Good thing PS3fanboys are so interested in sales data...The PS3 is leading in sales by 5,000 the week of the "clearance sale." If any of them pondered the FACT that the 360 has outsold the PS3 by at least 50k every month...they might rationalize that a. 5,000 is a very small number b. But remember POG that even at 499 the PS3's price point is Higher than ALL of the 360's 3 SKU's. Meaning that whenever Sony does have a "real" price-drop (i.e. making sure there is always a SKU in the 499 or less pice range) they will be closing the gap despite having a stunted list of games. As more "must have" games roll out it will be even easier to close that gap.

The reason you see a big increase in PS3 is because PS2 owners are upgrading to the PS3.

A 360 price drop may sell a few more consoles but most last gen owners are waiting for the PS3 IMO.

Microsoft lost millions because of large hardware failures and having to put some money aside to cover millions of 3 year extended warranty.

Sony still does not have a machine at the $399 price range Microsoft doesn't need a price the drop.

And they would be stupid to drop the price after the financial disaster that is "Red Rings of Death. Basically this hardware failure thing just was the final nail in the coffin for gaining any advantage coming out a year earlier.

It would have been better to have waited a year perfect or even better Hardware features gave developers almost another year to perfect their games. Gears of War would have been the AAA title Oblivion and Call of Duty probably would have been AAA. Forza would have been really good possibly AAA. At the minimum, Microsoft could have at least had made the hardware more streamline with little maintenance by end 1st quarter 2007. Then Microsoft could have stock pile for six to 8 months while giving developers time to streamline their games.

Basically Microsoft would have had more AAA titles, a smooth running machine, more Launch titles in the Gears of War category graphically, No launch shortages, and perhaps the possibility to internally add HD DVD and keep
the price at $399. Sony and Nintendo would be history.

But at last that is not what happen. In Microsoft's rush they manage to have a mediocre software launch and a year history of hardware failures and eventual extended warranties that costs millions. I am an Xbox 360 owner and I will be the first to admit that Microsoft was right about needing a year head start to trump Sony - IF done right. Well it wasn't done right was it Microsoft.

Microsoft can't afford a price war to slow Sony's roll that will continue through Christmas. The PS3 is good enough to keep its large Playstation community plus the PS3 beats Xbox 360 on Network efficiency but still needs to play catchup on user interface and features but those can easily be corrected/added with addition firmware updates. Give PS3 another year and I wouldn't be surpised if the Network experience will be better overall than on xbl.

So what am I saying is We Xbox 360 users need to admit defeat and face the facts, we will be battling for second place in the console war. In Xbox days, Nintendo had GameCube, so the battle was not really much of a battle for second place. This time Nintendo has the possibility to give us a run for our money.

I personally won't sweat it until Nintendo's momentum surpasses the number of Gamecube users of last generation. There was a lot of disappointed Gamecube owners who defected to Xbox 360. Nintendo was able to replace the lost of these gamers with a new type of casual gamer and curious gamers interested in the new controller. We as xbox 360 users know we will easily obtain the numbers of game owners that Gamecube accomplish last year but Nintendo has yet to prove that this surge of Wii owners isn't just their old user base moving from Gamecube to Wii plus recovering from the lost of gamers who were unhappy with the way nintendo handle the Gamecube (I know, I use to be one of those Gamecube owners). This means we Xbox 360 owners still have a good chance to hold on to second but our real enemy isn't Sony its Nintendo.

Nintendo's momentum right now is way better than what they every had on the Gamecube. We need to make sure that we stay in second place and not be steam rolled this generation. The Battle for second will not be a push over this time around Nintendo is out for blood.

