PS5 vs Xbox Series X: the next-gen consoles in photos

Microsoft and Sony have both created rather bulky next-gen consoles. We’ve known for weeks that the PS5 is the biggest game console in modern history, but Microsoft’s Xbox Series X isn’t exactly small. Now that we have both consoles to compare side by side, the design decisions and differences are immediately obvious.

PS5 disc all the way for me. I like the curve. It reminds me of curvature on the side panel of a exotic car. The xbox looks, well, like a box. which isnt a bad thing but I feel it will lose character quickly once novelty wears off.

Xbox Series X is perfection. ALL that power on a small, cooller, silent and sexy box.

I think in terms of compactness, the Xbox hardware team have killed it. Although I would appreciate a more inspiring design. Current design is sleek but would of loved them to go a bit more edgy like OG Xbox or 360.

I'm not concerned at all and I dont find it to be "huge" its just bigger than series x and that's fine if it means its a cool and quiet system which should be the focus as apposed to its overall dimensions that keep being obsessed over. I have plenty of room for it and cant wait to place it in its happy home, in my happy home.

The PS5 looks like a PC tower - although almost any of these options are likely too large for my current entertainment stand which is kind of annoying. May honestly be the first generation where I get creative with having them no longer immediately next to /under the TV - instead being hidden somewhere else

Well the idea is to play the games, as is the case for the last 40 years of gaming. so it doesnt matter what it looks like because your eyes will be on the screen, not the system.

JEEEESUS, PS5 is a freaking monster as Gary Whitta described it on Kinda Funny Games Podcast (comically huge). Looks like it will get a dedicated cabinet. Going to have to remove a shelf to get this bad boy in the entertainment center. Xbox should have no problems fitting for me, but PS5 is something else. Will be very interesting to see if they can slim this bad boy down in future iterations. Really like that you can already customize the outer plates on the PS5 with custom shells.

What liquid cooling tech, where did you get that it was liquid cooled? Are you referring to the liquid metal as the TIM? That is only for better heat transfer from the CPU to the heatsink and has nothing to do with the overall size of the system. If its "ridiculous" to make a system that will run cool and quite as was demanded by people then "ridiculous" it will just have to be. But I think its ridiculous to be so overly concerned about the size of the console when the bigger focus should be on it being cool and quiet and its games.

My bad I didn't initially see the one you were referring to, yeah its not there and I think its not there because they wanted to do a straight console to console size comparison without the stand adding to the height, honestly I think you could get away with standing the unit up without a stand but it might block airflow and not be worth it, stands included so its not a big deal really.

Way too big. Wont fit in most tv cabinets, cooling seems to be no1 priority which is good, but they have to be practical!

I predict the PS5 Slim will be as drastic a reduction in size as the PS2 Slim was. That beast is 50% fan and heat sink - lots of potential to remove through efficiencies.
