EA Will be Charging More for Next Gen Titles Comparing to Other Companies

Product-reviews writes:

We told you not too long ago that both Sony and Microsoft had officially priced their respective PS4 and Xbox One games at $60, the same retail price as current software titles for the PS3 and Xbox One. At the time, doubts started to appear after first-party, not third-party games were only mentioned frequently. Now we know the real reason for this, as EA has now confirmed their PS4 and Xbox One prices and it looks like you are going to have to pay more for their games.

jimbobwahey3976d ago

It's a shame because I was looking forward to Need For Speed Rivals, but if EA are going to be greedy scumbags then they won't see a penny from me.

They've also killed any chances of checking out Battlefield 4 as well, now my eyes are on Killzone and Call of Duty instead :)

steve30x3976d ago

EA has been greedy with years.

abzdine3976d ago

so this is why they cancelled the online pass? for people buying new to still pay extra?

no EA game for me what so ever!

fardan853976d ago

If EA start to charge more than $60 then I hope gamers will be vocal one more time, this time against EA.
I hope the media will be filled with gamers voices and huge backlash.
I will not support EA business practice. If they release a game which I really want then I'll simply wait for the price to drop down to $60 then get it.

fardan853976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

What EA plans to do is absurd.

JokesOnYou3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

I know I'm going to get alot of hate for this but actually if you add inflation games are actually cheaper than they were in the 90's, we are just use to getting bargain prices for so long now. I always expected prices to go up this gen. Now with that said I think if all publishers went up $5 then that would make sense from a business perspective but anymore than that will likely turnoff alot of potential customers. Either way today's economics are not what they used to be so I fully support the idea that we should take a stand against price increases.

Name Last Name3976d ago

Too bad BF4 sales will suffer for this.

mewhy323976d ago

Well all I can say is that if they charge more for their games than the competition does then they probably won't sell as much as their competitors.

EA can suck my BAWLS! I'm not paying a penny over $60 USD!

Software_Lover3976d ago

People said they wouldn't pay over 50.00 for a game. Look what happened. I remember when gas was .99 a gallon.

DeadlyFire3975d ago

Why would you pay $60 USD. That is still high. Should be $50 bucks or less. I get most of my games these days around 20-40 a piece. Only takes 3 months for some games to drop down to $40 bucks.

THamm3976d ago

If I remember correctly, EA did this on the SEGA genesis era aswell

SnakeCQC3976d ago

someone has a long memory lol

WalterWJR3976d ago

I think EA stopped making games for the saturn or dreamcast as well because of some dispute.

princejb1343976d ago

EA must be smoking that good stuff
Gaming is already an expensive hobby.
I always though development gets more expensive not by leaping in graphics but depending on the console architecture.
For example this gen developers complained a lot on how ps3 architecture was difficult thus needing more man power and extra hours.
If ps4 architecture is almost perfectly similar to a PC than they don't need to spend that much extra resources to get it onto that console, especially since developing starts on PCs anyway

cellfluid3976d ago

Exactly what use to take months now takes days....

abzdine3976d ago

that Shaq Fu on Genesis cost my parents too much money i remember :D :D

If its the rumored 81$ for each EA game then I will not be supporting EA this gen even though I love BF.

Watch bf go from the most pre ordered to the fastest cancelled pre order

SnakeCQC3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

its not going to be $81. Things are always cheaper online so even if it is you could get one for 60 or less

xReDeMpTiOnx3976d ago

As much as I want to believe EA wouldn't charge that much, at the same time EA has done some dumb &@!@"'n

ZodTheRipper3976d ago

It'll be 69,99. Still too much.

mcstorm3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

Ive been saying this for a long time but making games more on new consoles will keep users on the current gen for longer as they are still making the same games on the PS3 and 360 as the one and PS4 and why will people want spend between £399 and £420 on a new consoles to then spend £60 or more for a game that is on there current console for £40.

This will also be the reason why COD carry's on out selling BF games into the next gen to as price dose matter to a lot of people.

SnakeCQC3976d ago

it was never 60 quid for a game the most i ever saw any game was 45 to 50 and that was for call of duty titles

mcstorm3976d ago

I never said it was £50 or £60 for a game im saying if EA make there next gen games this much it could hurt there sales for the next gen games.

