DualSense Controller on PC works as a go-to microphone and speaker

The DualSense Controller on PC works as a go-to microphone and speaker, and the potential for this is limitless on the PC gaming space.

Lol nope, I'm good. I'll just keep using my current headset

SegaGamer1294d ago

I don't know why you are getting downvotes. Nobody that plays on PC is going to use the dualsense controller as a speaker and microphone.

1294d ago
SyntheticForm1294d ago

He's getting downvotes because he cast aside the notion of using a controller speaker in lieu of a damn headset, which is vastly superior in every way to a controller speaker.

This makes perfect sense, but this is how sensitive fanboys are.

generic-user-name1294d ago

And nobody is expecting them to. Sony themselves say its no replacement for a gaming headset while playing on PS5. It's benefits will be when you want to send a quick voice message or dictate speech to text.

SegaGamer1294d ago

@Zeroblue2

So you are going to use that tiny speaker on a controller over your tv / monitors speakers or speakers you plug into your pc?........I don't believe you. Why would anybody do this?

SegaGamer1294d ago

@SyntheticForm

It's not just inferior to a headset, but actual speakers you can buy and plug into your pc too😂

It makes me laugh how far people will go with their fanboying.

Wrex3691294d ago

He's not worshipping PlayStation so the votes come lmao

Profchaos1294d ago (Edited 1294d ago )

Don't look at them as doenvotes or likes on n4g they are disagree and agree.

I didn't disagree or agree with him I saw the statement didn't feel for or against it.

frostypants1294d ago

Imagine arguing over this.

gamer78041294d ago

If it’s not pro Sony it gets downvotes here, just comes with the territory. Better off investing in a headset but a lot of casuals will still probably use the controller to talk unfortunately.

spdarksky1294d ago

Why would PC Players be using DualSense as a speaker and mic? It will just sounded awful. Better just stick with headset, for connectivity PC players can already do that on their xbox controller where most of pc players already had in their arsenal.

Michiel19891294d ago

I wish MS finally buried the hatchet for this and let me use ps controllers on windows without additional software, its pathetic really.

KRUSSIDULL1294d ago

That not on MS table but on Sony to update and release drivers for their hardware to run properly on Windows.

1294d ago
Michiel19891294d ago

my bad, odd that Sony hasn't released any drivers for it then. I don't see any downside to providing them, only positives.

1294d ago
runner4life1294d ago

Ds4windows 👌👌👌 as good as anything that Sony could make.

Teflon021293d ago

HUH lmao. NAWWWWW. I can confirm it's on MS. You can use a PS4 control to do everything on PC but play games. MS blocks the damn controller. How I know this? if you have steam open and you run something without the ps4 control support, you can still get functions to work even if wrong. You play a game through the MS store and the controller is completely disabled and it's not a coincidence. I can Turn off the DS4 support in steam and Cuphead will still read the PS4 control and work, I actually turn off the DS4 support in steams settings for any game that supports it and can identify it as a different control because the PC has drivers for it. Sony even specified at the beginning of the PS4 gen that the DS4 has PC support. I can use on anything gaming related but the MS store games.

Inverno1294d ago

Software would be needed, what shouldn't be so additional hardware like the adapter. Which is why I use that DS4 driver software. Let's ya use it wirelessly too, and play around with the lightbar

Michiel19891294d ago

if you have bluetooth on ur motherboard or something u dont need any hardware as far as im aware. I used a dongle if i wanted wireless and the cable the consoles came with to connect them to the pc for wired, i dont consider that additional hardware.

Teflon021293d ago

Yup I actually connect my DS4 to PC wirelessly through blue tooth and it works like it would on PS4. Just tap the power on the control and it's instantly connected. This is even with all programs like steam closed.

