Here's your look at the teaser trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the upcoming animated film from Universal Pictures and Nintendo.

I follow box office and get a general sense of what will do well. While Top Gun came out of nowhere… I can tell you now that this will become the second highest opening weekend for a animated movie.

The animation is fantastic, seriousness/goofiness ratio looks fantastic, and Illumination always makes fantastic games. Jack sounds awesome as bowser and other voice caters are great… but Chris takes me out of it. Still, hoping that’s just for a short period.

Worldwide overall: $1.3 Billion only behind Frozen 2

This is how you treat video game IPs. Warner Bros could have turned the Mortal Kombat franchise into some huge if they knew how to use it… like many other franchises. Nintendo awesome as ever!!

Yeah, I wish the ones disagreeing would state why. This movie is going to be huge. Hopefully they then move forward with other IPs before we get a Smash movie.

Yeah Mario's voice is the only negative from this trailer. Looks like it'll end up being good despite that.

Why couldn’t they use the game voice actor for this animated movie for both the main characters, the princess voice no one care but the main 2 it’s a missed opportunity by just throwing famous names in there 😢.

I thought that was weird, because Jack Black is clearly throwing his voice somewhat and doesn't sound/act similar he does in other movies he's acted in, actually surprised at how well Jack Black does Bowser.

I was expecting a somewhat, Italian accent, even a poor one from Chris Pratt.

He's going with a bit of a Brooklyn accent in the spirit of "Super Mario Brothers Super Show" from the 90's. You know that marios hyper squeaky italian voice from the games would never fly in a near 2 hour full length feature. People would claw their ears out. Trust me, nintendo knew Chris Pratt's voice going into this. They are very intimately involved in making sure this goes right. They don't want to get outdone by Sega.

Imagine the dirt Chris Pratt must have, to be so absolutely terrible and I genuinely mean awful at his job. Yet manage to regularly be pushed into leading roles.

My biggest gripe is that alot of Actors tend to have the same personality, or acting in every movie they're in, Ryan Renolds, The Rock, Chris Pratt... I still like those actors, but it's like inserting that actor into a movie, not having the acting play that movie's character if you understand what I mean.

The trailer 'Looks' awesome, and will surely be highly successful. But Chris Pratt sounds awful based on what's on show here. Why cant they just work with an actual Italian voice actor? I'm not sure how Pratt (based on his previous work) is the guy to play Mario's voice here... other than simply the name being well known and looking better on paper.

While it looks visually better than expected, I have a slight problem with the tone, there's a bit of a realistic art style in their design, it had these epic-style music which betray the theme of Mario, then it looks like it's trying to be serious with comedic subtext instead of the opposite, and then there's Chris Pratt that doesn't look like he's trying, you have people making shorts of Charles' voice instead and it sounds infinitely better

Chris Pratt sounds terrible as Mario. It’s clear they hired him only for his name to sell tickets. What they should’ve done is hired someone who sounds like the 90s cartoon Mario.

Looks amazing and I’m sure it will be a fun movie. Jack Black with some fancy editing makes a great Bowser voice. Chris Pratt having an ordinary American accent as Mario just comes off weird.

Perhaps a controversial opinion, and I say this having liked a lot of movies that Chris Pratt has been in, but perhaps Chris Pratt just isn't that great an actor. He just doesn't have the range to lean into some characters like others (e.g. Jack Black) does. He plays everything I have seen him in the same way, as him.

I have no idea what everyone's talking about Chris Pratt sounds fine, he has a slight New York accent that matches very well with a realistic version of Mario, its better then the old 80's/90's cartoon/live action shows and nowhere near as annoying or goofy as the squeaky video game voice where he says like 4 or 5 words a game. I think a lot of y'all don't like Chris Pratt for some reason.

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show was brilliant and ahead of it's time I believe. For those who don't know, it was based on Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 2. The Adventures of Super Mario 3 cartoon series was my favorite though. They also had a cartoon series based on World. It's obvious the majority on here didn't watch those as they prefere the modern more annoying, squeaky voice of the videogames.

Completely agree with you. In the game Mario doesn't talk very long but in the movie, he talks like a normal character like how Bowser talk in the game. It seems to be more annoying to hear if he has an Italian accent throughout the movie.

the trailer made me laugh ha especially the toad bit. and it looks rly good too.

but .. im still not sure about Chris Pratt voicing Mario. CP is not known for his wide range of characters he portraits. its always the same in any movie or voice role hes ever done.

id rather have him being voiced by someone else, or even by the official mario voice.
