Final Fantasy 16 Has To Be PS5 Generation Only

Final Fantasy 16 is new-gen only because its combat system relies on the memory and transfer speed of the PS5 system.

Jin_Sakai461d ago (Edited 461d ago )

Good! It’s time to leave last gen behind. The game looks amazing.

fr0sty460d ago

I just hope there's no future plans for a Xbox One S version. X only, sure, but MS won't allow that.

Flawlessmic460d ago

There's no way old gen consoles are pulling this game off.

And lol Ms doesn't have a say cause I don't think any of there consoles are getting the game series s or x, well as it stand right now anyway.

DarkZane460d ago

The Series S and/or Gamepass are definitely the reason why Xbox isn't getting this game, not because Sony cut an imaginery deal with Square-Enix for permanent exclusivity. That is all in Microsoft's head and they claimed that without proof in their stupid crusade to try and get ABK.

By the way, apply that to all other games like FF7R, Forspoken and SH2.

Eonjay459d ago

Did you mean Xbox Series instead of Xbox One?

If that's the case it still wouldn't happen. Unfortunately you gotta support both. As much as I understand wanting it to focus on the X, how would Microsoft absorb the backlash of nearly half their player base (maybe more).

"If we didn't have the memory that the PlayStation 5 has, and also the transfer speed of the SSD that the PlayStation 5 has, we would still be in development right now"

This implies that it probably would be very difficult to make for the Series S at all. He also stated that the game will come to PC but not anytime soon. He wants it to be the very best it can be on PS5 and he stated that the optimization period for PC would be a long one.

fr0sty459d ago

Yes, I meant to say series S... and I know, that's why I said MS won't allow that, which is also why it is holding our generation back, as has been proven by the multiple games that have skipped Xbox or delayed Xbox releases due to not being able to get certain features working on the last gen console in a current gen costume.

In the past I would have thought it'd be a timed exclusive but given Forspoken and a few other recent SE missteps I wouldn't be surprised if Sony has stumped up a lot of funds for FFXVI's development.

The series started drifting away from the classic formula with FFXII and while I don't think any of the later Final Fantasy games I have played were average I do feel some are massively overhyped by some people for what they are.

It's probably for the best this is a timed exclusive at least as it'll hopefully mean less tech issues on launch too. It would be a shame if SE stopped developing their own tech and moved to Unreal like an increasing number of developers are.

Adrian_v01459d ago

Funny, while I don't think any of the pre FFxii games were average I do feel some are massively overhyped for what they are.

I'll be honest I I had to choose ff16 over starfield I'm picking starfield. Ff has long changed what I loved about them. I haven't truly enjoyed a ff game since 10 and maybe ff7 remake but I've had a love hate relationship with it due to the battle system. That's just me though. Maybe ill enjoy ff16. Time will tell

With that said I don't buy ps consoles for ff it's the variety and exclusives.

Say goodbye to JRPG for Final Fanstasy

Flawlessmic460d ago (Edited 460d ago )

After finally getting the chance to read all the previews and watch all the new footage, ff16 went from tied most wanted with sm2, forza, starfield and Totk to straight to the top of my most wanted list.

It's literally looks insane, god of war levels insane if not more so, iv been saying that creative business unit were going to knock this out of the park but man it's starting to exceed even the high expectations I had for this already.

The last FF I truly loved was x and this is so far from that type of game yet I'm so goddam ready for it.

I just hope fans of ff don't hate on this cause it's not traditional, I mean I get it i feel the same, but this just looks so insanely good and devs behind it are super talented and they are showing it again.

Love that this game is truly based around eikon/aeons/summons or whatever else they have been called story and gameplay wise.

The thought of using and having proper massive battles against some of my favourite aeons is gonna be so sickkkk.

This is what our new consoles should be giving us, that feeling of excitement!! More games like this pls!

Only 3 more months to go!!!

I've been a Final Fantasy fan since the original and have played every entry through to completion. I know for a fact this is going to be amazing. Full confidence in Yoshi-P's team. It's so exciting knowing they're working on a full-scale singleplayer experience. Can't wait to see what they do with their storytelling combined with spectacular visuals.

Sirk7x459d ago

RE4 next month, Jedi Survivor in April, Tears of the Kingdom in May and then FF16 for June. Oh man.

gold_drake460d ago

im glad its current gen only. let it take advantage of the ps5 :)

Snookies12460d ago (Edited 460d ago )

As stated by everyone else, so far... I'm so damn glad they decided to keep it away from being cross-gen. I've had full faith in this from the very beginning. I know FF XVI is going to be incredible. I can almost guarantee this is going to rival some people's long held favorites of the franchise.

I don't know about ''great'' rpg.

Most epic fight sequences and presentation? Yes

Worst side quests ever? Yes
Boring traversal? Yes
Empty worlds? Yes
Demo is infinitely more mature than the actual game? Yes
FF16=MMO side quests + Devil May Cry Lite

Alos8840d ago

I'd give it the great part, it's the RPG part I find dubious.

EternalTitan40d ago

There is no Roleplaying/decision making in this game.
No crafting there isnt even character builds because just like Dante/Bayonetta Clive has all skills and loadouts available to him.

CrimsonWing6939d ago (Edited 39d ago )

What do you mean there’s no role playing? Also, I’m fairly certain I made builds with Eikon abilities and I’ve gone to the blacksmiths to literally select craft weapons and gear. 🤷‍♂️

EternalTitan37d ago

How many 'builds' can you make?
Weapons and gear only increase numbers. Tell me about elemental weaknesses and status.

CrimsonWing6937d ago (Edited 37d ago )

@EternalTitan

Elemental weakness isn’t an RPG defining end-all-be all element.

What statuses are you asking about? F*cking status buffs and debuffs? You talking about stats that increase with gear crafting? Because all that’s present in the game.

The fact that you even admit there’s builds and RPG elements contradicts your claim. No matter how limited they may be, they exist in the game, therefore it is an RPG. I think the correct critique is instead of claiming it’s “not an RPG” you really mean to say it’s an RPG not as in-depth as it’s contemporaries. Regardless, it’s an RPG nonetheless even without “elemental weakness” playing in combat.

EternalTitan35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

@CrimsonWing69
"Elemental weakness isn’t an RPG defining end-all-be all element"
Why not?
Where is your source for this?

CrimsonWing6935d ago

@EternalTitan

So you’re telling me if a game has all the elements and mechanics of an RPG except elemental weakness exploits in combat that they’re not an RPG?

C’mon man, how about you show me where it says an RPG must have elemental weakness mechanics?

Let’s be honest, this isn’t a “great” RPG. I am in the camp that it IS an RPG, no DMC game I’ve played is designed like this… but in terms of being a great RPG… well, I much prefer the RE-Trilogy over this.

That being said, I do think the DLCs have probably the best boss battles I’ve played in a game. Omega was crazy and the battle theme just amplified that for me. In the other hand, I’m struggling to think of a game that has a boss battle as great as Leviathan. Like, I played it on FF mode and it was sooooo intense and just a gorgeous and fun experience. The music was also top notch!

However, I really disliked most of everything of FF16. The Benedikta arc was fantastic, but after that the game was boring and a slog to get through. I think the boss battles were the best parts, but also inconsistent for me. Bahamut was peak for the base game, but everything else didn’t surpass that experience until you play the DLC bosses.

VersusDMC40d ago

The 2 DLC's were great. 2 new eikon ability sets (leviathan and...) and a survival/bloody palace mode with Rising Tide were great as well.

repsahj40d ago

The Base game is already great for me IMHO and the 2 DLC will even make it better.
