Meta Quest 2 Pricing Changes

In order to continue investing in moving the VR industry forward for the long term, Meta will adjusting the price of Meta Quest 2 headsets to $399.99 (128GB) and $499.99 (256GB) starting on 8/1/22.

Just glad I got mine earlier this year at Gamestop with trade credit for 299, was the latest revision. It's gotten so much use. I'm def ready for the PSVR2, going to pre-order for sure.

I'm trying not to be but I'm still bitter after they started selling the Rift S in 2019 and then announced it was being discontinued in 2020/2021. Of course I bought it before the announcement. I have not been super happy with these guys...

What a hilarious read. Imagine if sony announced the ps5 was getting a hundred dollar hike and used the same lines meta is using to defend it. Tech doesnt appreciate with age so im not sure why they think this is a wise move. Perhaps they should just make a quest 3 and sell it at those prices… but what do i know?

It's funny because they were originally selling at a loss. So was the original PSVR but in about a year Sony broke even and prices fell pretty quickly.
But reading in to what Meta said... This is to finance the development of their next headsets and the meta verse. That's right, they are raising prices to finance the meta verse.

Yeah somehow im having trouble with that line too. I’m currently building a data center for meta. Money is not an issue for them so im not sure why they are leaning on old hardware to finance new hardware. Thats not how things work when youre a company that huge. Its not how things work for small companies either.

Hard to defend this move aside from greed.
Usually price goes down with time or a better version is offered for the same price. Now it’s basically a price hike because Meta wants to charge more.

Let’s hope that consumers answer properly by not buying the headset at that price.

Inflation, and the fact they were already selling at a loss is to thank for that. While I don't agree with it, I do understand why they are doing it. Anyone who wanted a quest already has one, it reminds me of a Kickstarter where the original backers get a discount to find the project and late adopters have to pay a higher fee for whatever was being created.

Saw this on VR sites. Lol. Greed. Those investors were like, "stop subsidizing to get gamers. Take their money." That's not a good look.

They're just making PS VR 2 look more and more like the one to get even if it comes out at $499. If PS VR 2 is $399, it's the headset to get. It'll have the tech, the power and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd parties to back it up. That's not even counting over 25 years of franchises to draw from.

This probably has to do with the removal of the Facebook account link and Meta no longer having an immediate reason for investors to subsidize the cost.

100 USD price hike does not seem justified. No change to the hardware. Normally prices get cheaper with time, this is an odd one.

Glad I got mine at $299 last year. I'm hoping PSVR2 is priced at $300-$350 to take more Market share from Oculus. I prefer to have a proven game company pushing VR gaming than social media gurus.

I don't see this price hike going over well or lasting long, sales will falter and they will revert it back to the original prices. This is just a test like when MS tried to increase the Xbox live price..failed badly.

I think they are just looking to launch quest 3 early next year ,if they tell everyone quest 2 will be $399 next year they will sell existing quest 2 stock quick before price increase then launch quest 3 at $449 too making it look more attractive to the consumer being only $50 more
