Square Enix is bringing Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion to all modern platforms and while they call it a remaster, it is nothing short of a remake.

It's because the naming convention they used for FF7 with Remake is more of a reimagining/pseudo-sequel.

Square really doesn't understand what's a remake and what's a remaster. They've been using "remaster" for everything since this word became popular.
Well, except for FFVII Remake, which wasn't a remake but a pseudo-sequel. Which proves that they really don't know the meaning of these words.

I think it’s so simple since a remaster is literally a port with upscale textures and better frame rate.

I mean, people know there’s a Last of Us Remastered (it says it on the box), but they still refer to the new Remake as a Remaster.

Same with a Crisis Core Reunion, it’s a Remake not a Reamster. All assets are remade from the ground up in a new engine for chrissakes…

I assumed the FFVII Remake was a remake when I first saw it

I played it and realised it wasn't

So this could easily end up linking in with the ending of the VII Remake

It's between a remake and a remaster because the graphics are pretty different, as are the voices, but it mostly seems to be shot for shot, ad it looks like it plays exactly the same.

This definitely is not a remake build from the ground up. You can see everything is exactly the same size and is in the exact same place. In a full remake that would not happen.

What they did do is reworked the models, changes little things like windows and different lighting. I'm pretty sure they copied the code to a different engine and polished it from there on. Let's see what Digital Foundry has to say on this.

It's a remake but only to PS3/360 level graphics. Mid tier remake. It is definitely not on par with FF7R.
This better be 40 max.

I’ll be playing with Japanese voice and subtitles for sure. You had no right to ruin the amazing sound we already had. Many of the people who want to play this are diehard fans of the original. Your BS excuse for the song being the reason why y’all never did a rerelease went right out the window.

Because I look at it and I think too it's a Remake but I read somewhere that since it's built up exactly as is, then its a remaster and not a remake.

But I'm not an expert. Looks awesome though! Looking forward to it! :D

Most likely it is a Remake, specifically because of a few things, the naming 'Reunion' is similar to FF7's Remake and Rebirth, most likely it'll be told differently (or at least end differently) to tie in with the Remake/Rebirth story

People are going to be pissed if it ends any differently. My thoughts on it are...

I honestly think Zack is still dead in the Remake. Seems more like alternate timelines, or time travel going on centered around Aerith in particular. In fact, the ending of FF7 Remake showed that Zack is a "whisper". The scene where it showed the whole party seeing Zack's last stand. Definitely indicates that he is in fact dead in Remake. The Zack we see carrying Cloud and surviving at the end is from another timeline. Based on Aerith's dialogue and body language in various parts of the Remake. It's quite clear that Aerith knows the events of the original game. Meaning, she knows how she will die, and how things end with Sephiroth already. Just a matter of them explaining exactly how she knows, and why she knows.

- Yes there are 2 timelines
- Zack did not die in the past this time around as is shown by him returning to the Church wanting to meet Aerith (at the end of the DLC)
- Zack is also dragging Cloud in the new trailer beyond a point he was supposed to live so he is most definitely alive in his 'past' timeline
- White feather in the new trailer indicates that Angeal might actually be a part of Zack's 'new' alive timeline we'll probably play him similar to how FF8 has Laguna sections.
- Expect appearances from other CC characters as well.. like Genesis (I would love to be wrong but it seems pretty likely, might be part of Rebirth's DLC though).
- 'Present' timeline Aerith is very aware of the direction things are heading, will try to alter course (same as Sephiroth) however in Zack's timeline she might be dead (which is why the people in the church are crying and the flowers have withered* this is a big nod towards that)

I could go on and on but there's a lot that indicates CCR will just like Remake, have a different spin on it's story otherwise they would have named it a Remaster or something along those lines + it gives them more storytelling opportunities that they want to plant in there rather then in Rebirth's story, tons of reasons really.

"The game has been fully redone with upgraded visuals from the characters to the environment." - When I read that part I said wait a minute, that's NOT A REMAKE, that's a REMASTERED version.

but after reading the second sentence - "This is not the extent of changes, as the company went even a step further and has rebuilt the battle system."- then O saod to myself Yeah that's a remake alright.