Again, Sony's PS3 is good enough and economical enough to keep a lot if its Huge Playstation user base. That pretty much guarantees Sony a first place. So instead of fighting a losing battle we need to turn our attention to the one Console that has the potential to knock us into third place if we ignore it. We need to stop the useless nonsense of trying to convince people the Xbox 360 is better than the PS3. At the minimum we are equivalent in Power Graphically. In any hardware war with a loyal user base, the hardware that is competing needs to be more than its competitor and I'm sorry but Xbox 360 does not shine over the PS3 so more than likely most of the PS1 and PS2 owner will migrate to PS3 eventually because they are comfortable with the games, hardware, and the community.

This works for xbox 360 as well. Since the PS3 isn't shining over the Xbox 360, yet, there is no reason for loyal xbox 360 fans to jump ship. So pretty much Microsoft should keep its numbers from last year, the only threat to that is the Wii which has the potential this time to over take us for second if we ignore Nintendo.

I constantly see xbox 360 trolls all over several different PS3 forums trying to convince Playstion gamers that the PS3 is somehow defunctional. Well, the truth is that the PS3 is a pretty decent machine. All you trolls need to stop wasting your efforts on Sony forums and concentrate your efforts on convincing Wii owner the error of their ways. (I still believe the Wii is an over priced, over hyped, machine using technology that is way out of date but charging their customers a premium for it.)

There are enough exclusive games on the PS3 that I am very interested in plus I am a blu-ray supporter so it is only natural that I will eventually own a PS3 which unfortunately will only add to the already large Playstation user base. I am not the only Xbox 360 owner that will own a PS3 as well - I guarantee it.

Sony will probably keep the $499 price tag. Remember that there is rumors that a 120gig PS3 is being plan for Europe. It's possible that Europe will get this sku first then when supplies run out on the 60gig PS3 in the U.S., Sony will probably put the 80 in the $499 spot and eventually bring the European 120gig to the U.S. For $599. To keep the ball rolling, Europeans might continually see improvements first before America because there is no room for Sony to really juggle prices. Besides Europeans and Australians have been more supportive than We here in the States have been towards the PS3 so it only seems fair they would get the larger/newer features first. I'm not sure Sony's rotation of sku's will work as most Americans will probably just get the $499 version because the $599 version does not have enough features to justify the price.

Just for kickers; if Sony puts out the 80gig for $499, and the 120gig for $599, is 40gigs worth the extra $100 dollars?

I agree with your thoughts, however as someone who actually sells systems and games I've noticed something crucial. 90% of PS2 owners are not loyal fanboys but casual gamers who bought it because so many of their friends did. These people aren't sitting on their hands either, they are buying Wii's because it is the thing to do. In fact, if trends continue it will be another 2 or 3 years before the vast majority even make a decision. Personaly I would rather my money go to an American company (and yes I know all three systems are made in China), if I was from Japan I would buy a PS3. I say this though I will own all 3 consoles;)

Another reason why it's selling now is because it wasn't selling when it first came out. I'm not so sure about America, but in Europe, it wasn't exactly flying off the shelves. Hell, it isn't even selling that much now. Worldwide, it has only sold 1.3 million units so far this year. The PS3 has sold one million(and by now probably even more) in just all PAL areas in what, 2-3 months.

Bad press about hardware failure, VP leaving, Weak E3 only talking about games we already knew about since last E3 and now to top it off they cancel X07 this year. MS is at an all time low IMO. MS is going to be out of debt with the release of Halo 3 this year. Also, MS put aside a billion dollars to cover the costs, they did not say it will cost them a billion. MS is in a great position to do a price-cut across the board and they need it IMO to get back much lost momentum. Their sales have hit a wall and now they are starting to decline.

I would like to see MS get rid of the Core SKU so the HDD is a standard with the 360 and cut $100 off the Premium and Elite. If they stick to the plan of keeping the Core they need to undercut the Wii by at least $50.

Going by some of the comments already, Sony can`t do nothing right for wrong!!

