So much for the concern trolling about UK retail figures cut to make it look like a bust. This game is doing great in terms of sales, critical and user acclaim - and deservedly so. Roll on FFVII Rebirth!

gold_drake337d ago

yea it was quite odd to compare a 2016 game with a 2023 game.

especially when there are more digital purches nowadays.

they really made it look like it wasnt success at all lol

Just linking it here so that y'all can scroll and see who is absent in this article lol.

"especially when there are more digital purches nowadays."

Apparently that isn't a valid "excuse" even though it's true.

Lightning Mr Bubbles337d ago

Regardless of sales, I honestly had mixed feelings for most of this game, but then the ending absolutely destroyed me... I rank it as my 3rd favorite Final Fantasy game behind only FFX, and FF7 Remake.(I never played the original FF7)

Lightning Mr Bubbles337d ago (Edited 337d ago )

I'm not sure why the disagrees, are people saying I shouldn't have mixed feelings about it? The ending didn't destroy me? It should be my #1 Final Fantasy game?

Don't say what you really feel and keep comments all positive, if you don't want disagrees, I guess.

MrNinosan337d ago

Why do you care abou agrees/disagrees, when everything at N4g is about to please the right people (if you aim for agrees).

And it's probably not that you rank FFXVI at third that got you the disagrees, more likely that you didn't play FFVII.

Anyways, do yourself a huge favour and never care about the up/downvotes.

DickyD1226337d ago

I haven't beat it yet. But, I rank this right behind 12 for my favorite.

FF16 also is in my top 3 ff game with FF7 and FF9. This game is a keeper.

ravens52337d ago

FF 7,9 and 10 are the best; to me lol. 16 is great, I haven't beat it yet. A certain someone just got their hands cut off. But ye this game makes me smile. Love when games can draw emotions from me, that makes them true wonders.

refocusedman337d ago

I haven't finished the game yet but I'm having mixed feelings as well. I'm enjoying the story but, the lack of enemy variety, the absence of rpg elements, and the empty world or fast travel is underwhelming. it's a pretty good game, but not a good final fantasy rpg game.

Crows90337d ago

So you make an opinionated comment and you're surprised some disagree with you? Did you got 3 disagrees...nothing to cry about.

They disagree that it's 3rd place not that you can't have it at 3rd place for yourself personally.

ppl buy names, not games

sadraiden337d ago

Who cares how its sales are doing? As a consumer, your job is to consume. The profits of Sony and SE are irrelevant.

Too bad the ps5 couldn't grab 1st from consoles sold this week, I was sure the system would have beaten the switch, but alas. Maybe next time

ZeekQuattro337d ago

Just shows you how competitive the Switch continues to be despitecits advanced age. Even with mutiple big releases under the PS5's belt since TOTK dropped the Switch is still able to claim the number 1 spot.

ZeekQuattro336d ago

@Crow90 So you're saying FF16 and SF6 aren't big releases for the PS5? 🤣

Moegooner337d ago

Japanese love handhelds. Even if they are subpar like the Switch.

Kneetos337d ago

I think the Japanese just like Nintendo more, being a handheld doesn't have much to do with it

badz149337d ago

it's Japan, man. console gaming plays 2nd fiddle to handhelds and mobile over there. the amount of effort Sony has put so far to keep the PS4 and now PS5 relevant is nothing short of amazing. They just kinda squeezing themselves into the market over there that is dominated by Nintendo. poor MS and xbox though...it's totally not their fault they can't do better over there. but truth is, no matter how hard they try, the most they could do is cause a blip on a radar for a short while and then poof, gone!

Kneetos337d ago

While it is true that handhelds do better in Japan, I still hold the belief that if the switch was a home console but had the exact same support as it does as a hybrid it would still outsell the PS4 and ps5 as Nintendo has had much more success then Sony in japan

I don't know about ''great'' rpg.

Most epic fight sequences and presentation? Yes

Worst side quests ever? Yes
Boring traversal? Yes
Empty worlds? Yes
Demo is infinitely more mature than the actual game? Yes
FF16=MMO side quests + Devil May Cry Lite

Alos8840d ago

I'd give it the great part, it's the RPG part I find dubious.

EternalTitan40d ago

There is no Roleplaying/decision making in this game.
No crafting there isnt even character builds because just like Dante/Bayonetta Clive has all skills and loadouts available to him.

CrimsonWing6939d ago (Edited 39d ago )

What do you mean there’s no role playing? Also, I’m fairly certain I made builds with Eikon abilities and I’ve gone to the blacksmiths to literally select craft weapons and gear. 🤷‍♂️

EternalTitan37d ago

How many 'builds' can you make?
Weapons and gear only increase numbers. Tell me about elemental weaknesses and status.

CrimsonWing6937d ago (Edited 37d ago )

@EternalTitan

Elemental weakness isn’t an RPG defining end-all-be all element.

What statuses are you asking about? F*cking status buffs and debuffs? You talking about stats that increase with gear crafting? Because all that’s present in the game.

The fact that you even admit there’s builds and RPG elements contradicts your claim. No matter how limited they may be, they exist in the game, therefore it is an RPG. I think the correct critique is instead of claiming it’s “not an RPG” you really mean to say it’s an RPG not as in-depth as it’s contemporaries. Regardless, it’s an RPG nonetheless even without “elemental weakness” playing in combat.

EternalTitan35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

@CrimsonWing69
"Elemental weakness isn’t an RPG defining end-all-be all element"
Why not?
Where is your source for this?

CrimsonWing6935d ago

@EternalTitan

So you’re telling me if a game has all the elements and mechanics of an RPG except elemental weakness exploits in combat that they’re not an RPG?

C’mon man, how about you show me where it says an RPG must have elemental weakness mechanics?

Let’s be honest, this isn’t a “great” RPG. I am in the camp that it IS an RPG, no DMC game I’ve played is designed like this… but in terms of being a great RPG… well, I much prefer the RE-Trilogy over this.

That being said, I do think the DLCs have probably the best boss battles I’ve played in a game. Omega was crazy and the battle theme just amplified that for me. In the other hand, I’m struggling to think of a game that has a boss battle as great as Leviathan. Like, I played it on FF mode and it was sooooo intense and just a gorgeous and fun experience. The music was also top notch!

However, I really disliked most of everything of FF16. The Benedikta arc was fantastic, but after that the game was boring and a slog to get through. I think the boss battles were the best parts, but also inconsistent for me. Bahamut was peak for the base game, but everything else didn’t surpass that experience until you play the DLC bosses.

VersusDMC40d ago

The 2 DLC's were great. 2 new eikon ability sets (leviathan and...) and a survival/bloody palace mode with Rising Tide were great as well.

repsahj40d ago

The Base game is already great for me IMHO and the 2 DLC will even make it better.
