If you haven't noticed the gems from any generation are single player experience. Multi-player is fun and all but it won't get rid of single player experiences. Developers have stories to tell and gaming is the perfect platform for it. Just ask Naughty Dog and any other story driven developer.

DarkOcelet3034d ago

The moment Single Player games dies is the moment i stop buying new games and enjoy the old ones.

There is hardly any Multiplayer game i am very fond of but many Single Player games stuck out with me till this very day.

TwoForce3034d ago (Edited 3034d ago )

Single player is alway my gem. So we unite we stand against this MP only BS. UNITED WE STAND OR DIVIDED WE FALL.

DarkOcelet3034d ago

@xHeavYx

Bloodborne was mainly Single Player for me.

mikeslemonade3034d ago

Meh they both have limits. Single player becomes to repetitive and multiplayer is too shallow. Gaming needs both.

Ezz20133034d ago (Edited 3034d ago )

As a Single-player gamer only
The day Single-player games die is the ay i stop gaming.
Call me selfish but the days were there was Singleplayer games only when there was no such thing as Multiplayer were the best days in my life.

I'm glad that developers such as Naughty Dog,From Software among others prove that Singleplayer still the king.

CrazedFiend3034d ago

I, personally, hate multiplayer. Especially FPS.

No matter how dumb, the AI in FPS games always feel more real to me than live competitors. I mean in a live match, you have everybody runnin' n gunnin' around the map like a bunch of scattering cockroaches. Who the hell does that in real life?

Single player AI somehow forces me to take my time and handle things in a more realistic manor.

I'm sure I'm in the minority on this one though.

Kingthrash3603033d ago (Edited 3033d ago )

Single player games are the meat and potatoes of any game. Without it a game feels like it's missing something. Always. Games like TF, EA'S BFront, and R6 feel like it's missing alot and not worth the full price they launched with. BF and R6 had stories and look what happend. Thinking how awsome BF would have been with a sp mode is mind boggling.
Now flip the table and tell me how many games need a MP to complete it. Yes there is cod and BF who's MP is what people want it can't compare to the vast majority of games that dosent need mp to complete it.
Sp was never dead, never will be.
If it does the I'll hang up my controllers next to my pogs and retire.

TLOU, in particular, was a complete package: over 15 hrs of campaign and an amazing multiplayer where your team actually matters. I put so much hrs into this game. Imma be doing the same with U4.

Single player is still the meat of video games. I play games to enjoy myself and play at my pace. Competitive gaming won't get me more girls or take me anywhere in life. Sure I play MP games with friends and players online, but that just a few hrs after beating the main campaign. This is how it has always been, but devs lately have been so lazy with this new trend

I give titantall a pass because the game was actually addictive fun, but the others are just devoid of content and damn repetitive. Not worth the price by any means.

nommers3033d ago

Please don't call it a "campaign".

WellyUK3034d ago

That's wrong there are loads of so called MP "Gems" as well... WoW, CoD (Ever since CoD4 the series has been MP focused and CoD4 changed a generation of shooters...), CS:GO, Dota2, LoL, Battlefield series (Is pretty much a MP game), Gears of War 1, WarHawk, Dayz and Arma 2 are few of those gems.

You people make it out as if every MP game is crap or not good yet some of these games have been going for years and have incredible player bases still after 10+ years...

I love a great SP game but nothing beats a great MP game IMO.

jb2273034d ago

Totally agree...platforms & publishers want to push the mp only model not because it is "more innovative" as was quoted in the article, but because it gives them full power over the products we buy. It requires us to pay a monthly online subscription fee, it entices us to buy Microtransactions & the servers can be shut off to force gamers into buying the new installments. Online MP games essentially give all of our power over, so sure the publishers want to push that agenda, but like you & others are pointing out sp games are typically the most memorable & long lasting experiences. For me at least, they are my entire reason for gaming & I would definitely check out as well if we get pushed into an online mp only future. The large amount of agrees on all of these comments kinda goes to show that if we do get to a time when games require mp & online, that is the time that the industry collapses on itself after a mass exodus of their core crowd.