Some of you part time anlysts are expecting more, some less..........What is "the" figure you were expecting and why? Any increase no matter how big or small is still an increase at the end of the day. Not as many decent games, more expensive than the nearest competitor....yet still sold more for the week?...........In my eyes Sony have done pretty good. The momentum needs to continue now and build up steam ready for the 4th quarter. If i were MS would i be worried? not at all. Sony needs to have this kind of momentum in all territories, maybe then MS may get a bit.......twitchy.

As these would have largely been avid PS2/PSOne gamers, they probably panicked into buying a PS3 which has the emotion engine built-in before that feature was discontinued in the 80GB model, and being €500 as opposed to €600 only sweetens the deal for them. This is clever marketing from Sony, tapping into that niche of fence-sitters waiting for a good reason to upgrade, in a bid to compete with the X360 in terms of software sales this holiday season.

Really, why do you guys even care? you don't get anything if your console (x360 , PS3 , wii) sells more not even so much as a pat on the back.

So why the hell is sales a big deal?!

a) x360 has been out for more then a year, over any of the 3 consoles no sh!t you have 10m units cause everyone wanted something new (ps2 was getting old) an playstation an nintendo had nothing new out yet.

b) The wii, too tell you the truth is killing x360 an PS3 not even killing more like slapping around. when it comes to sales not even a year old anit is about to pass a console that has been out for more then a year (x360).

What is really funny is even after saying this you will still hear "well, x360 is killing ps3" or "who cares about the wii" well guess what the x360 had a big start an ps3 will come up like always an someone must care about the wii it is about to out-sale the x360.

I really do, 'cause the road that sony was on spelled disaster for my ps3 and I dont want to see that happen. Increased sales and install base means less chance the system will eventually go belly up.

Ive been a 360 owner since launch and have loved every day of it. It was the first next-gen system, it has achievements, it has the best console controller ever made (period!), it has Live, and it has exclusive games ill never be able to get on any other system.

I also love my PS3. It comes with so many extras out of the box that if you bought them all seperately for the other consoles you'd need a second mortgage, it has free online services which will only get better with the release of Home networking, and ps3 has the potential to be the most advanced console ever made.

The Nintendo Wii, well, i do love my Wii. It doesnt have the most impressive graphics but, its a blast to play, its great at parties, and chicks love it, strip Wii sports anyone?

Honestly, i dont want to see any of the Big 3 go under. Theres so many mind-blowing games coming out. Owning the 3 systems means I get to play them all!

We will see when NPD releases their monthly figures for USA sales. I would assume that the Ps3 sales would be much higher this month. More in line with 360 sales....at least while the price cut is in effect. If the Ps3 sells any less than 200,000 for the month of July....I don't know if anything can help Sony at that point. I mean what more can they do? They drop the price by 100 dollars and they throw in Blu ray movies....

But come Halo 3.....and all the other AAA games releasing between now and the end of the Holiday season for the 360....I expect USA sales to be a steady 400k to 500k a month. And of course the usual Pre Christmas and Christmas Spike beyond 1 million a month.

A price drop is more valuable for Ps3 potential owners than AAA games.

choice A. Buy a 400 dollar ps3 with no games?

If I've made a comment I've kept a part/most of the comment about the subject matter and only edit normally to correct spelling or grammar. Although I expect this holiday to be close between MS and Sony I believe MS will win by a slight margin due only to Halo 3. After this holiday season and Halo 3, there is no way 360 will be able to keep up with ps3 sales. Their biggest title will have come and gone and ps3 will be hit with Multiple blockbusters (MGS4, Killzone 2, etc) and these will really show the public and not just the online community the "potential" that is the ps3. Finally! lol Congrats to the ps3 for taking its throne back.....whoops forgot about the Wii. To all those saying, oh this is just because of the price drop, uh, no. This is because of the price drop and the very good showing Sony had at E3. This is incredibly evident Internet-wide as this is the first time I've seen for near all the vids and interviews of Sony's most impressive games, the comments sections are filled with at least a good 40-60% people saying "thats it, I gotta buy a ps3 now" Many of these people are former die-hard 360 fans.

