So I was reading a chapter about multiculturalism in my marketing text book and the advantages of diversity since i find this topic really interesting especially if your living in a country like Canada which is one of the most diverse countries in the world. The idea of diversity struck my mind when it came to how it's implemented into Video games.
'Do video games promote diversity and multiculturalism to some extent?
Well in all honesty i don't think so, I believe that the gaming industry lacks diversity especially compared to the music and the film industry. Why don't we see games that show us true pictures of different cultures and different people from different parts of the world. I can understand the developers may want to stick with the true tried and tested traditions but i believe that gaming now has become a global phenomenon and i have seen it grow into a billion dollar industry yet it still lacks diversity.
Japan is the only region which promotes alot of its culture through video games and i wouldn't be surprised if gamers here in the west know only about Japan through video games. Some might even think that all Japanese people know martial arts when we know thats just stereotype. Japanese games become very successful here in the West because they represent a different lifestyle more colorful and vibrant, more lively and more family oriented (Final Fantasy, Eternal Sonata, Dragon Quest, Mario).
Prince of Persia was another game that was different when it came out since it portrayed the Middle Eastern culture but of course it was far from perfect. Sands of time was a great game and showed some middle eastern architecture and dressing styles but like i said it was far from the actual middle eastern traditions. Now i don't really want things to be accurate but they should at least to some extent show different cultures and traditions. I hope Ubisoft does that well with Assassin's Creed but somehow i highly doubt it.
Sony online Entertainment is working on a big project by creating an MMO based on Indian scriptures or the Sanskrit epic called Ramayana. This is something i am really looking forward to, to immerse yourself in a totally different lifestyle, culture, religion, background. India is a very culturally rich country that holds its traditions and values very dearly and to see something new i personally think it might turn out to be a commercial success since i am tired of the same military shooters, cookie cutter mmo's and bad EA sports games. I think its time for people to accept something new and different. Something they don't often get to see and i believe that thing is called Diversity and to see traditional values from other countries and regions.
There is tremendous potential in this market since the world is becoming smaller everyday and i believe people need to look beyond the Military Shooters and the Alien Bashing and experience something new and different.I want to see an RPG game based on the Egyptian and Greek Mythology or a GTA type of game based in the Ottoman empire time frame. I loved Age of Empires and Age of Mythology and especially Civilization IV which is still one of the best games ever created and i salute Sid Meier's for that but from looking at the games that are coming nowadays the games simply lacks Diversity.
Its not like we don't have the technology or the lack of creativity since i believe that the gaming industry has some of the most creative people in this word its just that people are sticking to traditional ways of making games and not thinking out of the box. I think Bioshock was great even though it wasn't promoting any type of diversity in the game still took an entirely different approach to story telling and created an environment that felt so real. So in the end i would just like to add that i believe that there should be some form of Diversity and multiculturalism in Video games since we live in a world that is so rich, so diverse in nature, so colorful and vibrant yet we only see the same things again and again.
A number of leaks have popped up that reference Pokemon Black and White remakes in some way. Are they all coincidences or real in 2024?
The Final Fantasy VII Rebirth combat director has expressed that he wants the final part in the trilogy to offer players "even more freedom".
I love the game so far but please don’t make the final part a mini game fest
Everytime I get to a new part in Rebirth it’s “mini game time”
As long as it comes out on PS5 to have the entire series on one platform, do whatever you want
The combat is my favorite thing about Rebirth. Would be really cool if they can improve it even more.
I hope after FF7 Square will either give a new FF game the remake treatment. Or give some of their older titles a remake treatment like Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, even Xenogears.
Wccf tech writes: "Kingdom Come Deliverance 2's scope was impacted by the Xbox Series S hardware limitations, as developers could only make a game that was 25% bigger than its predecessor."
More info from the author of the article, I think: https://www.reddit.com/r/ki...
Quote:
"1) I was told this info from the producer of the game Martin Klíma.
2) He specifically said the game will have only one mode.
3) And this mode is 4K 30 on PS5/XSX and 1440p 30 on XSS.
4) He said that the game is already running north of the 30 FPS cap so the performance should be stable on launch, much better than KCD1.
5) The limitation was XSS because of the 10GB memory. He said that's why they wanted to make the game 25% larger.
6) Speculation on my part: the output resolution is probably upscaled and the reason why there won't be a 60 FPS mode is because it'll most likely be very CPU heavy, like Dragon's Dogma 2 for example."
Doesn't seem like they're adding a 40fps mode on PS5/Series X for launch even if they can handle it.
Remember when xbots were adamant that the series s won’t hold back the gen?
Microsoft just needs to let go of the mandatory parity. Who cares if your grandma doesn’t understand that a game cannot be played on the S. It’s not like it she can buy you a physical game for it anyway. Before buying the game put up a notice that it only works on series X. If you’re buying for a friend-allow for a refund.
Bam. Everyone is happy. Most series s owners are for casuals that want Game Pass anyway and most likely don’t purchase most games.
If the developers want it to run on S, let them figure it out.
“During the event, the Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 producer also revealed that on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, the game will run at 4K resolution and 30 frames per second“
Another “creative decision” right? 🤦♂️
I hadn't seen your post here until now, with all the duplicate news posts here it's easy to miss the gems. And I agree, seeing different cultures in games is definitely something we should be seeing more of. The most amount of foreign culture that we see these days is of the WWII Nazi's.
