Diablo Immortal’s director comments on microtransaction ‘misinformation’

Amid criticism of Diablo Immortal’s approach to microtransactions, the game’s director has suggested that some negativity around the game is “based on misinformation”.

Bit of a leap saying I'm defending Diablo Immortals when I'm not, might want to get a grip yourself there buddy. My point is everyone is treating it like it's a AAA release with MX. It's not. It's an F2P mobile game and you're actually surprised it has MX? What planet have you been living on? You're actually expecting a totally free new Diablo game? Ive put 170 hrs into gt7 and havent spent an extra cent, car collection is at close to 300, gold on every world circuit event, working my way through the missions now.

Sounds like ur the one that hasnt played it, the only thing that is out reach in this game is literally a handfull of cars that are priced at 20 mill.

Not quite the same as pre-ordering, but people were able to pre-register for this game for a while. People should've known this game was going to be Microtransaction heavy. The real question was just how much.

And the waiting a week after any game, regardless of paid or free, to see the reactions of its audience and learn more about what the game truly is.

Its because the gamers of those other mobile games are willing to settle for less. Those gamers strictly follow all systems they are placed into.

Its becuase Diablo franchise was popularized by pc gamers since Diablo 1.

Now we have AAA name game with a huge fanbase, reduced to a mobile game.

Devs dont have to make the effort anymore and people will settle for less and they are already settling for less. Look at many games over the years.

The only way to send a message is for a large amount of people to just stop playing. They don't care about a bunch of babies who cry on the internet while still playing and potentially spending money, however little or much. Let their player statistics plunge and they'll get the message. Whales serve them no purpose if a huge majority of their player base vanishes overnight.

It's a fact that it is pay to win to an absurd degree. On top of the pay to win cycle, it also has a gambling aspect to it and a sub-service smashed in there. Every inch of this game has been monetized. Games that are monetized in this way are monetization schemes in game costumes. This means they are sh%& games, because the game experience has been chopped up and diluted. Working hard on a game does not exclude these facts.

The director also thinks people are stupid plebs that need to stay quiet, gamble and be happy. This is obvious after watching him in action at Blizzcon: "Do you guys not have phones?"

All of this is (not Immortal exclusively) why so many of us went to Path of Exile.

This isn't only a diablo immortal problem but ftp mobile games in general. The casuals and people who are already heavily invested in the game are usually easy targets for these predatory practices, and it's sad that there are millions of them in the mobile world.

You know what's crazy? I've got Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle on my phone. It's a gacha game, no question about it. However, I've had the game since launch 7 years ago. It's free to play. But it gives you PLENTY of gems (in game currency) just from playing the game. It's updated monthly, sometimes even sooner. And the percentage rate of getting rare and Legendary characters is fully acceptable. To the point that I have nearly all of the best characters in the game. And every time new characters drop, I have enough gems to summon enough times that I almost always get the new character. And, every multi summon gives you a guaranteed SSR level character. Without spending a dime. In fact, there's an entire community that calls themselves the "free to play" guys and they never spend anything on the game, and still have good enough characters to beat even the hardest content.

That is how you do a free to play game. That kind of game makes me want to support it. So every now and then I do throw a few bucks at it. Because that's how it's done right, and they should be rewarded. They deserve support. It's a crazy thought. A F2P game that doesn't FORCE your players to spend money on them to experience it all is the most successful and lasts the longest. After 7 years this game is regularly number 1 on ghe app store and still gets supported with new content.

Sadly, that's the only F2P mobile game I've come across that's like that.

It’s easy to focus on the terrible but it’s not nearly as widespread as that market was then. If every release was like cyberpunk over and over I could see a small crash. It will never be the 80s but they could lose an industry lead and a bunch of companies. Every game is not a broken mess at launch though. It’s not even close to the 80s in terms of quality.

The modern market is flooded with games but they aren’t shit games for the most part. There is something for everyone. The problem with our market is good games slipping through the cracks and missing their marks. Mostly due to launching next to annual heavy hitters. That just being dumb though imo.

Not only is there nothing original in your game, the only new systems you implemented were the ones designed around creating loot boxes. You didn’t even bother to make a new class.