Many N4G'ers seem to think that this price cut is temporary. I disagree, here is why. The two SKU scheme will prolly continue, once the 60 Gigs are gone, something along the following lines will hapen: the rumored 40 gig will replace the missing 20 gig model at 399. Meanwhile, the 80 gig model will effectively replace the 60 gig model by price cutting to 499. This makes a whole lot of economic sense and having a machine at the 400 dollar level, combined with the games coming out will do much to drive sales. This is the kind of business model CEO Sir Howard Stringer means when he talks of ongoing "refinements" to price. Believe me, this is a brilliant model.

If the 360 can afford it, it will similarly pricecut. Once this happens, things will be interesting. I do not think that the 360 will die. If it does, it likely wouldn't happen for at least another 2 years at which point the next console will be close to ready for launch anyhow. At this point it seems to me that there is practically no chance that the 360 will outright fail. If it did though, as some intelligent folks have pointed out, it would be disasterous for us gamers as no competition=no reason to innovate.

And Xbox fans are saying "wait till the 360 price drop". Assuming Microsoft will want to afford another billionaire loss, think about it for a second; was Xbox 360 affected by the price drop? It sold 35,000+ this week. Multiplied by 4, that's 140,000 Xboxes sold this month. Roughly 150,000 if you take in mind that months are 30-31 days. Taking in mind all the negative press the Xbox camp has taken, the PS3 "price drop" meant nothing negative to the Xbox camp. It is more market saturated (at that price point), so it's not exactly VERY bad news to the Xbox camp that the Ps3 is outselling it by a small margin; but still, it can't be good though, that it outsold Xbox 360 at that price point and with less games, no VOD service, a less robust online system and in general less content.

However, this was definitely good for the Sony camp. This will mean 200,000 units sold this month. Sales can only increase with firmware updates and games before holiday season. There have been 3.7 million PS3s sold out of 5.5 million shipped (of the older model; new 80Gig model notwithstanding). Part of those 1.8 million that remain unsold are spread between Europe, Japan and America. My guess is that of those, 500,000 remain unsold in Japan, 600,000 in America and 700,000 in Europe (more or less). So, there's plenty of stock (of the old model) to last for three months (assuming demand doesn't grow with Lair, warhawk, socom, pain and heavenly sword; unlikely, don't you think?). Assuming that holds, it'll be July, August and September.

What a total coincidence, October is the month that Home is expected to come out, perhaps firmware update 2.0 (likely), VOD (not so likely but could be), and same thing with GTA4. This could be the month for the price drop of the 80 Gig model. But wait, here's more; since an 80 Gig model is coming out, there are definitely some people out there waiting for it, however few they might be (to give a conservative estimate), that means sales will be even more (which is ironic, considering it's still expensive).

So, after they fase out the 60 Gig model, the 80 Gig model will drop its price in october right before GTA4 is launched. Can Sony afford it? My bet is that yes they can, they've probably moved to the 65nm Cell processor already being in production 3 months ago by IBM, so it's only natural they did. That and maybe a lot of cheaper and/or less parts (no emotion engine, cheaper 80 Gig HDD, and so on), coupled with a ton of games, will put them in-the-money.

So, as I stated above, an Xbox 360 price drop can hardly have an effect in PS3 sales, considering its not as market saturated, and that demand is high for "the new playstation". However, a price drop for Xbox 360 would help it gain a lot of ground. In absolute terms, both will do good. In relative terms, it's better to sell more, but again, if both of them win, in absolute terms, there's not much for us hardcore gamers to worry. And as I've said a lot of times before... with GTA4 (and exclusive content), Madden 08 and Halo 3 on 360, 360 won't need a price drop (unless their sales are deeply affected). If by November Xbox 360 sales haven't increased significantly with the new titles, expect a price drop (and Microsoft better have a "Falcon" to save their asses).

