No more heroes.....not exactly what we expected

This week saw the Japanese retail release of No More Heroes, the latest game from Grasshopper Manufacture and creator Goichi Suda (Suda 51). We've given you the basics in past previews from Tokyo Game Show and EGM, so we won't do too huge a recap. In short, you play as Travis Touchdown, a stylishly-dressed yet desperate otaku who aspires to be a top-level assassin. And as you'll discover, Travis is probably the least weird of the assassins.

I had high hopes for this game, but it just looks terrible. Choppy gameplay, Frequent framerate drops, looks disappointing now. The graphics look so so muddy, even for a wii game.

I'm still looking forward to this game. It doesn't have to be a killer app just a nice little ultra-violence in an otherwise E for everyone world ;)

I kinda saw this coming, just like Killer 7. It's going to gain a rabid cult following for sure, but not much outside of that. I'm still going to get it even though I have been irritated by the animations, especially when Travis is swinging he looks so stiff.

Killer 7 and Okami and Vietiful joe were all terrible games. Well, to me they were. This is not a suprise at all. Okami was a great idea and had a very zelda style approach to it, but the intro killed it for me. I finally got thru the 23 min intro and played the game for like an hour. I never went back to it. I couldn't. The intro and story just bored me.

This game, coupled with the garbage ass wii mote, will be a huge walk thru average vill.

Ok I can see why you wouldn't like Killer 7 and possibly even Viewtiful Joe (I liked it but the 2nd sucked), but Okami man? Go back and play longer than an hour and you'll see how badass that game is. It's got depth and the story doesn't drag on like you'd think it would from the first hour or so. Okami outdid Zelda in it's own style even though people would like you to not compare the two. There's even some StreetFighter fan service in there. The only gripe is that they speak that gibberish crap from the Starfox Skool of Speech.

I have to agree with everyone the Wii is S***. I've had mine since launch of Nov. 2006, and I'm just starting to play it since Dec. 2006. I played Mario Galaxy, but it doesn't make up for all the months of boredom with the Wii. Wii games suck. I was looking forward to playing this, but the only game I'm looking forward to now are Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and maybe Mario Kart.

The wii has the worst games out of the three next gen consoles, therefore, I'm selling my Wii on ebay for the holidays. I advise everyone else to do the same until the Wii gets a library of games everyone wants.

Seeing how most of these games were rated by at least 30 different people (game critics) you would think thier collective opinions mattered somewhat. And seeing how it's more than one person rating these games it's not someones opinion, and a majority of critics opinions.

I agree their opinions and my opinions are just that opinions. However, what games after November 2006 did you play and truly enjoyed on the Wii.

For me Dec. 2006 Just got done with Zelda, and starting to get tired of Wii Sports.

Jan. 2007. Wii's just sitting there.

Feb. 2007. Free Wii mote with Wii Play.

March 2007. Just sitting there.

April 2007. still sitting there.

May 2007. Dust bunnies are attacking my Wii.

June 2007. Forgot I even owned a Wii.

July 2007. The Wii is withering away.

A website releases a good preview of a particular game and people are like "ooh, I must have this. I will by this on day one. This game is awesome. SUDA 51 you are my Hero!"

and then a negative preview comes out and these very same people are like "The Wii has lost the hardcore. This game sucks. So much for the killer app."

I bet this very thing translates into your pathetic lives. I bet you are the kind of people who never take initiative - they just blindly follow others around.

This is why artsy games keep failing. People just don't have enough faith in them.

Hah you can't honestly say you were surprised by this man. Suda's games are awesome but they ARE an acquired taste for most (I'm an art school graduate so you know where I stand). I never saw this game gaining a huge commercial success judging from the past games, but I always knew I'd buy it. This still remains one of the 3 games I even want a Wii for to begin with, the other two being Eternity's Child and Oboro Muramasa Youtouden. Just get it, enjoy it and forget what other people think about it.

Yes I'm a fanboy. I love consoles that have good video games. And since the Wii doesn't have enough I thinks it's a piece of S^@#.

I love my PS3 for Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Resistance: FOM, Motorstorm, Call of Duty 4, Virtua Fighter 5, Assassin's Creed, GRAW 2, Ratchet and Clank, and Uncharted.

I love my 360 for Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Gears of War, Rainbow Six Vegas, Forza, Dead Rising, Crackdown, and soon to be the Orange Box.

I love my Wii for The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess (Gamecube game), Wii Sports, Wii Play (thanks for the added Wii Mote), Metroid 3, and Super Mario Galaxy.

