NextGN: Killzone 3 Review

NextGN writes: "Does everyone remember the hype surrounding Killzone 2? It all began with that pre-rendered clip that was supposed to be actual game-play footage. Eventually, it was announced to be merely a demonstration of the expactations they had for what Killzone could be on the PlayStation 3. Regardless, the footage was enough to have any fan of the first person shooter genre dying with anticipation. What seemed like an endless wait finally ended and Killzone 2 was available at retail stores worldwide. Whether Killzone 2 managed to live up to its hyped up name is one of the most debated topics in gaming, even to this day. We can finally bury this topic, because almost two years have past and Killzone 3 is, quite literally, just around the bend."

A well deserved score for an awesome game..

Redman224858d ago (Edited 4858d ago )

warning: slight spoilers in the review.

good review, I'm looking forward to KZ3. : O

"However, it is not just the graphics that stand miles above most first person shooters, both on console and PC, available today."

Oh sh*t. lol

"Killzone 3 is the best first person shooter game out today – its campaign is masterful/"

"There is no question about it; Killzone 3 is a technical masterpiece – its engine seemlessly pumps out the most beautiful graphics seen on gaming consoles today at a steady and solid rate of 30 frames per second."

360degrees4858d ago (Edited 4858d ago )

good score....im really hoping this can bring up the current Metacritic score of 86...I mean thats a pretty mediocre score for a AAA quality, first party exclusive...if KZ3's score were to drop into the 70's that would be an absolute tragedy for all gamers

cyborg69714858d ago

The only tragedy is 360 only gamers who can't play the game.

KillerCucumber4858d ago

Day one purchase. Little disappointed that he finished it in 7 hours. Mainly getting this game for its SP.

FunAndGun4858d ago (Edited 4858d ago )

I think Elite difficulty will take many more hours, so don't worry! :)

The bakedgoods beat me.

absolutely cannot wait for kz3!great score too!

disturbing_flame4858d ago

When i see the scores it get with big names like IGN, Gamespot i wonder if this game is underated.
Or maybe overated by the zines that give him big scores.

I'll see that at the end of the month, i've ordrered the game.

I've tested the demo, it looks spectacular, i can't judge on one demo, the game seemed linear and scripted like a lot of game out there but it was dynamic and enjoyable in its gameplay.
That can be a great hit to play, curious to play that.

jack_burt0n4858d ago

Gametrailers 9.4 is a big score.

trancefreak4858d ago

I'm seeing a lot more late reviews scoring in favor of kz3. I see a trend here maybe more thorough reviews.

disturbing_flame4858d ago

Yes it is true.

When you see its metacritics score you can see that it's a good game.

When you read the reviews they all tends to say (even the ones that give him a lower score than Kz2) that the game is better than KZ2.

When you read this you imagine that the game is a hit that can have a truly better overall score (on metacritics for example) than KZ2 but it is not the case.

There's something for the moment i can't really understand and i clearly need to play the game to understand what it's all about.

When you see such differences between reviews you can imagine that maybe one of them have missed a point (or two, or more...)

mrcash4858d ago

im just waiting for game pro, and game informer's reviews i generally agree with what their reviewers say.

ultimate-remag4858d ago

they are trustworthy websites.. Notice they didnt rush to put out a review.. Just shows you they take their time with the games.

Guerrilla Games' Multiplayer Horizon Game Could Be Named "Hunters Gathering," Teases Leak

Guerrilla Games' upcoming multiplayer Horizon title could be dubbed "Hunters Gathering," according to a new leak.

Jin_Sakai166d ago (Edited 166d ago )

I wish PlayStation Studios would just stick to what they do best, making great single player games.

Outside_ofthe_Box165d ago

The core gameplay of Horizon is really good, so this is one of the few I can see working out. Also GG does have one of the greatest multiplayer games ever made in Killzone 2 under their belt so MP isn't too far off with what GG does best.

SyntheticForm165d ago

Hell, I enjoyed Shadowfall's MP thoroughly even though it had issues. Guerrilla have delivered solid multiplayer experiences.

Cacabunga165d ago

Oh boy. No idea why they don't want to work on a killzone it's a much more fun multi mode. -

__SteakDeck__165d ago

@Jin_Sakai First. As a business, you don’t just stick to what you do great. If that was the case, Apple would of just done computers and not taken a risk with iTunes and the iPhone. Also have you seen the cost of their AAA games like Spiderman 2? Sony is going to need one of these GAAS games to hit, or expect budget cuts to their SP games. We’re already seeing in the document leak, that they’re asking Insomniac to cut budgets.

Jin_Sakai164d ago

Their studios aren’t masters at GaaS and it’s showing. Naughty Dog wasted all that time and Resources just to cancel Factions and Insomniac's multiplayer Spider-Verse got axed. If Sony really wants a big GaaS hit their best bet would be to acquire EA or Epic Games. You need huge support to keep these games going with content and updates.

purple101166d ago (Edited 166d ago )

OHH GOD YES,, or at least some new shooter. finals was okay but I want more, spesh from 1st party

DaleCooper165d ago

Meh. You know what could be good? A new Killzone.

Magatsuhi165d ago

Hope it's not battle royale.

anast165d ago

It would be better than Monster Hunter, but I'm good with the Gaas stuff.

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor391d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar391d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg390d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz149390d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance1138391d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim391d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC391d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance1138391d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle391d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix76390d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

REDGUM390d ago

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware730391d ago (Edited 391d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger390d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca391d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy391d ago (Edited 391d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

potatoseal390d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright390d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.
