Dragon Quest IX actually coming out in 2008?

Siliconera writes: "A game like Dragon Quest IX usually has a prelude of previews months before it launches. We haven't heard Square Enix or Level 5 say much about the game and supposedly it's coming out sometime this year. Square Enix's TGS 2008 page for Dragon Quest IX sticks the title with a 2008 release window and there aren't many months left in the year."

but I cant believe they are actually expecting me to play the new game on a nintendo ds? Ive been playing most of their games on consoles since the Dragon Warrior 1 days all the way up too Dragon Quest 8 on the ps2, and Ill be damned if they think im gonna buy a DS just to play this freaking game.

I didnt spend $2000 on a HD tv, $600 on a ps3, $400 on a 360, and $2500 on a Bose system so I can play my favorite rpgs on a $100 dollar machine. Im so sick of Square Enix. I wish it was the good ol days where Enix and Squaresoft weren't partners. They were both known to produce the best rpg's, but now the only thing they are doing is killing the genre.

TheColbertinator5746d ago

Thats how things are with Square.I would have loved it on the PS2,Wii,360 or PS3 but I was dissapointed when SE went with the DS.I love the DS but I just can't see myself loving DQ9

Watching SqEx over the past few years has been sad. Some other company needs to step up and take the JRPG crown. I don't care if its Nippon Ichi, Level 5, or Mistwalker, we need someone to step up and give SqEx a run for their money.

Really if you are a fan of DQ you'd know that DQ8 was the odd ball of them all on terms of graphics which is the one thing that stood out for it from the rest. Other than that it was the same awesomeness 1-7 had which still doesn't hold a candle to what this is going to look like on the DS.

With the way console rpgs are now-a-days Dragon Quest can't be on one and turn based level grinding games are now suited for good old handhelds and the DS is the prefect fit for that type of game which Dragon Quest is all about.

So glad it still has a 2008 window ^^

Bombibomb5746d ago

Another masterpiece by Level-5.

RememberThe3575746d ago (Edited 5746d ago )

Dragon Quest 8 is one of my favorite RPGs(it's funny because I bought it for the FFXII demo) and I don't have a DS, please tell me that its going to be on a home console.

KingDizzi5746d ago

This game will be by far the best selling DS game in Japan, I cannot even begin to describe what a phenomenon this franchise is in Japan.

PS360WII5745d ago

So cool and it's coming out on the best suited system for it the DS! These type of games are no longer good enough for the home consoles which is why they are putting it out on the handheld NDS. If you liked VIII you should love IX because it's still being made by Level 5 and still has that cell shading from the last one and is still going to be what Dragon Quest is all about.

Why Dragon Quest IX Deserves A Remake

Despite having some of the best storylines and customization options in the series, Dragon Quest IX is the only installment to never receive a port.

I wo set why this port never happened. Now with a larger and more interested fanbase, may e they will?!

I wish the majority of the previous mainline Dragon Quest games were readily available on modern platforms. 3DS is the only system that fits that criteria but this should be expanded upon

I see no reason why a DQIX remake couldn’t also be on PS4 as well as Switch

Gemmol1785d ago

Why would you want it on ps4 I have a switch and ps4 and it would be perfect on switch

It’s not final fantasy to need high end graphics plus always sold better on Nintendo

Mr Marvel1785d ago

@Gemmol - Why? Because the PS4 version is ALWAYS far superior to the Switch version. Better Frame rates, better resolution and most importantly... TROPHIES!!!

Gemmol1784d ago

@mr marvel

If the game is being made ground up for the switch it won’t have frame issues or resolution issues so your point do not stand

Your point only work if they made it for the ps4 version first than ported to switch

The developers want to make it on switch so the game would be ported to ps4 if they made it so all these things you bring up have more effect on the switch

PhoenixUp1785d ago

Because I only have a PS4 😑

How would this game being suited for Switch discredit it from also having a PS4 version? A number of Dragon Quest games nowadays release on PS4 & NS, why stop there with a possible DQIX remake?

Gemmol1784d ago

Original was on Nintendo only so I can see why they would pick switch only, but I can see why you want it now, not everyone have switch and ps4 like me so hopefully they make a ps4 version for you but at least give the switch some exclusive features if they plan to port to ps4 like being able to play in 2d like the original DS version or whatever

Last_Boss1785d ago

I really want X brought to NA & EU.

Gemmol1785d ago

Me too what system would u want it on

Last_Boss1785d ago

I'd want it on PS4 & Switch, like it is in Japan. I would buy it on PS4, cause of friends and performance.

ZeekQuattro1785d ago

I'd be game for that. It was fun having a team of DBZ characters running around. Lol

8 Square Enix Remakes We'd Love to See After Final Fantasy VII

There is a long tradition of Square Enix Remakes dating back through PlayStation history. That tradition continues with Final Fantasy VII, and will probably keep going after that. Here are some titles gamers would love to see again.

Why do lists like this never ask for the Eidos side of Square Enix? There’s plenty of remakes id like to seem from Eidos’ stories history

BlackIceJoe1856d ago

Well said. I know I'd gladly pay for a remake of Legacy of Kain and if it does well the chances for a new game increases too, which would be a plus in my book.

MWH1854d ago (Edited 1854d ago )

Amen my friend, vae victis.

PhoenixUp1856d ago

Not only that but people tend to also forget about Enix’s own titles and just mainly focus on Squaresoft’s past like it’s the only classic backlog Square Enix can return to.

Dragon Quest is the only thing people ever mention. You’ll hardly ever see the likes of Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean, & ActRaiser

Sirk7x1854d ago (Edited 1854d ago )

Or Enix. Remake Terranigma I say! One of the most underrated RPGs ever made.

Immagaiden1856d ago

Personally I’d just want Square Enix to release FFVIIR period before thinking of whatever remake they could work on after it.

Plus it’s not like we even have to wait for that to release for another remake to be made. Their last one was Secret of Mana last year. They can still release smaller scale remakes in the meantime

on_line_forever1854d ago

Iam still hope someday Square Enix cooperate with fromsoftware to remake VAGRANT STORY

Brave Fencer Musashi
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX

NecrumOddBoy1855d ago

I would love for Square to take Chrono Trigger as is, repolish it with an overlay of lighting effects and actually get an orchestra to do the soundtrack. (I wish CT had a live cover too).

Also would love to see Enix's E.V.O Search for Eden remade in something that resembles the Ubisoft Framework Engine. This game is incredible yet almost completely forgotten.

Sirk7x1854d ago (Edited 1854d ago )

Could possibly look amazing employing tilt shift like Octopath's art style. That game has beautiful sprite work and lighting. Also, EVO, hell yes.

-Foxtrot1855d ago

Final Fantasy VIII

They already skipped VIII out with a port and trophy support so they better not skip it for the next remake

The garden battle in HD would be glorious
