Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty First Impressions

DualShockers writes, "Now let me start by saying that this is not a review and that any of my stated opinions are liable to change since this is only a first impressions piece. With all of that aside, here are some first impressions that I have gotten from Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty. Let’s focus on the campaign, since that is where I feel the bulk of the change occurred.

After completing the first mission, you can immediately see the difference between this new version and the original. To start, you are presented with a semi-interactive bar environment containing a few items with which you can briefly interact. After a few missions, your between mission environment upgrades to that of a battle cruiser with multiple rooms that each serve an interactive purpose. Players can head to the armory to buy in-game upgrades for their units or head up to the bar and see if there are any new mercenaries for hire...."

Game looks great, wish my computer could handle it though.

ThanatosDMC5057d ago (Edited 5057d ago )

My tx2500z with 2.2ghz and a 3200HD crappy graphics card can play it without hiccups on low graphics at 1280x800.

Killing 3,384 zergs on hard mode in Outbreak mission is awesome. It runs even better on my desktop. So your comp should be fine if you really want to play it.

My only gripe about the game is that i cant use the awesome units, upgrades, research, drop pods, bunker turrets, force fields, barriers, hidden flame turrets, special units, etc. that are available on the single player but not playable/deployable in multiplayer...

Starcraft 2 borrowed a lot of ideas from Dawn of War games and Company of Heroes which made the single player super awesome! I love those meteor like zerg pods that drop down from the sky in single player but not available in multiplayer.

I'm going to pick this up. This year the RTS around have been trash. I am excited by the fact that all my friends will be playing this online plus the fact I can sell my own user-created maps on the Battle.net system. I'm also interested in chatting with other Blizzard players.

But seriously, how can this be the only good RTS of 2010? I expected it to be one of the best, or the best, but it seriously has NO competition.

Cheeseknight285057d ago

The game is outstanding. You won't regret buying it.

Godmars2905057d ago

Command & Conquer has been coming out pretty regularly suffering in story and form as a result. People are hungry for Starcraft, and Blizzard's been taking their time to perfect it.

BetaChris5057d ago

Good first impressions. That said, any idea how long the campaign mode is at this point, and more importantly, is there any replayability outside of multiplayer?

skip2mylou5057d ago

blizzard said it depends on how much of a perfectionist you are they said itll be about 40-80some hrs depending on if you want to go through all the story lines

Cheeseknight285057d ago

I played it for about... 5 hours today and finished 6/27 of the missions.

Obviously the deeper the game goes the longer the levels will get. So I would say it takes roughly 25-30 hours.

ThanatosDMC5057d ago (Edited 5057d ago )

If you know Starcraft 1 and Brood War like the back of your hand or your damn good at resource balancing and attacking or just good with rts game, you would want to play on Hard Mode campaign. It'll really pushes you... and you'll love the challenge. I know i have. Havent played MAG for almost 24hrs... that says A LOT! Yeah, im normally killing Valor or Ravens around night time.

Sver FTW!

jupiterBLACK5057d ago

This might be the RTS that gets me back into the genre...

JoelT5057d ago (Edited 5057d ago )

Starcraft...2.....is....so.... good....must....go... back....to.....it......now

Hitman07695057d ago

Don't die please. If enough Americans don't die playing it than we might actually outnumber the Koreans.... MIGHT!!!

Bolts5057d ago

LOL!!

Seriously like all blockbuster games I'm sure it's not that good, but its hard to argue that point when you're up to your neck in hype.

Another L for Xbox, when are they going to have good news?

MrDead21d ago

I would read the article but the giant pop-ups from the top and bottom of the screen made me close it.

Without reading $23.4 million isn't a deterrent for a company that size.

Boss: Let's fire a few people to recoup on that loss.
Slave: Cortana has decided to get rid of Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks.
Boss: Let's get those Firing Letters "Copilot Approved" and send them through the power of the cloud.
Slave: Long Live Phil !!!
ALL in the room: LONG LIVE PHIL !!!!

Well another troll company with a patent trying to extort money out of companies. Seems like they’re going to try and sue everyone.

Not enough drain them for more, fuck Blizzard POS company.

An Update on This Year’s BlizzCon and Blizzard’s 2024 Live Events

Blizzard writes: "After careful consideration over the last year, we at Blizzard have made the decision not to hold BlizzCon in 2024. This decision was not made lightly as BlizzCon remains a very special event for all of us, and we know many of you look forward to it. While we’re approaching this year differently and as we have explored different event formats in the past, rest assured that we are just as excited as ever to bring BlizzCon back in future years."

Diablo 4 storefront being a cash grabbing shitshow does unironically attest to that, kudos.

kythlyn43d ago

Microsoft needs to be guiding Blizzard to be what it USED to be, not allowing it to continue to be the greedy bastardization of itself that it has become.

XiNatsuDragnel44d ago (Edited 44d ago )

Okay i will be interested if they become old Blizzard but might as well be dead.

Rynxie43d ago

They will never be old blizzard. Most of all the OG's left from developers to those on the top (even some decision making folks left).

Vits44d ago

Shame most of the people that made Blizzard what they were, have already left a while ago.

ApocalypseShadow44d ago

I was about to say this. How can they be blizzard when they're no longer blizzard from yesteryear?

blacktiger44d ago

Rare was the thing I lost heart

victorMaje43d ago

Exactly. Blizzard hasn’t been Blizzard for a long time.
Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Knightofelemia44d ago

Blizzard is not the same Blizzard like it use to be.

PassNextquestion44d ago

Were you expecting Microsoft to hire everyone that had left Blizzard long before they purchased the company...

Microsoft has let the Blizzard company they purchased continue to be the Blizzard company they purchased.

thesoftware73043d ago

Wow, PassNextquestion,

You fully understand what that saying means, unlike some people on here who just have to say negative garbage talk.

When someone says, "Just let *blank* be *blank*, "they are just letting them operate how they operate.

It's pretty much how Sony "let Bungie be Bungie."

This comment section is full of outright haters, but you have to "let N4G be N4G"

GamerRN43d ago

This site leans so heavily in one direction...

BISHOP-BRASIL43d ago

I don't think people commenting are necessarily blaming MS for anything here, this is just collective longing for what Blizzard/Vivendi was before Activision's meddling.
