Raendom4763d ago

Yep seems real. That means all those fake consoles were actually the final design? REALLY looks like Nintendo took inspiration from the Windows 7 DVD case.

Vojkan4763d ago

Shame that there is already so much leaked stuff. By E3 we will know everything.
I might stop checking gaming site until E3 is over.

Anarki4763d ago

The actual console looks too fake and plasticy... It'll probably be a prototype, if not.......I'm disappoint!

tehpees34763d ago

if even this has more disc storage then it just proves how much rubbish M$ is talking about disc space

Cenobia4763d ago

To me this looks like someones school/college project. Probably a designer's presentation.

It looks like a classroom. The person watching is elevated above the speaker, which makes me think additional rows behind would keep going up, kind of like a theater. The room also has an extraordinarily high ceiling.

Why would anyone except a college have a room like that? Any company meeting would take place in a flat room with people around a table.

AAACE54763d ago (Edited 4763d ago )

@tehpees3... What is it with you and MS?

This is all about Nintendo, yet you felt the need to bring up MS!

Stay focused buddy!

Anyway, I think it's the real thing! We are too close to E3 for fake stuff to show up.

milohighclub4763d ago

did anyone notice the console near the woman giving a presentation.

nveenio4763d ago

That controller......bad vibes, man...bad vibes.......

Headquarters114763d ago

so is this supposed to be better than xbox and ps3. im confused

Smacktard4763d ago

@Milohighclub

Oh, you mean the console that was highlighted with a red circle so as to draw our attention towards it?

Nope, didn't notice it at all.

Wow...they totally ripped off the 360 controller.

Giant_Chibi4763d ago (Edited 4763d ago )

...and the 360 controller ripped off the dreamcast

Ju4763d ago

Wouldn't say they ripped off DC, XBox is the DC follow up anyway (look who switched Sega for MS after DC got canned).

LimeyOtoko4763d ago

Have you ever seen a Gamecube controller? Nintendo had the button layout first.

Otheros004763d ago

Dreamcast was released before the gamecube. Xbox and gamecube ripoff the dreamcast button layout.

Ju4763d ago

LOL: http://www.guardian.co.uk/t...

;) Give it a read, you'd might learn something new.

lowcarb4763d ago

I don't care who ripped off who! If they can get the analogs and d-pad down correctly I'm sold.

Arnon4763d ago

Wow people. You really need to brush up on your reading. Ju's 100% correct. The Xbox franchise is the Dreamcast follow-up. Microsoft did in fact, play a major role with the Dreamcast.

n4gisatroll4763d ago

Ju,

Nice read. I understand now why Microsoft is non stop with only the Sony trash talk.

bwazy4763d ago

One word (i think)

VIRTUALBOY

Legionaire20054763d ago

No Otheros00 your wrong Nintendo really did came out with the button layout first, and it wasn't the Gamecube, LimeyOtoko. It was the Nintendo 64 that everybody copy off of. Nintendo even had the Rumble controllers first.

nveenio4763d ago

@Legionaire2005

No, Nintendo had rumble PACKS. There's a big difference there. It wasn't the controller that rumbled, it was an attachment sold separately.

HolyOrangeCows4763d ago

I know, right?! I love the Cafe controller....."It's so bad"
lol

"Wow...they totally ripped off the 360 controller"
Looks more like a Gamecube controller, but without the indent at the bottom with the control sticks.

Pretty ugly thing. I really don't think we need touchscreens on our console controllers...

Stephen55434763d ago

It's fake. For 1 the only reason why there would be no sound on the video is because they're trying to cover up how fake it is, and 2 the size of the touch screen on the controller is off. It's 6 inches. Here's a link to a post that compares the size of the touch screen if it was actually six inches.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

I'm not backing down on how much I think this design is fake. Of course if I'm wrong I'm wrong, but until I'm proven otherwise, I'm just thinking that this is just a hoax that has been put together really well.

n4gisatroll4763d ago

What if that's how it looks but whatever specs are wrong?

Theonetheonly4763d ago

I dont see the benefit of hoaxing like this, maybe a modchip but just some pictures on a projector? If it were a hoax they would probably go the extra mile to make the stuff on the screen readable.

;p

Stephen55434763d ago

Be that if it may. Let's say those specs about the screen being six inches are incorrect. In THIS video you can clearly see that it marks the controller as having the screen size of 6 inches(nearing the end). And if you would look at the link I sent previously you would notice that if that's the case, the analogs shown would be ungodly huge (as of the rest of the controller). It's fake.

n4gisatroll4763d ago

Raendom:

I'm really thinking failure on this console, just like the dreamcast.