Could Sony drop the price to 399? Maybe. But only if they're too desperate, and I doubt it judging by the market trends. EVeryone, including myself, wanted a price drop to 399. But we were just asking too much, and judging by sales, it wasn't really necessary. Sony is not in a hurry for install base, considering they're seeing this as a marathon, not a sprint. Let's say they do drop to 399... they'd sell through the roof of course; but the losses would be around the same as they were at launch, per consle; except it would sell a lot more, and Sony wouldn't be able to afford it. It would eat their bottomline, and kill the company. And why do it if it's not necessary?

It'll be a great holiday season for all 3. After all, when are holidays bad anyways?

In all reality, believe it or not, there is room for 3 consoles in this world and it's a good thing. You want them to go at it, to do they're best to be "The best" while I don't like 360, it's great competition, because in the end, it's giving us price cuts, better games and more service and that's always good in my book.

Both consoles are awesome. However, most people fail to realize that Sony has over 100 million customers that have yet to make the next gen leap. This just shows, that a tiny price drop and some positive news for Sony can lead to better sales and press than a console with better online services and larger game library.
Ladies and Gentlemen, this is what is called strength of brand and brand loyalty. Sony outsells Microsoft in most territories except for maybe England and North America. However, the Sony Brand is extremely powerful in most of Europe, now Australia and lately South America and the Caribbean.
I have all consoles. Xbox360 is awesome. PS3 is awesome.....The Wii..not so much.
My point is that, if Sony can out sell Microsoft with less games, less online functionality and still a higher price....then beware of PSNation if they do drop their prices further. Besides... Halo is awesome and looks better that Gears of War to me. But Gran Turismo 5...just look at it! AWESOME.

This is one of those things where they made news out of nothing. First Sony dropped the price of the PS3, it’s obvious this would spark a buying frenzy of consumers. This happen every time the price gets lowered for something. The only time this out selling the Xbox360 will be significant is if the PS3 continues to out sale the 360. You do realize that if your down 7,000,000 and you out sell you competition by 6,000, you have 6,994,000 to catch up. For you to catch up you need this to happen for 10 years at a consistent pace. At that point you will only break even.

The 360 in NA is preparing for the Halo effect. And probably people hold their buys for the expected price drop on the 360 and the 65 nm GPU/CPU.

Halo 3 may sell alot of Xbox 360 consoles, but there are also games that will sell alot of PS3 consoles. The new Ratchet and Clank game should sell very well, and sell consoles at the same time. Time Crisis 4 should be popular, as should Heavenly Sword, Drake's Fortune and timed exclusive UT3. Also, GTA IV should sell countless PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

Foresight? No, i'm afraid nothing in life is quite as magical as the ability to predict the future. I'm afraid i'm using pure and simple common sense. The original Xbox increased dramatically in sales at the time of the Halo 2 release. It's pretty easy to confirm that yourself. It goes without saying that the 360 wil also increase in sales, and the fact that it is alot younger than the original xbox was at the time means it will increase far more dramatically than the original did for Halo 2. The increase will be more than enough to clear this "super brilliant 6000 margin".

In response to your edit, I think you need to get your argument straight here. On the one hand you argued that there is no way of knowing how halo 3's release will affect 360 console sales, but you are also arguing that Ratchet and Clank will boost PS3 sales in a comparable manner to the 360 sales boost from Halo.

So when it comes to Halo, we don't have the gift of foresight, but now Ratchet and clank is a console seller equal to halo 3?

Halo 3 has millions of dollars in development cost behind it, is going to inevitably receive heavy advertising, and it's amongst the most anticipated titles of this generation. To be perfectly honest, nothing the PS3 currently has in development will sell consoles as fast as halo 3 this september.

