PS5 Was The Market Leader In Unit & Dollar Sales For Q1 2024 And March In US

Mat Piscatella of analyst firm Circana has revealed that the PS5 was the market leader in North America for both unit and dollar sales during not only March 2024, but the first quarter of the year as a whole.

Writing on Twitter, Piscatella revealed that spending for video game hardware in February 2024 dropped 32% in comparison to the same period last year, totalling $391 million. In addition, spending for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch each fell a minimum of 30% year-on-year.

What will happen when Sony announce a new Uncharted, Killzone, Tsushima or Horizon ..

ChronoJoe15d ago

Ah yes, Killzone that'll light the world on fire.

I'm joking but I do wish it were likely or more popular.

shinoff218315d ago

I'd rather an upgrade over some fps personally. Like a true rpg not some action game with a couple of rpg lite mechanics in it.

Jingsing14d ago

To be fair Sony usually know when to let a franchise go dormant, They gave Killzone over 6 different games and it never reached that summit. You end up in a situation like Microsoft if you just keep hammering out Halo and Gears and Forza etc. Microsoft should be smart enough to let them games go.

I thoroughly enjoy my open world games, but highest interest will always be the shooter genre lol it's just something about a good well crafted shooter with lore to it something like the Max payne series

Somehow I doubt all of that spiel.

ravens5214d ago

Lmao. Perfect example of the denial.

Hofstaderman15d ago

But PS5 and Switch still outsells XBOX embarrassingly even with overall consoles sales decline.

Giga_Gaia15d ago

At this point, I think PS5 and Switch sell more in one month than Xbox does in an entire quarter...

Ironmike15d ago

Stop being sad mt just enjoy ur console of choice and just accept there's not only ps5 in the world

Released on Pc after 4 years and at 60$ price currently have 57k players, now imagine if it was released day one like Helldivers 2 almost 460k players! on steam alone sony need to think again.

Lightning774h ago

Very high demand for Sony games on PC. This is a good thing.

Storm233h ago

Would you go same day release for PC with the PS5? Or do you think 6 months would be ok? We can all agree, I would think, that 4 years is way too long.

shaenoide2h ago

Releasing day one means no need to buy a Playstation and Sony losing 30% of each games sold.

Chevalier2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Its a Sony game publisher by them so it's 100% on console not 30%. If they release on Steam they Steam takes 30%

DaMist2h ago

@chevalier that's what shaenoide meant, releasing they one, they would lose 30% of each game sold on steam on top of some people not needing to get a console

outsider16242h ago

Releasing day 1 on pc. Why would you need a ps5 then. This strategy is doing Sony's business better.

notachance1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

Why? Delayed release means there’s bound to be people who double dipped and buy both version, especially single player games which is often one and done. Simultaneous release works for multiplayer game riding the hype train, that’s why helldivers 2 is successfull as it is now.

Why do you think Rockstar always released a game for console first and then PC way later? Double dip is the key. Although that can only work if the game itself is amazing: GTA V, RDR2, Horizon, GoW, now GoT. I reckon if forspoken did that it won’t turn out the same..

I have it on PS5 (never played it it’s in my collection) but I want to play it on PC. But I will wait for it to get below $30.

Storm233h ago

I played it on PS5 and it was fantastic. I'm sure the experience on PC will be incredible. I hope there are some significant upgrades (if possible) to an already beautiful game.

neutralgamer19921h ago

I love sucker punch they are very underrated. I hope the rumor about a smaller team at SP working on a new SLY is also true

Goodguy013h ago

Very good pc port. Some things here and there but very excellent. I stopped playing the game back on ps4 as I got burnt out but now I'm very ready to play through the whole game this time and in glorious 1440p and unlocked framerate. I suggest turning off AA and any upscaling, game looks beautiful.

Magatsuhi2h ago

Thought Sony ruined the game? That's what many youtubers said.

UltimateOwnage2h ago

Sony has been doing fantastic PC ports that leverage the benefits of the platform, but also allow them to scale to even handheld PC’s like the Deck. It’s awesome to see them do PC ports right.
