Jedi Survivor's 150GB File Size Has Totally Put Me Off It

DS: “Although the PS5 comes equipped with a bountiful 875GB SSD, only 667.2GB is actually available for use, as the rest is dedicated to the system, so what seems like nearly 1TB actually swings closer to 'a bit over 500GB.' This translates to Star Wars taking up at least 22% of the total storage capacity, or one-fifth of the entire drive space.

Is Star Wars Jedi: Survivor doing something wrong or investing its size in the wrong place? Probably not, and I can't help but feel a bit sorry for the developers who have to compete under an ever-growing pinnacle of excellence, dependent on high-resolution and complex 3D textures (as well as uncompressed audio files) that make up so much of the size of any game.“

So just try and finish it quick so you can uninstall and get the space back. Really a non-issue unless some reason you plan on having it installed forever?

XbladeTeddy402d ago

How do you enjoy a game if you're trying to finish it quick?

rippermcrip402d ago

I think focus on it instead of finish it quick is a better way to look at it. Don't go off playing a bunch of other games while this sits there taking up storage if that is a concern for you.

Focus on it, finish it and uninstall it.

FinalFantasyFanatic401d ago (Edited 401d ago )

I think this just furthers the argument that this game is horribly un-optimized, I've read reviewers who are having trouble running this game at 4K with a 4090, especially since it also likes to gobble up all the Vram, ALL of the Vram.

GoodGuy09403d ago

As AAA games get bigger and more graphically impressive, it's what it is. Either invest in big drives or delete and make space for them. Been gaming for a long time and knew it's always been a problem since the ps3 days, finally invested in big drives and no longer have that problem.

badz149402d ago

Still though...with advance compression tech and fast SSD in todays consoles, 150GB screams "unoptimized"

luckytrouble402d ago

Indeed, the tech exists to at least mitigate this issue, even if we aren't at a point where it can be outright solved yet. This is a game that needed more time in the oven.

i have 1TB of internal and 2TB expansion card and run of of space many times. i would upgrade but xbox allows max of 3TB

Eidolon402d ago

I have 1TB internal on my PS5 set for PS5 downloads, and my console storage is purely for games I'll keep for a very long time so I don't wear out that TBW, then I have a 2TB external to swap out PS5 games(or play PS4 on) when I need them, as re-downloading would take 10x+ longer.

siLENTEsKI402d ago (Edited 402d ago )

@eidolon you’d have to write ~80GB of data every single day for 20 years to reach the TBW rating for the console (internal) storage. I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

FinalFantasyFanatic401d ago

I'm pretty sure I have a 4TB external and a 1TB internal for the PS4, meanwhile my PC has a pair of 6TBs, one day I'd like to buy a 4TB SSD and move all my games to it.

FinalFantasyFanatic401d ago

I know storage is cheap AF these days, but 150GB is a ridiculous amount of data for just one single-player game of this type, that's almost 1/5th of a terabyte right there.

Moegooner403d ago

Better looking open world games with similar environment variety required much less space. No thanks

StarkR3ality402d ago (Edited 402d ago )

Visually speaking this is one of the best games I've seen coming out this gen. Please state which games you're refering to as I'm happy to be proven wrong, but you're just talking twaddle in my opinion.

XbladeTeddy402d ago

It's the textures that cause it. They've gone all out on texture work.

StarkR3ality402d ago

Exactly mate, horizon forbidden west was 100gb or there abouts and that was a cross gen title still, the best looking game this gen but still cross gen. The sizes are only going to balloon further with time. Shit Red dead 2 was 150gb and that's not even had a current gen patch so.

ufo8mycat402d ago

Not sure what the problem is?
Capacity : 667GB
Jedi Survivor: 150GB

TIP: Stop keeping games installed on the PS5 that you are not currently playing. There is no point.
Plug in external hard drive -> transfer games not currently playing. Problem solved.
It’s not rocket science

EvertonFC402d ago

Bingo, we have a winner, I have 5 games installed which I play every day/week on my PS5 GT7,PGA tour golf 2023, rocket league, Efootball and Returnal with 3 PS VR2 games also installed HCOTM, RES:Village and NMS and still have 100gb left to spare.
Not sure why gamers want 20/30 games installed.

I Hope 2024 Isn't As Bad For PC Ports As 2023 Was

Ahmed from eXputer writes "The quality of PC ports has been seeing a severe decline recently, and many gamers have had enough."
