Isn’t that kind of what State of Plays have done in the past? Give a good portion to unveiling gameplay for an exclusive?

Lightning Mr Bubbles418d ago (Edited 418d ago )

I'm sold already. They don't need to show anymore. In fact I've avoided watching some of the previous videos that showed gameplay against boss fights. I don't want to get to that part and be like "Oh yeah, this is the part from that video, I already know exactly what happens."

I was sold since the moment it was announced because it's called Final Fantasy. I buy every mainline Final Fantasy game on day 1.

Will I watch this event? Maybe a little but I don't want any spoilers. When it comes to JRPG's I'm all about the Waifus, so I'm especially curious about Jill Warrick and what kind of relationship she has with Clive. From what we've seen so far, it seems they've been friends since they were teenagers.

CrimsonWing69418d ago

@Lightning Mr Bubbles

I hear ya, man, and while I was sold just by the title alone, I still want to see so much more to help make the waiting less painful and set the hype levels through the roof.

I don’t mind seeing things and then playing them. It’s one thing to watch and it’s another to play, in my opinion.

i just hope this delivers and blows all my expectations out of the water. I still regard 6-9 to be the best in the series. I'm hoping I can add this to the list.

shinoff2183418d ago (Edited 418d ago )

Agreed Crimson

6 through 9 are top notch ff s for me. They still haven't been able to recreate the magic and whatnot of what those titles felt like. I specifically like 7 and 9 the most but 6 and 8 aren't no slouches

Flawlessmic418d ago

No love for 10 guys? :(

Agreed though 6-9 are brilliant also.

Ff9 and x are my favourite though

S2Killinit417d ago

Will be only my second FF ever. Im already sold on it. Looking forward to this though still.

Personally, I don't think we need this. Should've been for Spiderman or something we haven't seen. Square just did their own.

derek418d ago

One doesn't preclude the other.

Christopher418d ago (Edited 418d ago )

June of last year was the last state of play. I think Sony fans deserve to see what's going on with Sony, not Square. And you can say "you can have both" but this isn't that. It's just Square.

Edit: Ah, right, there was one in February. Stand by "where are your games Sony?"

VersusDMC418d ago

@Christopher

The last state of play was in February.

Vengeance1138418d ago

@Chris

What's going on with Sony is Square. FF16 is one of the biggest games of the year, just doing nothing until late June would be highly unwise.
At this point both are one and the same as they refuse to work with Microsoft. So when you say fans deserve to see what's going on with Sony, well we're getting exactly that.

Hofstaderman418d ago

I think we seeing the beginning signs of the rumoured Sony Square acquisition.

418d ago
derek418d ago

@Chris, Sony is not limited to a certain amount of State of Plays per year, ff16 has just recently gone gold so it is the final push before launch in June. I'm sure there will be a State of Play exclusively for SM2 this fall closer launch as well as a 2nd trailer this summer.

Sony doesn't start showing gameplay and promotions for major releases until few months from release.

The rumors are Sony will have a showcase before the whole SGF. So expect Spider-Man as well as other big titles probably late May or the first week of June.

FF16 is already done and it releases sooner. Might as well get this show done first and save a slot for another big Sony title at their showcase late on.

DarXyde418d ago

Why? I feel like there's still a ton of mystery around FFXVI.

I_am_Batman418d ago (Edited 418d ago )

Then don't watch it. FFXVI is probably the first true system seller for the PS5 and it releases at a time where the consoles are starting to accumulate on the shelves for the first time since it released. This just seems like a pretty obvious marketing opportunity.

They've been holding back updates on 1st party stuff for a while now. I think it's a relatively safe bet to assume that they're planning a big event to blow the lid on that and properly introduce the current-gen phase (end of cross-gen).

Imagine not having a giant event and getting dedicated events to the things you want to see as they come out and people complain.

Christopher418d ago

***the things you want to see***

Opinions, amirite?

Some people will complain when they find out water is wet. It’s just how they are.

JEECE418d ago

"A Special Look at Final Fantasy XVI."

I take from this that I should expect the announcements that Sony purchased Take-Two and that GTA VI is PS5 exclusive, that Bungie is developing a new PS5-exclusive multiplayer shooter, and that Bloodborne 2 is coming out this fall. If any of these reasonable expectations are unfulfilled, this event will definitely be "meh."

derek418d ago (Edited 418d ago )

@JEECE lol, you're not far off, expect one of those garbage insiders to say how they heard Take 2 is going to be there as well as From software with big announcements.

Hofstaderman418d ago

Oh yes, please. We might get some new info, maybe even a new trailer.

I don't know about ''great'' rpg.

Most epic fight sequences and presentation? Yes

Worst side quests ever? Yes
Boring traversal? Yes
Empty worlds? Yes
Demo is infinitely more mature than the actual game? Yes
FF16=MMO side quests + Devil May Cry Lite

Alos8840d ago

I'd give it the great part, it's the RPG part I find dubious.

EternalTitan40d ago

There is no Roleplaying/decision making in this game.
No crafting there isnt even character builds because just like Dante/Bayonetta Clive has all skills and loadouts available to him.

CrimsonWing6939d ago (Edited 39d ago )

What do you mean there’s no role playing? Also, I’m fairly certain I made builds with Eikon abilities and I’ve gone to the blacksmiths to literally select craft weapons and gear. 🤷‍♂️

EternalTitan37d ago

How many 'builds' can you make?
Weapons and gear only increase numbers. Tell me about elemental weaknesses and status.

CrimsonWing6937d ago (Edited 37d ago )

@EternalTitan

Elemental weakness isn’t an RPG defining end-all-be all element.

What statuses are you asking about? F*cking status buffs and debuffs? You talking about stats that increase with gear crafting? Because all that’s present in the game.

The fact that you even admit there’s builds and RPG elements contradicts your claim. No matter how limited they may be, they exist in the game, therefore it is an RPG. I think the correct critique is instead of claiming it’s “not an RPG” you really mean to say it’s an RPG not as in-depth as it’s contemporaries. Regardless, it’s an RPG nonetheless even without “elemental weakness” playing in combat.

EternalTitan35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

@CrimsonWing69
"Elemental weakness isn’t an RPG defining end-all-be all element"
Why not?
Where is your source for this?

CrimsonWing6935d ago

@EternalTitan

So you’re telling me if a game has all the elements and mechanics of an RPG except elemental weakness exploits in combat that they’re not an RPG?

C’mon man, how about you show me where it says an RPG must have elemental weakness mechanics?

Let’s be honest, this isn’t a “great” RPG. I am in the camp that it IS an RPG, no DMC game I’ve played is designed like this… but in terms of being a great RPG… well, I much prefer the RE-Trilogy over this.

That being said, I do think the DLCs have probably the best boss battles I’ve played in a game. Omega was crazy and the battle theme just amplified that for me. In the other hand, I’m struggling to think of a game that has a boss battle as great as Leviathan. Like, I played it on FF mode and it was sooooo intense and just a gorgeous and fun experience. The music was also top notch!

However, I really disliked most of everything of FF16. The Benedikta arc was fantastic, but after that the game was boring and a slog to get through. I think the boss battles were the best parts, but also inconsistent for me. Bahamut was peak for the base game, but everything else didn’t surpass that experience until you play the DLC bosses.

VersusDMC40d ago

The 2 DLC's were great. 2 new eikon ability sets (leviathan and...) and a survival/bloody palace mode with Rising Tide were great as well.

repsahj40d ago

The Base game is already great for me IMHO and the 2 DLC will even make it better.
