The official trailer is out for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky DX10. The graphics is really worth a look. German site PCGH.de has in addition some DX10 screenshots as well.

9600 GT $199.99 in best buy .. but well, my references are in euros - the 8800 GT price in Europe is 150 - 200 euros .

The recomended graphic card for DX 10 , nearly in maximun or in maximun quality , is the 8800 GT - source, a video preview in a russian magazine - . The 9600 GT is a bit worse , and the 8800 GTS - new version - and 9800 GTX are better . But the launch of new generation of Nvidia and ATI will be in Summer - June , July , August...

Some great deals pop up from time to time, such as this 8800 GTS 512 which includes The Witcher ( http://www.newegg.com/Produ... ) for $194.

If you wait until summer, which is when the next-generation graphics cards are rumored to be releasing from ATI (and possibly NVIDIA), then prices should be even lower.

I dare to say STALKER actually had better lighting effects than Crysis, the effect of using the flashlight in heavy particle scenarios were unmatched and ULTRA realistic

You know if you go to the Youtube video itself and click on the TV to the right of the number of views it got, you can select the HD version of this video which is MUCH more High-res then the low Youtube quality.

And if the video doesn't have the TV button, add &fmt=18 or &fmt=6 to the end of the URL.

Example:

&fmt=18 has a bitrate of around 512 and gives stereo audio, as opposed to regular mono audio.
&fmt=6 gives a bitrate of around 900, but has mono audio. (Most YouTube videos don't support this format.)
Regular YouTube quality has a bitrate of around 200 and has mono audio.

what turned you off the first game? cos i had a blast with the first stalker, it was miles better than other fps, actually it has spoiled me from other games, cos it's the fps where the dev leaves you to figure things out on your own rather than holding your hand through the experience, the freeform sandbox style is very addictive and immersive and now it's harder for me to enjoy games where i can't have that freedom, seriously the chunk of the fps industry is just full of dumbed down regurgitated rehashes with stupid AI and corridor linearity, only a few games stand out, stalker is definitely one of them

Remember to patch it and get some mods cuz some like the repair one are almost obligatory :D

Don't be tempted by the mods that offer "improved armor" and stuff cuz they literally ruin the game and in some cases could ruin your saved game

For que quality graphics it output the engine is pretty forgiving

Those dynamic smoke effects are AMAZING and are completely unseen and unheard of in ANY game yet seen or known.

The dynamic volumetric smoke is absolutely astounding....brilliant.

Everything else...

Just fancier lighting (god rays) and better textures.

Please, also you must know that the DX 9 S.T.A.L.K.E.R. engine already has the ability to render real-time global illumination.

Any GI effects you see in the DX 10 version aren't new.

I HATE that F*CKING head bob. Made me want to barf and it gave me headaches.

I see the detailed textures and i think to myself that it's good that some games stay pc exclusive, not all though, some developers need the extra bucks, or at least they can make a seperate console adaption port that appeals to the demographic like battlefield bad company, but devs shouldn't have to sacrifice things on pc versions just for the sake of keeping things even with consoles, games like ut3/cod4 could've had way higher rez textures, it's not that the console version will be bad or anything but the hardware limitation particularly RAM will sometimes degrade things a little or change gameplay mechanics,

I'm not slamming anybody's console or anything cos I love console exclusives just as much, I don't know maybe I'm a texture whore but games like stalker and crysis have spoiled me in the ultra detailed texture department, I just hope far cry 2 doesn't get any compromise cos cod4 was a disappointment texture wise and could've looked a whole lot better on max settings, it's like a curse, i saw the amazing killzone 2 footage the other day and couldn't get my eyes off the extremely low rez wall and floor textures

this biggest thing when it comes to the graphics is the amount of detail that goes into everything they do, and the amount of dynamic items.

for me this does much more then crysis.
For example, the water effects everywhere are just amazing, water streaming down walls, water-droplets that look real when hitting wet ground and the smoke looks fantastic.

not to mention, when you click on the link and look at some of the screenshots, the textures on the trees are breathtaking.

however, on that not, the game itself looks eerily similar to the source engine, makes me drool a little.