TheGameFoxJTV4763d ago

It's nintendo. They won't fail dude.

meganick4763d ago

Nintendo always manages to survive in the console market, even when they're in last place. You can expect Project Cafe to at least do well enough to allow Nintendo to continue in the console market.

Jamegohanssj54763d ago

Lol only 8gb? I have 16 in my cellular phone. GREAT JOB NINTENDO.

TGSI

ConstipatedGorilla4763d ago

I really hope they're wrong about the 8gb, or it's expandable by a few hundred. That's really going to limit them if it's true.

TheGameFoxJTV4763d ago

That wasn't talking about RAM. Ugh....

Jamegohanssj54763d ago

I wasn't talking aboot RAM either lol.

TGSI

meganick4763d ago

That's only a rumor, and hopefully one that's not true.

TheGameFoxJTV4761d ago

No, lol. I was disappointing that the 8gb wasn't referring to ram. Should have made that more clear. 8gb of storage space is horrible.

Wow I'm not saying if it real are not yet I hope this fool did not sing an nda they can get him for unauthorized vids.

Like I said before every thing can still change which is why we won't see the real console till E3. So leak or not every thing is still in flux.

pain777pas4763d ago

Yep that looks pretty solid. Not sure if it is the final design but that was a presentation for the device from I can tell. Still need to know much more. E3 has far from been ruined. Price will dictate whether I pick this up.

rob60214763d ago

Is that Reggie in the Video?? If it is he must be racking his brain wondering who was sitting behind him that day lol.

UnbiasedGamer4763d ago

Really hope that is not the final design or this video has nothing to do with it..this seems like a step backward and comparisons made to a Windows DVD case...Wii is a sleek and small looking console, This meant to be the next generation of Nintendo packing new power so it should look the part as well.

SkylineR4763d ago

I can do the same thing in my University. No Nintendo logo in the presentation which did not even fit the entire screen just a section which shows how amateur attempt it is.Just 3 weeks from E3 have some patience.

Solid_Malone4763d ago

it seems that they had a running unit in front of them.

conjurdevil4763d ago

if they had a running unit in front of them why not show the controller too?why was it still displayed only in the presentation?

Edman8884763d ago

@conjuredevil - Do you really think the whole presentaion was 40s long? They could have shown the controller at some other point.

ChickeyCantor4763d ago (Edited 4763d ago )

Eh, you talk like you are a pro at making presentation. But sure sounds like you never did a presentation towards a larger group.

You could show off the controller, but it would be easier to show it on a slide so that everyone can see it clearly.

I'm not saying this is real, but it could very well be that this is an old presentation where they were only running a SDK of it. While the controller could still be in concept mode.

conjurdevil4763d ago

@sidar

NGP was a prototype wasn't it shown among a larger group of audience?

My point is- this was a very amateur attempt to show what is already known.Nothing new.

Ju4763d ago

Doesn't mean there was a physical product there. It really depends who that audience is. If for example, this is targeted at developers, the main idea for such a presentation is to outline the scope of the product and introduce the tools how to use it. There is no need to have a controller at hand at this point. It is possibly to outline the development tools. Could be close to real but I'd assume it is still early to judge to say this is the final design. I am more curious how Nintendo is pushing the prize with a TFT in the controller(s). TFT vs. HDD I guess. Maybe that can be substituted.

archemides5184763d ago

i'm gonna agree this is FAKE, and that "prototype" is not cafe but a hard drive or something made up to look like it.

do none of yall understand proportions? do you know how HUGE the cafe would have to be if the disc slot was was big as on the diagram? we're talking LONGER than a ps3 here!!! and the "prototype" has it's disc slot going almost all the way across/spanning the console. seeriously just wait a few weeks.

Zir04763d ago

If it is fake someone has certainly went through a lot of trouble.

Such as making the powerpoint, the video of the 3D world shown on the controller, designing and creating the actual console and leaking those images out too by different sources.

What is even weirder is how would they manage to put this all together in such a short period of time from it being announced.

LightofDarkness4763d ago (Edited 4763d ago )

That's not a lot of trouble. The video is a few seconds long and barely shows anything. The powerpoint had about 2 slides, inserting video in powerpoint takes about 3 clicks. That scene could be from any game, it's too small and blurry to make out any defining details as to where it comes from (trying to hide something, eh?). There's no audio, an immediate red flag, as that presenter is likely talking about something else entirely. No controller demonstrated either. It's FAKE.