Inverno1294d ago

Ah, I thought the adapter was needed for windows to recognize the DS4

GOULDYBOBS1294d ago

Most games won't pick up the controller. Can be fixed with software called DS4Windows

VJGenova1294d ago

They patched that ages ago. Steam games are a bit, finicky. Dark Souls 3 for instance use the axis in the DS4 as a mouse. I had to use DS4 to emulate an Xbox controller. That said, Xbox, Uplay and Epic all support the PS4 natively now.

Bigman4k1294d ago (Edited 1294d ago )

I just hope I can used my ps5 controller to play both playstation 5 & 4 games on ps5 because I think read somewhere you need a D4 controller to ps4 games on the ps5

Bigman4k1294d ago

Didn't DBZ super end back in 2017 🤭

ThereGoThatManQ1293d ago

Nice comeback.....

Big man lol

Bigman4k1294d ago (Edited 1294d ago )

How would you know because to play vr games on ps5 you need the vr,ps4 camera, and camera adapter

ziggurcat1294d ago

"... I think read somewhere you need a D4 controller to ps4 games on the ps5"

No.

Bigman4k1294d ago (Edited 1294d ago )

Quote: use a DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller when playing PS4 games and PS VR games on a PS5 console.

Bigman4k1294d ago

You should've said no to that profile pic 🤣🤭

ziggurcat1294d ago

You can use a DuelSense to play PS4 titles on PS5 as well, so you don’t need a DS4.

Christopher1294d ago

Considering you can use DualSense on PS4, that would be really stupid. But, it's also just not true.

DivineHand1251294d ago

How do you use dual sense on PS4 because I've been looking around youtube and found that it can work on ps3 but not on ps4 unless you use remote play via a pc?

Teflon021293d ago

LMAO Divine, there's people using it straight out the box on PS4. The first unboxing of the control where they did a tear down and snapped the top by accident showed the man playing on PS4 with it lmao. Sony also specified it works on PS4 lol

Mr Logic1294d ago

That only applies to VR games.

DJStotty1294d ago

"I think read somewhere you need a D4 controller to ps4 games on the ps5"

No the DS5 can be used for PS4/5 games on the PS5

You can not use the DS4 to play PS5 games on the PS5. (think this is what you were referring to)

Inverno1294d ago

DS4 also acts like a speaker but I've never been able to make any noise play through it

Mr Logic1294d ago

You plugged headphones into the controller right...?

Inverno1294d ago

Never really thought to while connecting to my laptop tbh. Figured noise would go through to speaker on the controller but now I guess headphones would make more sense lol

I have the Cobalt Blue controller and it lasts twice as long as my launch white controller did out of the box already.

Profchaos127d ago

Yeah I got the black controller and it's been way better than my launch ones also. I had to return my launch one cause of stick drift and the replacement had the springs snap in the L2 trigger then that replacement got drift again then I finally tried the black controller it's been flawless so happy with it

dumahim126d ago (Edited 126d ago )

My original didn't last a year before stick drift took over. (edit: actually, don't think it made it 6 months since I first experienced the drift in AC which I started playing around January after the PS5 launch). I bought the black one as soon as it came out. Now it doesn't last a day's worth of gaming.

FPSRUSSIA128d ago

never had a problem with the battery life or stick drift good to know that they improved it.

isarai128d ago

This is the 1st controller I've had stick issues with unfortunately, took it apart and cleaned it even though it already looked clean, but the drift came back after couple days. Kinda bummed about it honestly cause I take good care of my stuff

EvertonFC127d ago (Edited 127d ago )

Same fella, never had a problem with previous gens but this one I'm on my 3rd already and I take very good care of my controllers and tech in general.
I've put it down to GT7 and rocket league 😂🤣

Profchaos127d ago (Edited 127d ago )

Same I'm on my 4th since launch 2 with drift and 1 with the springs snap off if the trigger all warranty replacements but it's still annoying.

This is the only generation I've had an issue since the duelshock on PlayStation 1,2,34 PSP vita in fact all of those are still going strong and I've not even had drift with the switch joycon which was apparently common.