I see. Your arguments focus on my ambiguity. I will speak in detail if you wish.
You've taken to the point that neither of us can predict the future, and therefore all analysis of the outcome of the Halo 3 release are void.
I'm afraid life is not always about focusing on the present. An intelligent person can accurately view the past, compare the present, and produce to a relatively high degree of accuracy a picture of the future. My mistake was speaking in literal terms, when in fact I am simply highly certain of my predicted outcome. So certain, that I cannot fathom being incorrect on this matter.
In order for me to find uncertainty in my prediction, I would require reasonable doubt. Doubts which your arguments have not even come close to providing.

The games you have mentioned may sell many copies, but in order to sell systems a game must be atractive enough to the consumer to provide the balance of their conviction to buy that console. In other words, seeing that game must make the consumer say "I actually do want that console", whether on its own or in addition to any number of factors.
I certainly do not feel these games you listed fulfill that condition, at least not to a satisfactory extent to compare it to a game with the consumer effect of the Halo series.
In conclusion. No factors currently known to me give me any reason to doubt the 360 will outsell the PS3 after Setember 25th.

Just something I noticed that you obliquely implied in post 135.3; do you believe that Halo 3 will sell more than GTA IV? I'm frankly surprised at your own conclusion that GTA IV is not a console seller. Halo 3, while it will sell, will be just thrown to the side when GTA IV is released. For if the GTA games are good or bad(I myself have always found the GTA games to be the latter quite frankly), they'll sell by the truckload, even more than Halo 3 will. Of course, if you were just referring to the exclusive games I listed, I understand.

My answer to that one is complicated.
On one hand, I had not included Grand Theft Auto in my assessment as it has been scheduled for release a month after halo 3.
But to the question, do I believe halo 3 will sell more than Grand Theft Auto? Yes, and no. Halo 3 is highly likely to sell more than Grand Theft Auto on any one given system, that is it will in all probability sell more than Grand Theft Auto on the 360, and more than GTA on the PS3 individually.
Combined, however, GTA has a better chance of surpassing Halo 3 in sales... but I have no evidence to back up which will sell more.
As for can GTA sell many consoles, in most likelyhood, yes. However it is likely to sell equal numbers of consoles on both systems. a sells spike isn't surprising considering the week past week the PS3's been having:

1st a price cut to $500 (which considering all the things that are being included in the box, make it even more of a bargain that it already was).

Then a strong showing at E3 (in particular, the Killzone 2 trailer living up to the hype more than not, and MGS4 looking spectacular also).

much like it's predecessor (albiet with slightly more of a rough start), the PS3 is slowly building steam, while systems that were hot right out of the gate may start to experience a cooling period.

The Playstation 3's fall lineup, and the revealed 2008 lineup thus far, are making people plunk down the dough to secure a console now, so they'll be able to afford all of that hot software later.

i know that's why *I did it. i wouldn't have been able to afford a PS3, and all 15-20 titles releasing for the platform fall 2007, *AND spring for a fancy HDTV to enjoy it on, so i got the PS3 in February, and the HDTV in June, just in time for games like Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and upcoming games like Lair, Warhawk, and Heavenly Sword. now that i've got the hardware out of the way on the console and TV end, it's all about buying games for me. the only downside is that the Samsung i got is now $300 cheaper. ah well, thems the breaks.

i'm glad Sony's building an audience, as the PS3 truly is a great, reliable piece of hardware, and it'd be a shame for such a quality device to go to waste.

i could care less if it outsells the 360, as long as it's selling, which will encourage more developers to invest time and money into bringing games to the platform.

It's pretty normal to get a sudden surge in sales from a price cut. 6000 more sales is nothing to be excited about. Sony is still about 7 million behind the xbox 360.

But I'm sure Microsofts' recent billion dollar loss for repaired 360s messed up their plans for a price cut. I'm sure they were ready to match Sonys price cut before the billion dollar loss. Oh well...atleast we still have HUGE games coming around the corner. That should easily beat out the ps3 in sales again.

Apologies for not explaining why I'm complaining.