SUCKxITxEZ3034d ago

@Ezz2013- multiplayer goes back to pong so I have a hard time believing you played videogames before multiplayer was even a thing.

Bdub20003033d ago

I personally thought Destiny was pretty close to striking a good balance.

The game was fun as single player, but way more enhanced as multiplayer. The bad part of the balance was that further in to the game it became necessary to play multiplayer, and several missions or game types it was totally necessary, and the "raids" required coordination with 6 friends and several hours of free time to beat...

IceKoldKilla3033d ago

Not 100%. Halo, GoldenEye, Call of Duty, Socom are all gems people continue to remember (I obviously refer to past titles to prove my point). What about local multiplayer? People remember games that had incredible local multiplayer. Counter-Strike, DOOM, Quake, Unreal Tournament, etc. Just wanted to clarify all gems aren't just singleplayer games.

Pretty much all the games I'm buying this year are single player games

Single player will NEVER DIE!

NeoGamer2323034d ago

Single player dies, then gaming dies for me.

PhucSeeker3034d ago (Edited 3034d ago )

Single player will never die <= fact.

Lennoxb633033d ago

I wish people would stop telling this lie.

IanTH3033d ago (Edited 3033d ago )

What lie? I, like NeoGamer, play predominantly single player games. 99% of my gaming library is single-player only games. The game I happen to play most consistently right now is Diablo 3 - a game that supports playing solo as well as it does co-op. That's about the only kind of game I could see myself keep playing if "true" single-player games came to an end. But I don't like MOBAs, I don't like competitive FPSs, things of that ilk. So if single-player games go the way of the Dodo, gaming would - in a very real way - be dead to me. Maybe I'd find a game I'd play now and again but I would end up spending my time on other things.

Probably more useful things...

Or maybe I'd finally finish my 1,000 game backlog!

ninsigma3034d ago

Yeah single player is going no where. There's no need to be worrying about the new online only games. They are great in their own right and have just as much a place in the industry as sp games. However, single player is the core of it all and both released and upcoming sp games vastly outnumber mp only games. The more diverse the industry is the better. We don't need to lean more to one side than another. As long as we are getting a mixture of sp and mp and all kinds of genres, everything will be fine. Besides, if MP does start to take over, indie devs will keep it all in check as I know many sp gamers will flock to them for sp games. This doesn't have to be a divisive issue. Mp and SP can co-exist.

Days Gone Director Says Bend's Project Costs Over $250M; Says PS Co-CEO Doesn't Want 2 Zombies Games

Days Gone director claims Sony has already poured in at least a $250M in Bend's project; says Days Gone sold more than Death Stranding.

shinoff218314h ago

Well that sucks. Seems they want more online trash. I'd rather of had the sequel if it was single player

MrNinosan19m ago

What online trash games did PS Studios release last 10 years?

-Foxtrot14h ago

It would be a shame if it was true that Hermen never gave the franchise a chance simply because he didn't like it and they already had a "Zombie" game with TLOU.

NaughtyDog are most likely moving onto a new IP next so it would have been the perfect time to do it.

ThinkThink6h ago

Here's where xbox steps in and releases state of decay 3 day and date on ps5.

excaliburps50m ago

Yep. Kind of weird since it wasn't a sales flop, no?

I know we have to take what Ross says with a grain of salt since we're hearing just one side of the story, but even so, the game wasn't bad at all. Heck, it's my brother's favorite last-gen game from what I recall.

The amount of zombies on screen, imagine that with the PS5 and SSD? That would be insanely fun!

P_Bomb32m ago

Well I don’t want 10 live service games, but they have no problem doing that lol. Ugh.

Trying to push players over from PC to console is a terrible idea, PlayStation

As PlayStation announces its new strategy to encourage PC users to choose PS5 it is a bitter-sweet moment for PC gamers.

