IGN: Skate 3 Review

Skate 3 is by no means a disappointing addition to the series, but those who sunk their cash into last year’s Skate 2 really don’t have much of a reason to take the plunge here. Thankfully the gameplay is still the most impressive virtual representation of skateboarding around and the new audio treatment will delight fans of the series.

i will have to buy Skate3 since all the time i spent on the demos is clearly a good indication of how i love the games.

i honestly think skate, skate 2 and skate 3 are my most played demos EVER right after BF1942 wake island demo....so i think it say alot.....

all i have played was the demo but as a skater i think that this is the best addition to the series. it just feels a lil more real this time. makes it where you cant pull off rediculous 2 mile grind/manual things around a hangar lol.

I've always been a fan of Skate so I'm gonna rent it from Gamefly. I can't say I'm surprised about the score though, I didn't expect any huge improvements, just little tweaks here and there.

Def picking this up when the price drops a bit. Never did get a chance with Skate 2 due to the high volume of games at that time. I'm glad I waited.

This was absolutely one of the worst review jobs I have ever seen IGN do. Did they even play the game? There has been low and high camera angles since the original skate. Not to mention the great lack of talking about Port Carverton. What a piss poor review job! Guaranteed the reviewer sucks at playing and just became frustrated.

The demo is great and I see this as a great game but with all the AAA games like Alan Wake and Red Dead Redemption coming out around when this does, its kinda hard to digest this review as a reason to buy it.

This is what Skate 2 should have been. For those of you curious, this game has corrected the off-board running by foot controls to be fluent and easy to control as you would normally expect. That was one of my biggest probs with Skate 2 although was a great idea.

Another thing, they greatly improved on the bails and added almost a game inside a game specifically using bails.. can be AWESOME fun especially with the community driven features.. there are going to be some pretty entertaining media uploaded on to that community server thing they have going.

These aside, gameplay is the same so if you're a fan of skate definately pick this one up.. I already traded in skate 2 in anticipation of this being the only Skate game i play from now on.

Just wanted to add.. I heard there was a park editor in this one? I know they tried some simple things with Skate 2 where you could move elements around but after MNR and LBP2 I almost expect there to be a solid editor in a game like this LOL. play create share?!

Areas in each level can be turned into your own personal park of sorts. You can add ramps, rails, beams, and various other objects to stick that gap or grind that ledge that looks so tempting. This is more of a step forward than Skate 2, especially saying as though this is not a retread of the same city, but an all new city created to skate. They have improved the off-the-board movement...and you can even beat up (with your board) those pesky pedestrians that screw up your perfect trick by walking into your path when you are trying to land.
I am excited but can't afford to get it until next month!

Also as a skater, I'm glad to see that they incorporate some flat land tricks, plus they made it much more realistic (at least there's an option for it).

Skate will always be better than Tony Hawk just due to it's realism imo.

Feels like theyre finally getting it right after the floaty physics and sketchy animations in Skate2 that led to me avoiding a purchase. I loved the hell out of Skate, still play it.. and this looks like it will earn my dollars, given what I played in the demo.

I just wish they had an even more hardcore mode, as the physics were still a little light on the hard mode. Definitely not bad, but it would be nice to take it further still.

i personally think the physics is what they mainly improved on. when you put the realism up. i mean it is like 10x harder to grind now which i do like. in the other two you just ollie anywhere near a rail and BOOM you grind. in 3 you really need to line up for the grind.