I definitely feel the launch whit controller was a lesser build quality perhaps rushed to meet launch date while the coloured revisions are better quality they have thicker trigger springs at minimum.
When I called it out in here that I was a bit disappointed I had three break I was called a liar

CrimsonWing69126d ago

Same here, even my replacement controller for the one with stick drift got stick drift. Third times the charm though, haven’t had issues yet.

I’m also extremely OCD careful with my stuff. Making sure dust doesn’t get in the hardware, keeping things clean, not being rough on the controller. I’ve just never had the stick drift issue until these PS5 controllers.

EvertonFC127d ago

After 6 hours of gaming I'm normally walking the dog, or making something to eat or take a break and listen to a podcast while battery charging.
Had a couple of drifts though

frostypants126d ago (Edited 126d ago )

The early gen controllers almost universally go wonky. all three of mine did (two white, one black). Every controller made since they released the galaxy series of colors has revised internals. The SKUs changed accordingly. The fact that they are actually calling this new one "V2" makes me think it's a pretty big overhaul because they've already quietly made changes to these.

GoodGuy09128d ago

I was thinking all it really needs is a battery upgrade and there ya have it. Hall effect sensors would be great too but this is a good upgrade.

darthv72128d ago

i didn't think battery life was much of an issue. Stick drift though....

blackblades127d ago

Me either and I think it wont solve the issue cause some people will still B* about it or something

CobraKai127d ago

I got the drift on my launch controllers. I dont play games long enough in one session for the battery to be an issue. I usually charge my controllers once every 3 days.

Profchaos127d ago

Same it's not amazing but I've never one been stuck unable to play. Drift is a far bigger problem

Abnor_Mal127d ago

I have no problem with battery life, but what I would have liked on this new version would be back buttons/paddles.

BlackDoomAx126d ago

They have the Edge for that. Or you could go the cheap way and install an extremerate, it's easy and nice.

Abnor_Mal126d ago

The Edge is not worth the price if all I want is the back buttons, all the other bells and whistles the Edge can do I’m not interested in.

The PS4 back buttons were a very inexpensive solution that could have been added to the DS

Sony Appears to be Working on a New Version of the DualSense

Sony seems to be working on a new version of the DualSense that would improve on the PS5 controller with some extremely helpful features.

gamerant.com
Jin_Sakai168d ago (Edited 168d ago )

Pretty awesome. Hopefully they add a bigger battery to boot.

“The button hints would also be spelled out on the controller's touchpad, which would actually double as a display. This is not the first patent indicating that the DualSense 2 might feature a touchscreen instead of a touchpad, as another such IP filing emerged online back in September. As for the concept at hand, the controller that it describes wouldn't just be capable of lighting up its buttons, including its shoulder triggers, but also both of its analog sticks.“

_SilverHawk_168d ago (Edited 168d ago )

Sony needs to make a controller that can work on ps1,ps2,ps3,ps4 and ps5.

Mr_cheese168d ago

Surely you understand that that isn't feasible or warranted

Profchaos168d ago (Edited 168d ago )

Sony won't but there's manufacturers out there that do make that. Brooks is the one I have and can use my DS3,4 and duelsense on my PS1 and PS2 almong with Xbox controller and switch pro etc.

Note it feels better than a original controller however you still have the same controller functionality so most shooters play better with R2 as shoot but during the PS2 R1 was the standard as we didn't have triggers yet so the games feel sometimes unnatural to play

They have adapter's for most systems even modern ones want to use an Xbox controller on switch. For some reason they probably have something for that.

SonyStyled167d ago (Edited 167d ago )

You can use a DualShock 4 or Dualsense on a PS3. You can use a PS1 and 2 controller on a PS3 with an adapter.

What you are asking for is a wired Dualsense, or a wireless receiver for a Dualsense to play on PS1 and PS2. Everything else is already compatible out of the box.

