Grand Theft Auto V on PS5 is proof that the Rockstar Games of old is no more

I pity the people who only just realized this recently, especially those who came to this conclusion only after the PS5 reveal

Myself and others have been saying since 2014 that Rockstar doesn’t seem to care about its other IPs and seems to only be focused on GTA. They didn’t even bother releasing single player DLC like they did for GTAIV and we only got one new game from them during the entire 8th gen.

LA Noire is the only other release that got some attention from then but that still only happened to be a remaster. They didn’t even remaster other titles.

Idk how all this could be happening yet it’d take the PS5 reveal of GTAV for certain people to realize that Rockstar has changed

They did also release rdr2 this gen and insider leaks basically show how much of a mess this game was prior to launch so much so that rockstar north was told to drop tools and help the other studio polish the game.

Odds are that delayed the next game in line and GTA v re release was a quick cash grab personally they could of remade plant of the prior games which had a better story and I'd be happy. sp in v was good it was better than what most other studios produce but never hit the high notes that other entries did the characters weren't likeable IMO I'd rather replay GTA IV, vc, SA or the stories games again than revisit v.

But it's the biggest selling entertainment product ever so I get why it's rereleased it's like Bethesda and Skyrim stop buying it and well stop making it.

But I really do miss the PS2 era rockstar they released games that weren't the best in the market but had the best storytelling and still had fun refined gameplay. San Andreas still has a depth to it that most ubi and EA Games can't reach to this day.

But back then they made what they wanted warriors, bully, red dead revolver and stare if emergency all brilliant.

But with the hd era they were heavily criticised for weak graphics and they made a statement with IV that ultimately raised the bar they had to keep doing that and now it takes them 8 years to launch a game.

I think they need to narrow the scope I love their games rdr 2 was a masterpiece but how many people 100% completed it I have a platnuim trophy and it's one of the only games I am in the 0.01 percent of players who achieved it

It’s seriously absurd a major publisher like this can only focus on one game at a time. Every other publisher releases multiple games every year, yet RS can only seem to do one and nothing else. They can’t even bother to outsource development so other devs can help provide more of their IPs.

Only thing worse than that are the people who defend this mindset. There’s even various elements of RDR2 such as controls that still seem to be outdated. A publisher taking an entire generation to produce one new game can’t be good for everyone, yet they somehow made it work

You gotta think about it though, and this is the reason that Rockstar will not make another GTA game, if ever, for a LONG TIME. GTA 5 is the best selling video game in HISTORY! It made $1 billion dollars in 3 DAYS when it first came out, and since the game first release has made a whopping $6 BILLION DOLLARS! GTA 5 is a money making machine and has made more money on a single product than any other form of media in the entire world. It is INSANE how much money this game has made. Not encouraging them to keep milking a dry cow, but I'm just letting you know why it's not going anywhere.

I’m not talking about making another GTA game, I’m talking about Rockstar making more new games period.

Every other publisher in existence will always have a slew of upcoming titles that people can anticipate. Rockstar on the other hand has people in the dark outside of this GTAV rerelease. They can rerelease that game as many times as they want, but them not caring about anything outside of GTA and RDR is the main issue here.

The wait between GTA: SA and GTAIV as well as GTAIV and GTAV was supplemented by releases of various other titles. After GTAV there’s RDR2 and...just updates to their online modes

Even if Dan Houser left, Rockstar can keep his workflow and views on how he approached game development.

there are a lot of games that are making the jump over,
simply because they have a high enough population with their online component to justify doing that, and if they're going to do that, why not move the entire beast over and use it as a showcase as well for what technology can do?
for people that may have got it only played it online and never really went near the campaign, or people that would like to play through the campaign again with better visuals and more capabilities, it's not that big of a reach.
the fact is there's a lot of new games out there that wish they had Grand theft Auto v monthly sales,
and this is a game that was released in 2013.
they are making money because people are buying it, so why not cater to more people buying it, it only makes sense.
especially because both consoles are supporting backwards capability, it would be foolish not to.

