Call of Duty Gamers Versus Halo Gamers

NextGN writes: "Considering that Call of Duty and Halo are the most popular gaming franchises today I figured that I might survey the servers to find out which gamers seem friendlier, more mature and tolerable."

Kitchen_Sink4941d ago

It's not just Halo and Call of Duty, this counts for all online games. People suck, in general.

-Alpha4941d ago (Edited 4941d ago )

MAG is designed really smartly to enforce teamwork to the point that selfish players will contribute willingly or not. (Frag Points)

It's not that MAG players don't suck. Some do, but the strong players tend to carry the weaker ones, and the weaker ones still contribute in their own way.

What MAG does so well that games like Killzone 2 and BC2 don't is that they make teamwork necessary, but they also have it designed so that bad teammates don't ruin a game (most of the time). In Killzone and Bad Company, the team always broke the game. Though, in Bad Company's case, teammates eventually got better as time weeded out the COD one-timers from the Battlefield veterans.

People do suck in general. No matter the game there is a division of skill. Either you play the game well or you don't.

of course, it's a barren wasteland

Yes! As soon as Black Ops came out, there has been a resurgence of BC2 players that are actually GOOD and KNOW how to work as a team. Right now, the teamplay is fantastic.

"I figured that I might survey the servers to find out which gamers seem friendlier, more mature and tolerable"

I'd say they're the same. You'd see jackasses in Halo and COD. It's cuz they're both XBL so it doesn't really matter IMO. The same thing if you survey KZ and COD in PSN, you'd get the generally similar results

That's another reason why I prefer gaming on a PC over consoles (though I do own and like my PS3). First you find a community that you like and has like-minded gamers. Then, get on their TeamSpeak or other communication program they use to see if it's a community you would like to join. Once you find a good match, then you can be with other gamers who respect each other and have a good time without the annoying swearing, racist and homophobic rants.

Ducky4941d ago (Edited 4941d ago )

On the flip side, you can find a swearing, racist and homophobic community to join with too. Gotta love dedicated servers for that.
Everybody is happy.

I don't know why, but idiots in objective-based games like TF2 and BC2 stick out more than... Halo/CoD.

-Alpha4941d ago (Edited 4941d ago )

Games like BC2 and TF2 are built around communities, primarily on the PC, who are more mature, I find.

Series like Battlefield and Team Fortress require co-operation, something COD and Halo do not enforce. But that doesn't make them less fun. Good players contribute to the objective.

This has nothing to do with age, though. Yes, 12 year olds are annoying but they have every right to play as you guys did. Don't pretend that you didn't play M rated games as a kid. I've run into just as many immature grown adults. That, IMO, is much sadder than running into 12 year annoying kids.

But as much as I love Battlefield, teamwork is just as good in a COD game (and in Halo). What I enjoy, and what I think makes COD and Halo so successful, is that it doesn't FORCE teamwork.

However, if I were to use some basic teamwork, I can (and do) dominate.

This is why so many people on consoles hated Bad Company 2. Too many players didn't understand how to use teamwork. They were much more into being a One Man Army. However BC2's community is pretty great now that people have learned how to use teamwork.

In regards to actual people, you can't escape immature crowds. I do find PC gamers to be more mature, but that's because consoles are much more accessible for the masses.

Ducky4941d ago (Edited 4941d ago )

Heh, but the thing about PC gamers is, when they want to be immature, they'll leave no stone unturned.

MonkeyBoy924941d ago

On a brighter note the two videos were absolutely hilarious, I find it hard to believe that there is actually human beings out there that get on like that. Ah well all the more for my own enjoyment.

BeOneWithTheGun4941d ago (Edited 4941d ago )

Anyone who wants to work in a team please add me on PSN:

BeOneWithTheGun

I have BlackOps and Killzone 3 beta. Looking for fellow gamers who don't have a coronary if we are getting spawned camped (we all do it, deal with it and fight your way out), who are not racist or massive shit talkers and no General Pattons, please. We all know what to do, no reason to bark orders the whole time.

Anyway, KZ3 beta is sweet and perfect for teamwork. Send me a friend request!

EDIT: oh, and yes sometimes it's not fair that you shot them first but you died. It's ok. Complain once in a while is understandable but after every single death screaming, "WTF!!???!!! That is bullshit! FUCK!" is lame.

Black ops 4, because it was the last cod of duty I was able to dominate with a +2 k/d ratio. Before all the freaking cheating started to happen. It was nice catching people off guard and shooting at them first and getting the kill. Unlike now, where I shoot people first, but they gun me down with less hits, less time, literally feels like they can kill me in a split second. At times, they are able to run away after me shooting them way more than necessary, yet, the second I'm spotted, I'm dead, there's no me running away to cover. They can do cartwheels, summersaults, backflips and gun you down perfectly. They can shoot you across the map with perfect accuracy. They can jump around like morons and gun you down without even having to correct their aim. They have superman split second perfect reactions. That's the best way to describe it, everything they do is spot on perfect. They can spam and spray (no praying) their gun from far away, because they have no recoil or bullet spread. It always feels like I have to aim and also correct my aim when moving around, while these pricks don't have to do the same.

And yes, I know how to play fps games. I dominated many fps games like: Resistance 1&2, kz 2&3, Socom, MAG, Crysis, Gotham City Impostors, blitz brigade etc. all with 2-4 k/d ratio. Kz2 (lag input controls) and resistance (no aim assist in resistance) being the hardest and were the games I reached either close to a 3 k/d ratio or above.

I truly got to enjoy blacks ops 4 and got my money's worth out of it. Afterwords, I would either stop playing cod games after a while, because of the cheating, or would skip buying cod games for a year or two before buying another.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies37d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken37d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing6938d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker38d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo38d ago (Edited 38d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing6938d ago (Edited 38d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos38d ago (Edited 38d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt37d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken37d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

Why MW 2019 is still the best looking Call of Duty to date

MW 2019 is five years old at this point and on previous gen hardware, but it is still the best looking Call of Duty game to date.

MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.

That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.

I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.