Fishy Fingers3976d ago (Edited 3976d ago )

Shop around, RRP means nothing. I dont expect to pay anything more than a few pounds over what I've paid this gen. Which to be honest, I can live with. Shop around, or avoid buying day one. Gaming can be as expensive, or cheap as you make it.

Next gen titles will still cost less than I used to badger my parents into spending on a SNES game for me. So I personally dont feel that hard done by.

first1NFANTRY3976d ago

the only games i purchased this gen from EA where fifa 11, fifa 13 and till this day they haven't made any significant changes nor have they fixed the lag online.

next gen i'm going with Pro Evo Soccer. i'm not giving anymore of my money to these scum. and i'll be buying BF4 later when it drops in price.

i'm seriously sick of EA's overpriced games.

There are no "thoughtful" ads in video games, EA

There are no thoughtful ads in Video Games, EA. Leave them be.

I think the only type of games that can gets away with it would be sport games, having those sponsors ads on the side like on real life.

But don't put freaking Doritos ads in Star Wars or something, it breaks the immersion. If it is a pop-up ads, then big no.

Hofstaderman14d ago

EA can thoughtfully eff themselves.

Makersbreath214d ago

EA coming back for the crown of being perceived as the worst company in gaming.

Chocoburger13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

One of my favorite series is the THPS franchise, and it was packed with ads, but it didn't bother me. Posters for skateboard companies, JEEP, and Nokia phones. It did sort of fit in with the game world, but that was the past, these days ad would be intentionally intrusive or unskippable loading screen type of imagery. Ugh, I know EA would do it in a horrible fashion. Screw them.

Report: Sexual Misconduct Investigation Conducted at EA, Suspects Named and What They Did Revealed

EA senior staff has been investigated for sexual misconduct involving female coworkers, and these said people have been named publicly.

isarai19d ago

Aye just call Phil, i mean he somehow made Bobby Kotick's scandal disappear and gave him a few million dollar high five on the way out.

Cacabunga19d ago

I wonder if it will be censored with some in game ads.

MrBaskerville17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

Microsoft did, Phil Spencer played a minor part. He instigated the buyout that led to Kotick escaping all his controversies while getting a golden handshake.

Someone on Twitter calculated that the people hired in Tango and Arkane Austin could get a decent salary for roughly 17 years for the money Kotick was paid.

InUrFoxHole16d ago

Yeah some thing tells me Kotics $ was already guaranteed before MS made the deal. As for the studios... Let's be honest here... none of those studios made system sellers.

XiNatsuDragnel19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

EA about to go down like Activision and then Phil saves the day saying.this is good for the industry and consolidation will help create competition. /s.

MrBaskerville17d ago

Then they shutdown Codemasters and studio behind Jedi Survivor.

Atleast they could hardly do much damage that EA hadn't allready done. EA has shut down most of their studios by now.

ravens5219d ago

What's up with all these horny creeps. You gon be horny, fine. Just not at work take care of that shit before you go in. Rub one out if you have to. Don't be a creep at all. ESPECIALLY at work. But don't be one AT ALL.

Extermin8or3_19d ago

I mean part of the issue is that things transpired outside of work....

MrBaskerville17d ago

That's the thing he mentioned about not being a creep at all.

KwietStorm_BLM19d ago

You think deviants care where they are? Work sometimes makes it an even better situation for them because they can abuse their power.

mudakoshaka18d ago

Nerds think they are Gods when they are making video games.

NotoriousWhiz19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

"it seems that according to EA, given the events transpired outside of work between two adults, and the fact that once investigation has started that the alleged perpetrators didn’t do it again, the investigation is considered closed. [...] The victim still has to work with the people that harassed her."

Yep, EA is disgusting.

Extermin8or3_19d ago

I mean the fact stuff happened outside of work puts EA in quite a difficult position legally. These women don't seem to have reported the matter to the police which kinda ties EA's hands on what they can do. If they don't file reports of the crimes then yeah from EA's perspective it is stuff that happened outside of work. The only exception is the guy that apparently referenced things in the slack channel for work, spending on what he said proving it may be very hard and he may well be able to get away with plausible deniability. I don't like EA and I think these people need to be dismissed but without any legal action being taken, EA can't really do much without risk of being sued themselves for unfair dismissal etc.
