Actually, the Xbox 360 version was in development side-by-side the PS3 version until Sony and Epic made the deal of UT3 being a timed exclusive. As further proof, I have the July issue Official Xbox Magazine where the OXM team had a hands-on experience with the Xbox 360 version.

Guys if you have a ps3 and wanna pick up UT3, then pick up the ps3 version. The best version is the PC version but if your pC suck, then ps3 is the second best, why you ask? for 2 very important reason.

1.Ps3 version will support mouse and keyboard

Dude, if you played CounterStrike then your gaming life has been made better by a mod...to me CS is one of my top FPSs to date, and UT3 (in my opinion) will be best in a PC, but if you lack the specs, then the PS3 would be the next pick just because of downloadable mods...although I expect the 360/PS3 play/look super close (i expect that from epic). PS3 version was push ahead of 360 because epic made it priority to customize their unreal engine 3 to PS3's hardware to solve problems with development delays (like black site, Stranglehold). Since they are selling Unreal engine as middle ware, it would make sense to optimize asap it so it doesn't look like an unfinished product when other devs want to use it for PS3 development.

The only differences I have heard of are mouse/keyboard support and use of mods for the PS3. This is not as bigger deal as you might think in terms of console gaming. It certainly would not make me buy a PS3 and or the PS3 version of the game over a high-spec PC.

I wont be buying the PC verson because i use a IMAC "unless epic releases a mac osx version" so that only leaves me one choice...the PS3 version. I have said it once and i will say it again.Mods in games isnt IMPORTANT AT ALL in console gaming.Most console gamers dont want to sit down and map complete maps from scratch.We have had console game like Far Cry on console that had user generated maps.It was a very good feature and game but didnt stay around for long.As long as the game ships with a good amount of maps console gamers are fine.And dont forget there is DLC.There is a little game called GRAW 2 that has over 30 MAPS.Why would i need to sit dont for hours making maps when i have this many maps to choose from?Mods are GREAT for PC gamers and should stay there.And i will also add that this game will be best on PC.What you people forget where it came from?

Do you know what Mods ARE? We arent talking about just MapPacks here... It allows the Moding community access to the UT3 engine. This means total conversions... which in turn means NEW games.

Counterstrike is one such example... which was Based on the Half Life engine... It was a free download and able to be run after having purchased Half Life.. (Valve ??)

Just as for Quake 3... The amount of excellent mods.Like Urban Terror , Truecombat , Navy Seals allowed many different styles of online gameplay, all with their own merits and have without a doubt extend the life of my Q3 purchase.

Basically , Buy 1 FPS , and download many...

Maybe its not important to you, but to many FPS fans , Mod support is the Icing on the cake.

As far as the best version, there is a lot I'm not sure about and how it is going to work with the maps and such, but the 360 is a FPS console and XBL have been a staple for FPS games for years.

the PS3 version is the ONLY version that will at least compare to the PC...it has the free mod support, the open online network (for free also), and mouse and keyboard support...the 360 does not have any of that...

the mods are what make UT games last for years and not really get old...UT3 won't be any different...and the PSN supports the modding...You can download stuff straight from the Epic website...you can send files to friends...you can load maps off of a memory card...and you will be able to get stuff off the PS store...XBL you won't be able to do any of that...and you will also have to pay TWICE for it...pay for your subscription, and then pay again for the map packs that will have to go through a month or so long approval process...

and the 360 doesn't support a mouse and keyboard, the PS3 does...you may think that your 360 controller is the best for FPS games...but your 360 has never played anything like UT3...no controller is great for a game with this pace...and the 360 keeps you stuck with it because of MS's peripheral protocols...

If the 360 is all you have...get that version...but any non-fanboy understands that the 360 is truely getting a very weak version of the game...its not Epic's fault...its MS's...the PS3 and PSN version supports everything that made the franchise such a hit on the PC...and the 360 doesn't...simple as that...if you own both a PS3 and 360, there is absolutely not one reason to get the 360 version...

Are you going to have a little coffe table in front of you and have to be in an uncomfortable position.

The whole point of a console is to lay back on the sofa, start up your 42inch+ screen and chill with your mates.

If you're so bothered about a mouse and keyboard you should be using a pc, that way you've got the right set up for it. This includes the desk and pc chair, which isn't suited (no point either) to a console.

Plus on 360 you know that you are playing against others with the same controler so it's not a big deal you just have to master the controler.

What I want to know is what the deal with all the PSN>Xbox Live talk. Where did that come from? Was there a defining moment when fanboys just decided they would make that up? Maybe the 100th firmware update brought something I didn't see, I'd like to know.

its not fanboys making anything up...this thread is full of ignorance on the part of XBL...

most XBL users just assume PSN is crap...where as PSN is far more open, and the PS3's downloading abilities are also far more open...because of this, the PS3 version has much more access to free UGC be it through websites, friends, other PS3's, or the PS store...where as the 360 can only download content from the marketplace...You can't download a map from Epic's website...you can't have a friend send you full mod...you can't do anything like that...and also Epic has rumored that the PS3 master server will be linked to a few farms of dedicated servers...that way a map that you don't have locally can easily be downloaded quickly (something that XBL will also not support), and this also creates a nearly lag free playing experience...the only thing, in terms of UT3, that XBL has on the PSN is achievements...thats it...

With UT3, the PSN will be mimicking a totally open PC like community...where you can get and install content from several different sources...and being that UT games are so heavily fueled by incredible mods, its kind of a big deal that the PSN allows it, and XBL doesn't...

That is innovative from epic yes. But to say the PSN will be the only choice for these features is a little short sighted. Bungie already has the ball rolling for downloadable content in the form of user made screenshots, movies and modified maps. You can check what I have to share here for example:

With Epic saying they wouldn't release a 360 version until they had the said freedom to allow user generated content on live and with this title still on schedule I think it's only a matter of an announcement to put those features on track. With the PS3 version delayed maybe into the new year (correct me if I'm wrong) the PS3 game may not have the console exclusive tag very long.

no doubt bungie pushed the UGC card with XBL...but its still closed...that was what I was getting at...

its not that UGC is not "allowed" on XBL...some games support it and everything...its the sharing of it that can't compete with the PSN...the PSN allows a PS3 to download content from websites, from the store, from other users...as well as allows importing simply from discs or memory cards (360s can actually do that too)...

IF epic implements something like what Halo 3 has...it would probably work pretty well...although it would drastically seperate the 360 community mod wise from the PS3 and PC environments...it would still be better than paying for a map pack once a year on marketplace...

its simply a matter of fact that the best mod makers will be making them for the PC version of the game...of which the PS3 is capable of downloading also (assuming they do the "convert to PS3 file" save in the editor)...the 360 will have no way of getting these mods unless they go through the long approval process of XBL marketplace...something that isn't cheap, or quick...and unless the 360 version comes with its own mod editor, how are people going to create their own mods to share within XBL in the first place?

i love unreal played them all, on the mod thing not that many people will bother with the mods unless u have a stong pc background ie its not that easy it can take weeks and weeks to creat a good playable map so for all you ps3 owners out there you probabley wont use it and if you do you will need a good pc to do so,im an xbox 360 owner so i hope epic will release some of the mod content as dlc on live ,as for the game we should all be happy the we are all getting it, cant wait
