PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S Sales Comparison - February 2024

February 2024 is the 40th month the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 5 when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S by 0.93 million units.

In the last 12 months, the PlayStation 5 has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 14.00 million units. The PlayStation 5 is currently ahead by 27.43 million units.

They are outselling xbox faster than Xbox sells. In other words, PlayStation is selling more than double what xbox sells every month.

Gosh, I was so sick of teraflop talk from 2019-2020. The truth is teraflops don't matter, just games people want to play. Teraflops doesn't sell hardware, games do. Its such a simple concept to figure out. Xbox Series was the first console in history to release with zero new games. ZERO! It was so obvious from the start that this generation for MS was going to be an embarrassing dud. I was laughing internally every time people said that MS has "learned from last gen" and that they were going to do better. But the launch showed us everything we needed to know, their first party studios are in complete disarray, and these sales numbers back that up.

Microsoft starting the next generation within the next 2 years feels too soon (assuming its true, though perhaps its not), I don't think they realize that it doesn't matter if they don't have the software to back up it. Perhaps they think all those Activison / Blizzard games are going to save their next console?
