Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Review [Capsule Computers]

Travis of Capsule Computers writes:

"Looking back, it is kind of difficult to believe that it has been nearly fourteen years since a fully realized entry in the Prince of Persia franchise has been released. Sure, there have been efforts to remake one of the original games only for it to land itself in developmental hell and in many ways, Ubisoft’s own Assassin’s Creed franchise has taken on parts of the series’ mantle. Still, there was always something charming and endearing about the history of the Prince of Persia franchise and now being able to once again return to this storied series with a brand new metroidvania entry hopes to be a delight. Are these hopes dashed upon the sands or is Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown a worthwhile entry in the franchise?"

Interview with Abdelhak Elguess and Mounir Radi, Developers Behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

WTMG's Leo Faria: "Oh, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. What a lovely little surprise you were, right at the beginning of the year. Without a doubt, one of the best metroidvanias in recent memory, and one of Ubisoft’s best titles of the past couple of decades. It, alongside games like Hi-Fi Rush, Assassin’s Creed Nexus and Helldivers II, showcased what I hope it will eventually turn into a trend of big name publishers focusing less on overbudgeted AAA experiences, and more on mid-tier gems meant to cater to a specific audience with no unnecessary monetization schemes on the side.

I played The Lost Crown to death when it first came out, but I kept thinking about it long after beating it. I wanted to know more about its development cycle. I wanted to discover how and why its developers decided to revive a long-dormant franchise, whilst turning it into a 2D metroidvania. Luckily, I was able to do just that. I was able to have a quick chat with two members from Ubisoft Montpellier, who were kind enough to answer some of my questions: Mounir Radi, the game’s director, and Abdelhak Elguess, its producer."

platinumed the game, so I might consider the DLC in case its not a cash grab. I really hope the game sold more than the mentioned 300k copies.

Free DLC is always positive.

Paid story DLC just makes me want to wait until everything is released and then pick up a Complete Edition.

I'm glad the game has done (critically) well. Probably should have sold a bit more, but perhaps Ubi didn't expect the game to do so well in the reviews that they skimped a bit too much on marketing, or too many folks soured by Ubisoft over the years now refusing to pick up their games at launch/full-price ...
