hicken

You must really like Lost Odyssey if it would make you consider an XB1 purchase. Lost Odyssey did make quite an impression and a lasting one at that with gamers! Lets hope Blue Dragon gets some love too.

HystericalGamez3760d ago

This is HUGE. If Lost Odyssey 2 is announced as an Xbox One Exclusive, that'll be one of the first Hard hits for the PS4 coming from Microsoft. That would DEFINITELY be a Console Seller.

gameon19853760d ago

"If Lost Odyssey 2 is announced as an Xbox One Exclusive" There isn't a question about it being exclusive seeing how Microsoft owns the ip. The question is will it be announced.

HystericalGamez3760d ago

Microsoft could benefit slightly from releasing it as a Multiplat, much like how Square is releasing KHIII and FFXV on the Xbox One, and how NBG released Tales of Vesperia for the 360.

Different circumstances, but yeah. This is still REALLY great for the Xbox.

BABYLEG3760d ago

^^^is this guy serious?

hkgamer3760d ago

@ hysterical
you trolling?

majiebeast3760d ago (Edited 3760d ago )

Lol the game didnt even hit a million sold and barely 100k in Japan, what a hard hit against PS4... It has a cult following just like Bayonetta and Platinum Games in general. FFXV or KH3 exclusive would be a hit this is barely a poke.

@Megaton

The delusion is hitting hard on GAF, im still laughing at the guy who called Kojima a lazy developer and that he is a Sony fanboy.

Megaton3760d ago

I know, right? Guy jokes on Twitter in a response to NeoGAF's most delusional Xbox fan. Xboners rally around it as a confirmation that Lost Odyssey 2 is not only coming, but that the relatively unknown and poor-selling franchise will turn it all around for Microsoft and crush the PS4. Desperate times indeed.

vishmarx3760d ago

new ip vs 20yr old IP?
thats fair i suppose

HystericalGamez3760d ago

The game has a very dedicated fanbase. That gets people talking and Generates buss for the game. Ontop of that, Microsoft needs something like this. It isn't about it selling well in Japan, it also needs to sell well in the US and EU territories. Xbox one has no chance to win over the Japanese region, but they need to do all that they can to atleast appeal to fans with games where Resolution won't matter.

Its a JRPG, i'm sure people won't be heartbroken if the game is 900p and 60FPS. It'll still be one of the most Beautiful Games of its Genre when it launches.

Until FFXV launches on PS4.

Aces173760d ago

Do you think JRPG don't appeal to people outside of Japan? There are more reasons for this other than just Japanese fans.

-Foxtrot3760d ago

If it IS Lost Odyssey 2...then despite being an amazing announcement since I loved the first game it does make me ask just one question

Why the hell did the guy want to develop for the Xbox again when JRPGs do poorley on that console. LO didn't deserve that at all

LexHazard793759d ago

@Foxtrot,

Dude does it really matter what dev wants to work on Xbox? It could be Sakaguchi and MS have great relationship. MS helped fund Mistwalker, and who doesnt want to make money?! Whatever it is Xbox gamers should be happy for some JRPG love on XB1.

LexHazard793760d ago

Lol.....bwahhhahahahha! I would sure hope so! They own it!

gameon19853760d ago

Yesterday I think it was, he said something about he like what there first party studios in japan are doing. STUDIOS plural, exactly how many studios do they have in japan? I know Phil said from his own mouth that Oska studios I think it was wasn't real, but that could be taking the same way he said gears has ran its course. We all seen how that turned out.

majiebeast3760d ago

0 its probably second party. Osaka studio doesnt exist.

gameon19853760d ago

He said first party not second, but seeing how it's no secret you are a Sony fan boy Why in the hell are you responding to my question about Microsoft any ways? Nothing you say about Microsoft will ever be taking seriously.

majiebeast3760d ago (Edited 3760d ago )

Wow so mad, did i put your panties in a twist little girl? Dont cry im sure the xbone will sell 2 consoles in Japan.

LexHazard793759d ago

You PS fanboys suck _ _ _ _! An Xbox One article and Xbox gamers cant even comment without a hard time from you fucks. Comment after comment with more disagrees than likes. Obviously you guys are out in full force when anything good comes MS way! You have the most powerful console yet you spend more time trolling than playing actual games! Smh....

rainslacker3759d ago (Edited 3759d ago )

Here's a list of all MS production studios. It also list 2nd party partners, such as Mistwalker. It is a listing of all studios around the world.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

So in answer to your question, MS has 0 first party studios in Japan. Phil could have been talking about a contracted company in Japan making an Xbox game, possibly the Osaka studios, or he could have been talking about one of it's 2nd party partners, or he could have been blowing smoke.