THILLREBORN4763d ago

So in a couple of weeks when I'm playing with project cafe at E3 can I come back and call you a negative Nancy for doubting what has already been pretty much confirmed...or are you just mad because the new console doesn't live up the the romanticized hype that you put behind it...I gonna say I struck a nerve.

archemides5184763d ago

totally not a lot of trouble, i could do it in 10 minutes with 2 friends in a dorm (1 to sit in front of the camera, 1 to stand around pointing at stuff). not even CLOSE to an elaborate prank

archemides5184763d ago

THILLREBORN i'm just saying this so people don't as easily believe what is presented to them, that's one way to control them

LightofDarkness4763d ago (Edited 4763d ago )

Did you just have a conversation with yourself (or an imaginary me)? How do you get from asking me a question to believing you struck a nerve without actually getting a response?

And no, I have no "romanticized hype" (REALLY?) about this at all. See, the problem here is that when YOU make assumptions it becomes quite clear that you were dropped on your head so forcefully as a child that somehow vital chromosomes spilled out (too hard NOT to be intentional, I say), leaving you in your current... state. I let you ponder that while I go get one of smarter assisted living nurses to explain that joke to you.

The controller with the added touch screen (?) looks expensive... : /

blumatt4763d ago

Yeah, that controller looks cool, but it has to be expensive unless that screen is super low res.

Theonetheonly4763d ago

could be a modified 3ds screen?

theonlylolking4763d ago

It is not expensive to make. A 3DS cost $100 to make and the DS will obviously cost way less soooooooooo that means we get a new cheap controller.

Theyellowflash304763d ago

Yeah if a 3DS costs $100 to make then this control could be far cheaper. I think what this says is video game companies. Sony, MS, and Nintendo have been overcharging for controllers for years. A PS3 controller costs 50 bucks does it really need to be that expensive. Hell NO! It probably costs Sony around 10-20 bucks to make that controller and they jack up the price to make more profit. Nintendo could easily charge the same price it costs to make the controller so it wont be too expensive.

PS6 Graphics – Can it Approach Photorealism?

If the PS5 Pro leaks are accurate, the eventual PS6 is slated to be one powerful console. But if modern GPUs still lag behind true photorealism, can the PS6 get there?

Hugodastrevas12d ago

I hate to be "that guy", but we have go ask ourselves do the industry need photorealistic graphics at this point or actually good games, good content, less anti-consumer practices?
This graphical obsession has brought nothing but years upon years of waiting for a game to launch with huge detailed empty worlds, bad stories and predictable gameplay and (micro)transactions everywhere. Sorry for the rant.

MrGameAndWatch12d ago

Same. I really don't want to be in an interactive film and, to me photorealism is not needed for immersion.

RaidenBlack12d ago

Why always target photorealism?
Why not use the extra horsepower for better, complex & diverse AI?
Why not target more interactable world? Why not use the new performance headroom for more physics effects?
Player choices that drastically affect and changes the game world?

Cacabunga12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

Let’s first see what PS5 graphics look like.. we’ve seen nothing yet

RaidenBlack12d ago

@Cacabunga
For that, first Naughty Dog's PS5 single-player exclusive, then Guerilla's PS5 single-player exclusive

OtterX12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

If anything, the massive layoffs in the industry right now are showing that investors are pulling out and not wanting to invest as much as they are right now into AAAs. Much less push for even higher detail, unless many parts of it are automated by AI for a cheaper price. Not saying I support people's jobs being replaced by AI, just stating a reality of what the money people want.

DarXyde12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

Photorealism should be reserved for games like Gran Turismo. It costs far too much to incorporate that level of detail.

Even then, if it comes at the cost of physics calculations or frame rate given the shared resources of consoles, I'd scale it back in favor of a smoother experience.

Nintendo was quite smart to never pigeonhole themselves into that. Great foresight on their part, I'd say.

8bitAssassin12d ago

But they've gotten very lazy on their games. I still like their approach don't just make game play your biggest innovation.

DarXyde12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

8bitAssassin,

I assume you're talking about Nintendo.

I think it works for them. I'm honestly glad that it's nothing like PlayStation or Xbox. It's a great reason to own one.

8bitAssassin11d ago

Yup!! I am. Yes it works for them and I love it. I want them to have better than average old tech so the scope of some of their games can drop jaws. I'm not talking about counting pixels either.

anast12d ago

I think we need both. Why lower the standard? A photorealistic Bloodborne or Elden Ring game would be insane.

isarai12d ago

Nah im with you on that, like visually games look fine, maybe up the resolution on average but i would much rather resources be spent on things that actually make the game FEEL good to play at this point.

shinoff218312d ago

Don't forget about the budgets.