MrNinosan167d ago

Why would they do or need that? 🤔

_SilverHawk_167d ago

some people take their fanboy allegiance to a degree that logical ideas are hated. i play on all consoles dating back decades ago which is evident by my profile wallpaper and not just the one or two consoles some people can only afford. i like playing older games or retro games on original hardware but id prefer to have more ergonomic and durable controllers with modern internals that can play different generations of gaming consoles. i prefer not to fiddle with adapters to use uncomfortable controllers when playing retro games and would like it if sony had one controller akin to the dualsense that can play all generations of sony gaming consoles. there are a lot of uncomfortable controllers from the past made by nintendo so it would be nice if nintendo had something like the wavebird that can play all nes consoles or microsoft with a duke/360 controller to play all xbox systems. it probably will never happen because i can see a lot of people crying about the controllers not being cheap because im quite sure those controllers would definitely be more expensive

-Foxtrot168d ago

Cool

Hopefully any upgrades and the like are kept for the PS6. If we start wasting things on mid gen consoles then the next gen isn’t as “wow” worthy compared to holding out and seeing a massive difference from something released 8 years ago or something.

purple101168d ago

Totally agree
Good point.

Would make it much better to have these things for nex-gen, with games that tie in on release

Sony have many weird patients, they are sony after all.

I remember one, with sweat sensor and the obvious heart rate monitor of course.

-Foxtrot168d ago

Yeah it’s just I feel like if we didn’t have the PS4 and the like we’d have been a little bit more blown away with what the PS5 / Xbox Series X could have done at launch

VenomUK168d ago

The touchscreen may or may not be useless.
If it is just repeating info on screen it may end up being ignored like the colours on the DualShock 4.
However if it can provide actual useful information, guidance for play that complements what is on screen, eg showing how to perform a move, or accessing inventory, without having to go to the menu, then it might work.

However, Sony must get it running with multiple games so they know if it actually provides a benefit beyond the cool sounding concept.

RNTody168d ago (Edited 168d ago )

I agree with you Fox except about the PS4, as it was one of the best generations for PlayStation so I'm absolutely glad it exists. Perhaps the PS4 Pro could have been skipped, but I was glad to play God of War at 60fps ;)

Stanjara168d ago (Edited 168d ago )

It wasn't 60. It was all over the place... around 45-50. I couldn't do it and played at fidelity 30.

badz149168d ago

I just want them to introduce the back button attachment like they did with the DS4. I love that thing and would definitely buy them for my controllers without having to buy the Edge.

HICK167d ago

Look into the mods you can do. I just did one and it was easy. RISE4 eXtreme Rate is what I did but you can do one with just 2 buttons.

PCgamer98167d ago

Back buttons should have already been the standard for default controllers. I can't believe we're still using the same controller layout from decades ago.

victorMaje167d ago

Agreed. If the revisions sell it may become a yearly thing which I’m not sure how to feel about.
Dualsense blew me away. If there are revisions the wow factor may get lost.

Vits168d ago

Honestly, I would dig a screen on a controller. I always liked the Dreamcast implementation of the VMUS, which could be simulated by something like this. The buttons lighting up could be cool for some accessibility-specific scenarios. Still, for general usage, I can't think of any potential uses that can't be achieved by ordinary buttons.

That said. If they are going to make a new controller, I would love them to invest in more repairability. Modular sticks, easier access to the battery, etc.

__y2jb168d ago

The vmu was a good idea, very badly implemented and went totally unsupported.

gold_drake167d ago (Edited 167d ago )

no no no, a screen on a controller is a bad idea. really really bad idea.

1. battery life lol
2. the amount of times my controller fell down somewhere because i either didnt see it is or it just slipped.pffmof something is alot.

Vits167d ago

1. Just put a decent battery on the controller. If Flydigi manage to do it with their Apex 3, Sony can with their devices as well.
2. That is a "you issue", stop having lettuce hands. /s

darthv72167d ago

They could just enable 2nd screen support for the portal.

Vits167d ago

Honestly, I find it bizarre that is not a thing at the moment.