I know it sucks hearing an answer from a PS fan, such as myself, but it is what it is. Please don't jump down my throat because you don't like the answer.

Edit: If you wish to discuss further, the only 2nd party on that list based on Osaka, Japan is Access Games, which apparently do have a X1 game in developerment, D4. They're known to make some pretty decent games.

jdktech20103760d ago

Holy....I think the first Lost Odyssey was one of the best games of last generation. I would love to see a Lost Odyssey 2.

Going to be refreshing a lot on Tuesday.

Xbox No Longer Has Its Head In The Game

Microsoft & Xbox have shut down Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks to lay off more workers, insinuating that they're not in the game anymore.

XiNatsuDragnel28d ago

They're headless for a long time because closing tango isn't exactly a good move

PapaBop28d ago

Ever since that cringe Kinect reveal they've never been the same. They used to make some amazing games and do great deals with third parties Early on in the 360 era they had games like Chromehounds and Shadowrun, both well ahead of their time. Now instead of nurturing their studios, they'd rather gaslight gamers and throw billions on pre existing studios. Not sure how Spencer is still in a job, I wouldn't trust him to organise a piss-up in a brewery.

Father__Merrin28d ago

We've said all along Spencer needs to go. I wish xbox went back to xbox only with new gears fable forza halo releases lots of third party releases

Those early rainbow 6 Vegas days and phantasy star universe are gone forever

S2Killinit27d ago

MS has its head in the game but the game they are playing is something different from what console gamers expect from a platform. MS’s end game has always been to use the xbox as a trojan horse.

XiNatsuDragnel27d ago

Lol that's funny well this plan they have isn't working homie

Acquisitions always come with cuts

1Victor28d ago

“Acquisitions always come with cuts”

343 trillion points shield activated
343 trillion percent damage negate activated
All damage reduced to 1 for 343 trillion turns.
MICROSOFT DEFENSE FORCE IS A GO

Tacoboto28d ago

Especially for Microsoft, when Booty pretty much said they didn't know how to handle that many studios.

Why even make the acquisition then.

-Foxtrot28d ago

Didn’t they make the swipe for Bethesda when Sony wanted like 6 months exclusiveness for Starfield

It’s like…chill, you got Rise of the Tomb Raider for a year.

romulus2328d ago

Do they always come with senseless cuts becasue that's exactly what cutting Tango was, senseless.

H928d ago

Everyone's acting now that game companies care about games and Xbox is committing the Ultimate betrayal, they are all like this and you have just been quiet about it for far too long

Nuclearmoon28d ago

I wonder if Microsoft do pull out of the console market that it might open the door for valve to relaunch the Steambox. Competition is good for the industry but Microsoft don't even seem to be trying anymore.

UltimateOwnage28d ago

Steam / Valve are one of the few truly pro-consumer bright spots in gaming right now. Thankfully.

Jingsing27d ago

From all the money Valve make from Steam they reinvest almost 0 into creating new AAA titles for the PC platform, Absolutely no giving nothing back in that regard. Wake up.

jwillj2k428d ago (Edited 28d ago )

“Your game has won some pretty significant awards and is a show piece for where we want to go in the future.”

1 hour later.

“We’re gonna have to let you go. You can’t cover our 100 billion dollar acquisition. Oh and take your awards too 👍🏾”

Fallout 76 Players Have Nuked Phil Spencer in Response to Studio Closures

Fallout 76 players have dropped the big one on Phil Spencer in response to Xbox's closures of Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks this week.

Meet The Guy Who Just Nuked Xbox Boss Phil Spencer In Fallout 76

He said he treated the Xbox executive like the RPG's final boss

Jingsing30d ago

Somewhat fitting, Considering buying Bethesda was a complete selfish purchasing decision by himself just because he is a big Fallout fan he wanted to own the toy. Well quite frankly Microsoft should look at that and say you put your personal tastes in front of the business and it has backfired.

anast29d ago

Todd Howard out hustled Phil. Howard is definitely in the top 3 all time hustlers in video game history.

OtterX29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

Phil's game character properly looks like a villain too.