ROCKY2812d ago

agreed - stop with the expensive photo realism and just create amazing games that are less expensive that are not a risk to create an original game within 2-3 years and not 7 years of development - like the OG PS2/Xbox era !

WolfSeed12d ago

There are individual goals for individual parameters. Graphics, gameplay, scale, geometry, AI Sophistication, etc.

This article touches one of them. No need to cancel the conversation because you care more about other things.

Amplitude12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

Some photorealism is much cheaper to produce than what devs are currently forced to do.
If all games could have path tracing, there would be no need for developers to manually map ambient occlusion, shadowmaps, reflection probes, etc. It's a huge undertaking that's making games cost way more to produce on account of the rather pathetic-for-2024 RT and general performance of the current gen consoles.

As much as i hate to say it, we need new consoles as soon as feasibly possible. These consoles launched at the absolute worst possible time, right before RT/DLSS2.0/3.0 were able to quickly skyrocket games in quality on the PC side of things, leaving a ridiculously large gap between PC and console almost immediately after launch and preventing things like CyberPunk Pathtracing Mode in other games. They're holding everything back and making games take longer to produce.

I think Microsoft may be smart if they end up adopting a model where multiple companies (including NVidia) can release multiple spec variant "PC" boxes with the XBox OS. One console every decade doesn't cut it with how quick technology moves in this new era we're in.

smolinsk12d ago

I would love the Next step in graphic to be massive but it always turns out that it takes a long time so the ps6 graphics are gonna be like the best we have now Just with 60fps in every game. World love to se the big ass large worlds with fantastic graphics and depth. Gta 6 are gonna bring that for sure.

just_looken12d ago

@hugo

100% agree but it also made the use of upscale tech the norm which made games worse and the fact console now are just tablets we need a console with a real gpu real cpu real ram setup.

It would be so amazing to see a game like you said made like the ps2/ps3 era using today's pc parts pushing the hardware.

There are titles out there that make my pc run like its still on the desktop

Barlos11d ago

Agreed. For me at least, games are escapism. I don't want them mimicking real life. Graphics don't have to be photorealistic to be impressive. As with you, I'm more about the story, and I would prefer innovation in other ways. The PS5 did it with the DualSense. This it more important to me than just shinier graphics.

+ Show (10) more repliesLast reply 11d ago
Zenzuu12d ago

Personally for me, graphics have already gotten to the point where I don't really feel the need to see having it to make anymore realistic or better.

At this point, I rather game developers focus on quality/engaging stories, gameplay, & contents. Also not every every single game needs to opened world just for the sake of it.

anast12d ago

I'd rather they focus on both. It's a trillion dollar industry. They should be able to do both.

neutralgamer199212d ago

Zenzuu

Believe it or not when it comes to consoles and games graphics are still the biggest factor. Why do you think we still see CHI trailers or in engine footage. The first impression is very important. Not for us core gamers but for millions of casuals who are quite easily impressed with wow factor graphics

TiredGamer12d ago

"More, more, more!!! I don't care what it takes - I deserve more! And I won't PAY a dollar more!"

That's the mindset of some people out there.

JEECE12d ago

I mean, can we still say that's the case even when casuals flock to mediocre looking battle royales? PUBG became huge among casuals, and it looks like a PS3 era shooter with textures that didn't load properly. And casuals have embraced the cartoon aesthetic (Fortnite is the easy example here, but there are others). What is the recent graphics focused game casuals have flocked to? Are you counting COD for that?

anast12d ago

@1992 Candy Crush and Monopoly Go

@Tired Like I said. It's a trillion dollar industry. They could definitely do more. Customers are paying a ton of money.

WolfSeed12d ago

There are individual goals for individual parameters. Graphics, gameplay, scale, geometry, AI Sophistication, etc. No need to cancel the conversation because you care more about other things.

smolinsk12d ago

Graphics are the biggest selling point and will always be.

MrBaskerville12d ago

I don't think publishers have the money to make that happen. They can barely sustain the current level of fidelity.

Sciurus_vulgaris12d ago

The goal post for what photorealistic graphics are has always been moving. I remember some 360/PS3 sports games being called photorealistic way back in the mid 2000s.

bRuud8312d ago

Simply, no! Graphics wise there is barely any difference between the PS4 and PS5 just a little more particle effects and very minimal use of ray tracing. I expect even less diffence between PS5 and PS6. Just better implementation of Ray Tracing.
