Watched the gameplay video and while it seems a bit odd at places (certain animations during fighting or the lack of weight when attacks land or lack of effects while stepping on fallen enemies), it does seem to nail the atmosphere which is of paramount importance for me for such type of game.
The fog effect is implemented very well, the color palette is fitting and the lighting conveys a feeling of isolation and dread.

Very safe list of horror games. I would argue that Amnesia Machine for Pig was not that great. Dark Descent was much a much better game.
Far better games have been released in this genre (Dead Space Remake, Alien Isolation, Alan Wake 2 etc).
I really like Stormling Studios games. Darkness Within 2 Linage was sublime old style horror game, Conarium (excellent switch port by the way) and Transient.
They know their Cthulhu mythos well
Amazing series! I only wish they could reverse their decision and release a new entry.
Played them on Steamdeck (UC 4 and Lost Odyssey) and both performed very good and looked stunning.

I get that Senua is stunning, but in order to achieve this, they lowered frame rate and resolution and the game is not open world.

That is an interesting take. I believe you are right. Even Outlast went with Outlast Trails and Maid of Sker went with co op shooter formula (Sker Ritual, played it but did not like it a bit).
Good thing though is that there are so many quality indie/AA horror games releasing, that can fill the gap.

The game is certainly not a masterpiece, but the aggregate metascore is quite good (unless 81% seems to indicate that this is a bad game somehow).

2023 and 2024 were great years for horror games.
Dead Space, RE 4 Remake, Alan Wake 2, Alone in the Dark, Calisto Protocol , Dying Light 2 to name but a few.
In 2024 and beyond we also have Still Wakes the Deep, Until Dawn Remake, Stalker 2, Silent Hill 2, the Casting of Frank Stone
We also had an increasing quality and quantity of indie horror games which sometimes blur the lines between an AAA game and indie visual wise.

My main concern with UE5, is that some developers have resorted to very low resolutions in order to enable the advanced feature set of this engine and sustain the frame rate.
In open world games, especially those with excellent graphics, we cant realistically expect 60fps from consoles (PS5 pro set aside as we do not know exactly how performant it will be) without huge compromises.
Thus the new Witcher game will probably require more powerful consol...
