New R4i card released for 3DS

a new R4 card has been developed and now released for the 3DS – the snappily titled R4i-SDHC 3DS Card. Peter has already reported that an R4 card has been filmed working on the 3DS, but this new one promises a little more. It apparently works on all versions of the normal DS, and “existing data and programmes” from previous versions of the card can be carried over. The R4i-SDHC 3DS Card (I really love that name) is advertised as a way into the inner workings of the 3DS

Sad news. But we knew it would happen, 4 more days 'till it's out in the UK though WOHO!

Dont worry, Nintendo bricks any console that uses an R4 card. When the system detects an R4 card, the system will no longer update.

theonlylolking4821d ago

Hackers WILL find a way around that and since it is a nintendo console how hard could it be?

Yi-Long4821d ago

... Nintendo knows it will sell MUCH more systems when it's hackable.

You can tell they really didn't make much of an effort on security, as usual.

I don't see it happening that all these 3DS-systems will be 'bricked'. They will either keep it offline, or bypass it, or find another way to get away with it. Also, many MANY people don't even care that much about online-play on a handheld, so they'll just disable internet-access.

DangerTick4821d ago

Nintendo won't brick your handheld if you use this otherwise they would get sued (at least in America). Just because you use a R4 doesn't mean you would be using it for piracy.

Darkseeker4821d ago

Actually, Nintendo can't do that, it's against the law.

Even if they could do what they said, they said they would brick it upon update, but with a flashcart, there is no need to update ever.

Can't wait to see all the idiots bricking their 250 dollar 3ds..Nintendo ain't playin!

Baka-akaB4821d ago (Edited 4821d ago )

nintendo was never good at securing their consoles so far .

I don't care mind you , only thing i could hope from the hacking scene would be region unlocking ... meanwhile i'll just import

Darkseeker4821d ago

They said it would do that when the user update, but nintendo are stupid and fail to see that there is no need to update with a flashcart.

Oh, also, they won't do it because they can't, it's against the law.

browngamer44821d ago

I would love for you to show me the penal code that denotes bricking your videogame system as against the law...on a second note I seem to remeber quite a few Wiis getting bricked after a certain update..yet Wiis are still selling and Nintendo has been sued by no-one..hhmmm

Darkseeker4821d ago (Edited 4821d ago )

"I would love for you to show me the penal code that denotes bricking your videogame system as against the law"

That's property damage, which is completely illegal.

Also, those wii bricks were obviously not intended and it only happened to very few people.

If bricking was legal, Sony and Microsoft would have done it as well by now.

Otheros004821d ago (Edited 4821d ago )

It hasn't even been a month yet. 3ds security FAILS.

Stealth20k4821d ago (Edited 4821d ago )

hardly.......the 3ds part hasnt been hacked yet and anyone who uses these cards will have there systems bricked

hiredhelp4821d ago

same 360 wasnt even launched was cracked.

if you wish to play sp games and wirelssly hookup with a freind and not go online. you wont get banned or bricked. the games come out to download so anything thats gonna effect the system will get took out anyways.

why do you think nintendo wii and ds lasted test of time. nintendo know its hackable they sell millions hardware. the hackers may not buy games but they buying hardware from nintendo when you by games you not buying from nintendo.
so in the end nintendo still gains. the devs they still get alot money they dont just make for nintendo well not all.

LolololRumz4821d ago

"The R4i-SDHC 3DS Card" They may be good at hacking but they aren't so good at name choosing.

I saw this coming as soon as the 3DS launched but from what I've seen Nintendo are really cracking down on the sites that host ROMs

hiredhelp4821d ago (Edited 4821d ago )

yeh but theres soo many around. you mug to use them if there not secure. can be victim to spyware to trojan.

newsgroups people. thoe not condoning this. cough cough somert in my eye.

hiredhelp4820d ago

Well if you not like the name of the R4I how about a supercard. sure a dstt clone be out shortly too as well as others to follow suite. ;)

LolololRumz4819d ago

I don't get why you're continuing to reply, but hey I get 4 disagrees because I'm happy Nintendo is trying to sort out piracy

I lost my drive for collecting physical games due to many discs lacking the whole complete game. Instead, of collecting games I started collected figurines.

Popsicle6d ago

I am a collector have a room dedicated with a couple original arcade cabinets, physical game library, old and new consoles and controllers backlit with LED lighting. It’s very cool to have but with emulation being so strong and prevalent, I sometimes feel foolish because the hobby is expensive and like another said, the full game is not always on the disc. Could probably spend more wisely but I enjoy it.

shinoff21835d ago

Most games are usually on disc still. Of course you got you publishers that are hit and miss, Activision, ubisoft, ea, Microsoft, where the rest of the game needs downloaded.