I have not flamed, spammed, insulted anybody except sonylesbian in response to a nasty private message they sent to me. If I've made a comment I've kept a part/most of the comment about the subject matter and only edit normally to correct spelling or grammar. My comments pages are only about 3 -4 tabs so all of what I have inputed is easily analyzed. I am a Sony fan and stay away from MOST of the 360 news and hope that this isn't the reason I've lost a bubble as the bubble system isn't very transparent.

I think everyone was expecting (at least I was) PS3 sells to go up on the week of E3 and the price drop. Honesly I was expecting sales to be a lot more. and maybe they are... I rather wait for NPD numbers instead of VGCharts which we have no Idea where they get their numbers from... After so many good news on the PS3 camp and so much bad press about the xbox 360(ring of death, poor E3 performance(as some people say) price difference between the elite and the PS3 only like $30.... I was expecting more than 5,921 difference... I know it's a great jump for the PS3... but these numbers seem too low... I was expecting the PS3 to sell at least 100,000 and beat the xbox 360 3:1 during that week. Who knows maybe they did and the NPD numbers will show that... or the PS3 will continue to sell during the following weeks.
I was also expecting the xbox 360 sells to sink hard.... and they seem to be stable... which show that a price drop or the release of "falcon(new sku)" would do some serious impact on console sells.
I think microsoft is sitting on the fense to see how well Sony is doing under their best circunstances... and how bad they do under their worst before making a move.

Sony's price-cut did work, as it spiked the sales of the PS3. whether that price-cut is temp, we can only speculate. I don't see why this thread has over 200 posts. I don't even think, when the Wii outsells both, Sony and MS consoles, we get a thread like this. I guess less wii fanboys on here.

Of course, not so much of a difference but some, that have been on the fence arenow waiting to enjoy games they seen at E3 or playing some old ones.

The funny thing is, there wil be a thread like this next week, and the weeks after. Some of these sale numbers can be useless, unless it's over a good period of time, not like one or two weeks. A lot of people forget that the Xbox 360 continues to sell still without a "price-cut", If there was a $100 price reduction, we would see the same sales spike as the PS3, it's that simple and very predictable.

Man this will go back and fourth. I guess it's been a while sony fans had something to cheer about when it comes to sales, so enjoy, boast or whatever you wanna say. There is not much to say, week after week when its a measly thousand units. There is no trend yet.

The PS3 price cut was the factor here, that's all, there is to it. I'll leave it at that. Asking Sony to cut the price of the PS3 $200 after one year, sorry is not going to happen.

I wish it would but from a business POV, it wouldn't make sense, even if the competitor is cheaper. you and I know you get more for the price of the PS3 then you do with an Xbox premium.

Whoever wins there will indeed win the war, because their is no other time when consumers buy systems. So starting in Nov. If the PS3 is out selling Xbox 360 then they really will go one to win this thing.

But just outselling it this one month does not truly mean the War is over or that the tide is changing. Remember Halo 3 has not even come out yet.

If that game turns out to be a system seller as predicted, Xbox 360 might just have it's knight in shining Armor. Only time will tell.

Theoretically this should've happened sooner with all the hype behind the ps3. The fact that it hasn't says something about the effect that price and lack of games can have on a system (duh). A price drop, along with Ninja Gaiden Sigma has helped ps3 sales. A price drop along with games like Bioshock, Mass Effect, and the granddaddy of them all, Halo 3, will boost 360 sales.

The sad thing is, I think some people may be waiting for a ps3 because of brand recognition, and not taking into account the amount and quality of games that the 360 offers over the ps3.

I guess people really were waiting on a price drop and more games before they bought a PS3. I can't wait to see if it is sustainable next week. Their aren't many game coming out until August so it will be interesting. Only thing new is All Pro Football and NCCA Football. Next five months is crucial to all the consoles success, except Nintendo because they are Safe from failure at this point.