Yeah and it’s a really good game hence why a game from last gen has been top 10 pretty much the entirety of this gen. To say (not you comments above) they don’t release games is just rubbish. Sure they’ve slowed down but it’s not as easy as it was with GTA3 to then go the next year vice city (more of the same different soundtrack location missions etc not to knock it I loved it but it was a pretty simple sequel for them compared to then San Andreas but that’s wasn’t majorly different either.
They ported LA noire, uh Red dead redemption 2 Not a small game by any stretch so it takes a solid 2-3 years for these games they not banging em out like EA, and GTA5 port and it was a very good one hence people still playing it now it looks or looked fantastic for a last gen game. I personally want GTA6 but if 5 is happening again so be it I just won’t buy it. Might dabble on the free online. More to the point the games these take a solid few years to make they are incredibly in depth stuff to do everywhere great story’s graphics and gameplay. I mean if you want them to knock out games every year like EA sure it sounds great but it would get stale fast look at call of duty bit better again these days but still meh
These games are massive productions hundreds of actors motions captures voices scripts and when your pushing bars and starting from
Scratch again each time it takes time. Last of us took an entire gen for a sequel and it was worth the wait I want GTA6 sooner rather than later but looks like another couple of years should it be sooner absolutely but it is what is it. People stop paying for GTA5 and buying shark cards they’d soon make a new one it is a great game tho that they’ve continued to add new stuff to all gen. people moan about the shark cards but I don’t buy em I just play the game and it was one of the best £35/40 I spent in a long time it’s lasted years got hours of entertainment. Deaf dani you forgot Max Payne 3 and La Noire which also got rereleased this gen with VR GTA5 has been supported all gen so you basically listed 2 dlc as extra games they released (GTA5 was on first list but not on your second/PS4 list just the online even tho they spruced up the entire game campaign as well included extras like director mode and FPS) GTA4 dlc was great one of my favourites ever same with undead nightmare but it was a few hours loads of of replayability sure but was DLC. I’m not giving them a free pass just being realistic these games take years to make and they have never rushed them even the original GTA trilogy got delays when they needed them. The games get bigger and bigger in scale and production, so we want them to evolve change upgrade and make consistently excellent games or do we want them to start knocking out 7-8/10’s every single year. I’ll take 1-2 incredibly excellent games (hence people are still playing one from last gen this entire gen) over 4-5 yearly churned and ultimately inferior products. They supported GTA5 better than Ubisoft support their games each year and all the content updates have been free for 5-6 years!!! That’s 5-6 season passes for Ubisoft rockstar has never charged a penny other than the entry fee 🤷🏻‍♂️ Sure it has shark cards to speed up process’ but with the amount of free money given out and years put into the game who needs to buy money just earn it and get the free stuff. Yes free stuff rockstar may have made billions from this game but they supported better than 90% of developers would have done. Each to their own but I’d take 1-2 truly top notch and excellent games a gen Over 4-5 average ones.

L.A. Noire was a special game. Really enjoyed the detective thing and the mo-cap and music were on point too. Lots of Mad Men actors too and all did a great job.

Everything else is boring - I completely agree. The control scheme (same for every game) is downright archaic now, and it's never been comfortable, really - just stiff, clunky and slow.

I 'used' to understand Rockstar - now all I understand is that their games don't impress me at all these days. I do understand how people go for GTA V's sandbox - I mean I get it - but I'm still long over it.

I used to get it as well. Ultimately, Red Dead and GTA are the same game in different settings and time periods. The core game....the same. LA Noire actually stepped out quite a bit and added mystery and some innovation to that formula. Made it fun and interesting.

I don't like their approach to realism. The controls are usually clunky to compensate for "realistic movement" and 80% of RDR2 seemed to be watching pretty animations; the other 20% split between killing herons, picking flowers, and listening to speeches on horseback. The older GTAs were fun for me because they had an arcadey feel and didn't take realism so seriously.

GTA V hitting next gen consoles was expected even if Rockstar did sign a deal with Sony. GTA V is Rockstar's cash cow and they will milk it. Pretend GTA 6 never came out on Series X or PS5 I bet if the PS6 came out GTA V would be ported to that console as well because it's a cash cow. I want a new title like Bully 2, LA Noire 2 or even a new franchise I have seen it all did it all on GTA V and it's starting to get stale in Los Santos. I only turn the game on just to see what the new podium car is and spin the wheel a few times but after that I turn the game off. I remember with PS2 Rockstar was turning out new and fun games now it's like every ten years they pop something out RDR 2 was a great game but after that there wasn't much from Rockstar this current console cycle for fun original games.

Is the old Rockstar really completely gone though? RDR2 was a great game, with a large focus on the single player. Let’s take another company as an example that also focuses on single player games - Naughty Dog. They’ve only produced 1 more game than Rockstar this gen. While I agree they may seem greedy due to the GTA re-releases (which let’s face it, is probably down to Take Two), the argument of “Rockstar made X games last gen, but only X this gen” isn’t really valid imo. Games take a lot longer to make nowadays, especially large, story-driven open world games like GTA, Uncharted, Horizon Zero Dawn etc. What is unforgivable though, is no release of GTA 5 single player DLC.

GTA V could have been so much more for single player. The three person protagonist system was awesome and when the game first came out I expected many DLC's that would utilize it. But they ruined the game with all that online crap. The fact they continually developed for the online side but abandoned the single player was infuriating to me.
