Black Myth: Wukong – The First Hands-On Preview

Since Black Myth: Wukong released its first trailer three years ago, every year on August 20th, the developer Game Science has shown something new about the development progress of the game. However, what's different this year is that we finally got to play it.

Positive review looks good. However I withhold my hype train due to all previews being positive as a form of marketing and also for journos to continue getting privileged info. If a game got a less than praising preview it would mean the game is a train wreck. I'm cautiously optimistic though on this game.

jznrpg287d ago

Redfall had a lot of positive previews some even were calling for GoTY from the previews lol. And then it released and was garbage of the decade from a major studio. So I get what you are saying.

repsahj287d ago

Wow, looks really really good! I hope the controls is great like elden ring.

S2Killinit287d ago

Personally, I have yet to see a chinese game actually deliver what it promises. Therefore, Im not going to believe it until it comes out and proves it. Otherwise, its not for me.

Good-Smurf286d ago

You missed Genshin Impact 86 metacritic.

repsahj286d ago

The only difference this time is that IGN actually tried to play it.

Sonic1881287d ago

Gameplay looks like Dark Soul's, Devil May Cry, and Final Fantasy 16 all in one

Eidolon287d ago

FF16 was supposed to be Fantasy May Cry, no?

CrimsonWing69287d ago

I have to admit, I was expecting a significant downgrade in the final product, but this looks good. Can’t wait to check it out.

repsahj286d ago

Same with me. I hope the final product will be this good or better.

MeatyUrologist287d ago (Edited 287d ago )

Looks really good, but not sure I can get over the fact you can only use a staff. The moves look great and all, but lets be honest, staffs are typically the least used weapon in games that offer them. Not sure i can go from games with dozens of swords, axes, and maces to just using a hunk of wood the entire time.

Obscure_Observer287d ago

"Looks really good, but not sure I can get over the fact you can only use a staff"

Who told you that we can only use staff?

Ryan said in the video that more weapons available in the final game remains unknown.

MeatyUrologist287d ago

Ok guess I could be wrong, but he specifically mentioned one of the things that sets it apart from souls games is that those games offer many different bladed and blunt weapons whereas this one focuses on the staff.

It seems odd if they offer many weapons that every single bit of coverage of the game focuses solely on the staff. I could see potential ranged options maybe but I would be surprised after seeing this much staff that we would find out there is actually a decent selection of other weapons.

Rocketisleague286d ago (Edited 286d ago )

In sekiro you could only use a sword? I'm not a fan of being a monkey myself but i'll give it a shot. Sekiro kept it fresh enough with the sword only.

FF16 only has a sword too.

Anyway, they went for a soulsbourne style game here, atleast combat wise - not sure about the rest.

Soulsbourne as a genre really needs a new name

RedDevils286d ago

Magic Monkey always known to used the magic staff which get bigger or longer or smaller.

IIRC I think the game is mostly boss fights, like a boss rush mode or Shadow of the Colossus. I would imagine From could do 80 boss fights in a souls game if 90% of the enemies were bosses lol.

Double_O_Revan11d ago

That's what I felt when I watch the trailers. It will be mostly boss fights or sub boss fights. That's still cool. I love Shadow of the Colossus. I don't need a million little enemies. Just the vide I got from the trailers.

gold_drake13d ago

huh.

for some reason, i thought it was out already haha

anast12d ago

You might be thinking about "Wo Long Fallen Dynasty".

Double_O_Revan11d ago

I've made that mistake many times. Almost even bought it when it showed up on sale a few weeks ago. Had to look it up to be sure.

potatoseal12d ago

Wow. This is really shaping up to be a special game. Hope that turns out to be true

TheProfessional12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

Happy this isn't vaporware! That is a lot of bosses though I wonder if some are randomly generated?

rpvenom12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

It won't be randomly generated. A lot of it is based on chinese mythology.

They probably reduced the cannon fodder enemies and mini-bosses to hit 80+ bosses.. is my assumption.. but I really hope I'm wrong and we get a action rpg masterpiece. Been anticipating this game for a long time.

UE5 with a 60fps option. I can't wait

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH46d ago

Definitely picking this up day one on PC. Hopefully all the gameplay videos aren’t smoke and mirrors.

Sonic188146d ago (Edited 46d ago )

That should always be your first choice if you own a medium to high end PC especially for multiplatform games

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH46d ago

I wouldn’t say always but ever since I bought a new PC it definitely has been. I’m a console guy and I always will be but I’ve been shifting into PC lately.

Markusb3346d ago

yes please, this is the one game i am looking forward to after Stella blade this year, hope it plays like the videos suggest

Miacosa46d ago

AuraAbjure46d ago

They really trying here. Respect.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH78d ago

I really hope this game is not just a “boss fight” type format and more of a Souls format. I have seen demo’s of the game where the player was running through a level but I’m still not entirely convinced. I’d like to see a full level of raw gameplay. Either way it’s a day one for me on PC.
