These Eikon battles look pretty awesome. I won't deny that the Pheonix fight is straight-up built on the framework of the GummyShips in KH though. That made me chuckle a little bit.

Omg I wanna be so hyped for this game. That damn battle system ewww

MrNinosan388d ago

That damn battle system, wow 🥰
I want to be so hyped for this game, and sure I am!

Obscure_Observer388d ago

"That damn battle system ewww"

I understand the direction they´re heading since SE is trying to bring both new and the original audience to their new game.

My issues with the combat in this game is the unnecessary flashy effects for every single swing of sword and the fact that the main character seems to be way overpowered and simple can´t be defeated, which defies the purpose of the stagger feature that only makes things worst, looking like lynching.

Sonic1881388d ago (Edited 388d ago )

You're one hilarious individual. I agree with you about the stagger feature and I bet you're hoping this game has a worse review score than Redfall 😄

shinoff2183388d ago (Edited 388d ago )

The stagger feature is overused imo it got old in ff7 remake, I think your absolutely correct in the flashyness of it. It's a huge turn off. I call it over the top. It doesn't need to be so damn extra. For me it's bad enough not being turned based.

Look ff would sell no matter what the combat is. Turn based or action. I'm not hyped for it at all but I'll give it it's fair shot down the road. Hell maybe please both bases. Do both as an option. If they can do dq11 definitive edition old school look and new school it's not impossible.

northpaws388d ago

Wow, so the complain is the main character looks to powerful? that's new.

I am sure all these complains have nothing to do with the game not available on a certain console. I am 99.99% sure. /s

shinoff2183388d ago (Edited 388d ago )

Northpaw,

My complaints are just that my complaints. I say that as a ps gamer.

Sonic

There's no way ff16 scores lower then redfall I don't think a first party game from Sony will ever score below that.

a7madRyan388d ago

In the end its you who will use them, just choose and use the abilities with simple effects

I can't get excited for FF games anymore, especially after the last 5 or so games, but I've always hated the stagger system since they first introduced it in FF13, I wish they'd drop it, but they're hell bent on keeping it in their games.

Anyway, everyone knows, this game will sell like crazy and get the best ratings and reviews based on pedigree alone, doesn't matter if SE makes a mess of it or not.

Honest question Shin, would you be ok with the new direction of FF (active) if Square committed to remaking 1-6 turn-based? As a follow up, if so, what aesthetic would you prefer - modern visuals a la 16 or something like Octopath? Or is this a rigid view that FF should remain turned based no matter what? No wrong answer amigo

Curious because I've seen this over the years here, most famously with Resident Evil. How do companies modernize their IPs in order to attract new customers yet retain the existing ones if the change is drastic? I think Nintendo has the right idea. And old guard companies like Square, Capcom, & Sega as examples should've taken note by now. Mario and Zelda have flip flopped between 2D and 3D effortlessly over the years because the quality is there in production.

Would you be ok with the new direction of FF if you knew a classic turn based FF1 remake was right around the corner?

@Shinhoff2183
Is it really bad though? I’m giving it a chance regardless as this is my current most wanted game after having visited Japan.

I don't know about ''great'' rpg.

Most epic fight sequences and presentation? Yes

Worst side quests ever? Yes
Boring traversal? Yes
Empty worlds? Yes
Demo is infinitely more mature than the actual game? Yes
FF16=MMO side quests + Devil May Cry Lite

Alos8839d ago

I'd give it the great part, it's the RPG part I find dubious.

EternalTitan40d ago

There is no Roleplaying/decision making in this game.
No crafting there isnt even character builds because just like Dante/Bayonetta Clive has all skills and loadouts available to him.

CrimsonWing6939d ago (Edited 39d ago )

What do you mean there’s no role playing? Also, I’m fairly certain I made builds with Eikon abilities and I’ve gone to the blacksmiths to literally select craft weapons and gear. 🤷‍♂️

EternalTitan36d ago

How many 'builds' can you make?
Weapons and gear only increase numbers. Tell me about elemental weaknesses and status.

CrimsonWing6936d ago (Edited 36d ago )

@EternalTitan

Elemental weakness isn’t an RPG defining end-all-be all element.

What statuses are you asking about? F*cking status buffs and debuffs? You talking about stats that increase with gear crafting? Because all that’s present in the game.

The fact that you even admit there’s builds and RPG elements contradicts your claim. No matter how limited they may be, they exist in the game, therefore it is an RPG. I think the correct critique is instead of claiming it’s “not an RPG” you really mean to say it’s an RPG not as in-depth as it’s contemporaries. Regardless, it’s an RPG nonetheless even without “elemental weakness” playing in combat.

EternalTitan35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

@CrimsonWing69
"Elemental weakness isn’t an RPG defining end-all-be all element"
Why not?
Where is your source for this?

CrimsonWing6935d ago

@EternalTitan

So you’re telling me if a game has all the elements and mechanics of an RPG except elemental weakness exploits in combat that they’re not an RPG?

C’mon man, how about you show me where it says an RPG must have elemental weakness mechanics?

Let’s be honest, this isn’t a “great” RPG. I am in the camp that it IS an RPG, no DMC game I’ve played is designed like this… but in terms of being a great RPG… well, I much prefer the RE-Trilogy over this.

That being said, I do think the DLCs have probably the best boss battles I’ve played in a game. Omega was crazy and the battle theme just amplified that for me. In the other hand, I’m struggling to think of a game that has a boss battle as great as Leviathan. Like, I played it on FF mode and it was sooooo intense and just a gorgeous and fun experience. The music was also top notch!

However, I really disliked most of everything of FF16. The Benedikta arc was fantastic, but after that the game was boring and a slog to get through. I think the boss battles were the best parts, but also inconsistent for me. Bahamut was peak for the base game, but everything else didn’t surpass that experience until you play the DLC bosses.

VersusDMC39d ago

The 2 DLC's were great. 2 new eikon ability sets (leviathan and...) and a survival/bloody palace mode with Rising Tide were great as well.

repsahj39d ago

The Base game is already great for me IMHO and the 2 DLC will even make it better.