Hey i'm one of those that bought a PS3 just last week. And it is a good system i just like the 360 better.I'm no fanboy either i have the Wii,360,DS lite and now the PS3. I was a little upset when i found out i couldn't buy and extended warranty from Sony that really sucks. And i was more upset that when my controller dies if it's after the one year warranty i'm stuck buying a new one.So besides this i would recommend anybody picking it up if you a gamer and if you can afford it.If you can only afford one then go with a 360 better warranty and better customer service.They pay for shipping both ways Sony doesn't.Oh one more thing that i didn't care for was the Sony controller it's cheaply made. That said there are positives and negatives for all the systems so do you research and chose the one that is better for you.If you can afford all then go for all of them competition is good.

I came across this site and have found this to be the most informative source for my gaming info. It's a shame so much fanboyism has to happen on here, but it's bound to happen. So, I look forward to commenting and what not with all of you!

I also own all 3 systems. I got a 360 at launch, I am now on my 3rd one now however. But I don't complain cause they have replaced them all, every time. Can't complain if it's done for free. I honestly love my 360 and the games Im really wanting are mainly coming out for it. You can find me on live as Xbox360Me. I got my Wii a few months back and I've been mad at the slow output of good games for it, but I feel I own the main 3 good ones for it = Twilight Princess, Resident Evil 4, and Super Paper Mario. Im freaking addicted to SPM right now like no other. I as of 2 weeks ago have joined the PS3 camp as well. It wasn't even that the 60 gig dropped to $500 that got me to get it. But it was the added bonus deal through my Circuit City that easily influenced my purchase. I got the 60 gig PS3 for $500, but for free with it I got a 2nd controller, Resistance, and 5 free Blu-Ray movies of my choice. I ordered online to get the 2nd controller, 5 Blu-Ray movie deal... but did a in-store pick up to get it. I went to the store my friend works at to pick it all up but then I noticed the in store special was to get a free game. The Blu-Ray offer was a mail one, but my buddy honored it for me in store. So I left with my flicks that night. In the end I got both promotional deals to work in my favor it was sweet. Since then I've picked up Motorstorm and am looking forward to Lair next month. I really even enjoyed the E3 trailers I got off of PSN, Killzone 2 anyone? You can find me on PSN as SeanKWD.

I went to my local EB Games/Gamestop store and saw a big sign stating the Ps3 is now 499.99. I asked my relative who is a manager there if the sales have picked up since the announcement. He told me not at all. He told me the sales are the same and they still have a lot of Ps3's to sell.

I then went to Walmart and low and behold....there were many ps3's in the casings.... I thought I saw somewhere that they were sold out at walmarts...when I asked the guy in the video game section about that...He laughed and said..."no, we have many in the back".

I then went to Best Buy to pick up the new blu ray movie for my Ps3...Premanition....and once again...there were many ps3's out on the floor. I asked him about the price drop and if sales have increased....He told me that sales have remained slow. I told him about on the internet there is hype going on about the Ps3 being sold out everywhere. He told me that he thinks that its a failed effort by Sony to generate some sort of false hype. Then he told me the Ps3 sucks....Of course I defended the Ps3...Because I don't think it sucks....I just think its over priced. If the ps3 sold for 299....I believe it would be a better value and irresistable for Most Gamers. But 499 nad 599 is too much for a console that doesn't keep up with the 360 at this point.

I then purchased NCAA 2008, came home and played it. Its amazing folks. It runs at 60 fps and 1080p on the 360. I read in a review that the ps3 version only runs in 30 fps and its not nearly as pretty as the 360 version. Once again...why pay 500 to 600 dollars for a video games console that doesn't compete with the 299 to 479.99 console?

In my opinion thats whats hurting Sony. Its not a bad system. Its just not worth the purchase for "MOST" gamers. Notice I said "MOST". I realize that there is a market...Like myself...who money isn't a problem and we don't want to miss out on some of the Sony exclusives...But I also realize that "WE" are the minority. And I could care less who wins the console war in regards to sales. I'm just thankful that I won't miss out on any "Next Gen Games".