Looking into 2008 I have plenty to look forward to for my PS3, Xbox 360 has quite a few 3rd party exclusive's as well.

Wii has SSBB (the only game that I would go out and buy another Wii for), and Mario Kart.

I personally was looking forward to this game. The game doesn't have a lot of gore in it I'm fine by that. What I don't like is a game with frame rate issues when there's absolutely no excuse for any. Why should we have to play a game that's about as technical as Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but plays like a Nintendo 64 game. Graphically this game does nothing to surpass what games from last gen did so what's the problem with the frame rate.

THIS GAME INDEED, so what does this has to do with the Wii?
if they push the hardware to its limit like the PS2 you will see a difference in last gen gfx.

I did not like Bioschock, i didn't liked FORZA, i didn't liked AC, GEARS of war bored me after an hour.
simply because these games all felt the SAME, just like any other game thats out there.

the only reason i will get a ps3 and 360 is because of software that have a FUN factor...but thats only based on opinions what people think is fun.

to me the consoles dont differ that much, they all have crappy games and some are good. but i dont see anything special on the 360 nor ps3.

i have no regrets getting a ps3 because it actually has good games

Since you're enjoying the Wii so much what games have you actually played and enjoyed since you bought your Wii? After that what games have you actually bought for the Wii?

I liked playing Excite Truck, Wii Sports, Mairo Galaxy, Metroid 3, and Legend of Zelda: TP. But 5 games can't/won't last for a whole year.

To me (this is my opinion not what I think the world should agree with) the Wii's library of games is abysmal. To me (again my opinion) Since the Wii isn't as technologically advanced as the Xbox 360 and the PS3 there should be no excuse for the lack of good games on it. That is why I think (one more time my opinion) the Wii is s#@!.

DreamIntruder 15. What are you talking about? Are you saying if you don't want a Wii don't buy one? If you are then my response to that would be I wanted a Wii, until I found out that there weren't going to be any good games on it.

This generation of games has taught me a lot and prepared me for the next gen. I'll never again by any system on launch. And finally I won't buy a Nintendo system until all of it's major titles are available for the system (In the Wii's case it'll be 2009 or 2010).

Yes, we could say the wii has shovelware, we could say it’s graphics are nowhere near the realm of the other two. We could also say Microsoft’s xbox 360 is unreliable, or Sony blew it by forcing customers to invest in bluray, or was a bit on the arrogant side coming out of the gate at $600. What point is there? No body here is an authority on anything (except douchebaggery), each unto their own.

Or we could say that we are tired of the same games being updated with graphics; that’s how I feel. It doesn’t bother me in the least that wii games get poor scores, because it’s different! It takes some getting used to by consumers, critics, AND developers. Yeah, I have wondered what the hell people are thinking releasing some of the stuff on wii that they have, but I’ll still take it over the same old. That is how people are feeling, maybe not you, but a considerable amount, hence the incredible sales.

Finally someone who disagrees without taking hits at me for not liking the Wii anymore.

You make some very good points, the Wii is trying to be innovative, but with the types of games that are being pushed out (Offroad Extreme is a perfect example) the Wii will never be able to make me want another one.

I guess I just don't understand why Nintendo doesn't help developers make good games for their system. Every game made by Nintendo is great.

Zelda 9/10 and higher, Metroid 9/10 and higher (Retro), Mario 9/10 and higher, Mario Kart I expect 9/10 and higher, and SSBB I expect 9/10 and higher. Here we have an example of an Adventure game, a Shooter (first person adventure), a Platformer, Racing, and a fighting game. Why is it so difficult for Nintendo to help people who are trying to make games for their console.

Dragon Sword sound like a good ideal, a sword with multiple powers. This could had been aided by things do in Zelda: TP. But instead no help from Nintendo and it bombed. Same goes for Soul Calibur Legends.

Red Steel unfortunately came out before it's time. With a little more polish I think this game could have been one of the best and best looking Wii games. If a Red Steel 2 is announced maybe Nintendo (Retro) can aid with the control as they did in Metroid 3.

This one is very unlikely, but maybe Nintendo could help Sega with Sonic. If not Sonic then stop making Music games with Donkey Kong and Put him back to his platformer roots.

Every racing game on the Wii suck (with the exception of Excite Truck). Nintendo help the out.

As for fighting games the Wii has none, but anime games.

The Wii does have potential, but until that potential becomes a reality there's no need for any true gamer to buy a Wii except for 1st party games.