Christopher16h ago

I mean, it's a business based on hardware market. Do we expect them to not even try? It's not like Nintendo doesn't do the same by not putting any games on PC and Microsoft until recently did the same. I don't care what they attempt, as long as they don't abuse the community or lie about their goals/requirements.

Will it work? Not likely. Should we care? No. Let them waste their time, it doesn't affect anything.

RaidenBlack15h ago

let them try ... at the end of the day, we get few extra PC games ... yay ... and also promotes game preservation via PC ... so double yay.

Fishy Fingers15h ago(Edited 15h ago)

I wish them the best of luck.

But PC players are often a patient bunch, many will even wait for Epic launcher exclusivity to end until a game comes to Steam.

If they didnt buy the console when its games were exclusive, why would they do it now theyre not?

MrNinosan57m ago

Way more do than you probably think.

ravens5249m ago

All you need is that one game that'll make a few switch at a time. Like a game a PC player REALLY wants.

-Foxtrot14h ago

PC gamers are just too patient and loyal to their gaming set ups, something they've spent a lot of money on to perfect. They have backlogs of games which many never get round to finishing or get round to at all and will always have other multiplatform releases to keep them going.

Over the many years Sony has published so many awesome titles such as The Last of Us, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Infamous, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, Dreams, Puppeteer, Resistance, Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo, Motor Storm, God of War, Horizon, Ratchet and Clank, Spiderman, Ghost of Tsushima, Bloodborne

If none of those games BEFORE all these PC ports convinced a hardcore PC gamer to get a PS5 console then why on Earth would porting them them to PC now make any difference? All PC gamers now know 100% is that they just have to be patient, which they are good at anyway to get a PS5 game 2 years later.

I get GaaS games or multiplayer focused titles but if people really want to play these games they'd have gotten a PS console years ago.

helicoptergirl14h ago

Who cares? Then just stay on PC and play the waiting game. No big deal. Sony wins in the end anyway.

Number1TailzFan14h ago

I mean if there's any single player Sony games that I actually want that aren't on PC then I would buy said console to play them on. But the ones that I like that aren't on PC are few and far between anyway so no loss for me.

If I game, it's usually multiplayer titles, otherwise I like playing around with some other software.

Former Activision studio Toys for Bob partners with Xbox to publish its first game as an indie

Former Activision studio Toys for Bob partners with Xbox to publish its first game as an indie. This is something of a homecoming, as Microsoft owns Activision.

Very very early in development. Still, fantastic news!

Let´s GO!!!

Lightning7711h ago

I guess.

How come they didnt either let them go or sell Tango and others to another publisher? Not saying Ubisoft, EA would be any better. (Capcome would of treated them right )

At least it wouldn't be MS of all ppl destroying them.

MS really should let go Tango go like they did TFB here.

darthv7210h ago(Edited 10h ago)

one was under Bethesda (Tango) the other under Activision (TFB). Clearly each one handled the separations of their subordinates differently.

Obscure_Observer10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

"How come they didnt either let them go or sell Tango and others to another publisher? Not saying Ubisoft, EA would be any better. (Capcome would of treated them right )"

Perhaps because Zenimax and ABK handles such matters differently based on their own internal policies as "independent" publishers.

Whoever, chances are it´s simply because MS didn´t wanted Tango or Austin to be acquired by competitors and develop new bangers for them, giving MS a bad rep in a possible future. Which could also be the reason why they ensured an exclusive partnership with TFB and its new game, before anyone else.

Sad and disgusting. But it is what it is.

Lightning776h ago(Edited 6h ago)

"Whoever, chances are it´s simply because MS didn´t wanted Tango or Austin to be acquired by competitors and develop new bangers for them, giving MS a bad rep in a possible future."

MS has a bad rep now because those studios are no more. I rather them sell the studio continue to make multiplatform releases, while MS continues to focus on whatever they're doing. If they didn't want Tango around they should separated from them or sell them to, like they did TFB.

It's inexcusable, they have options on how to handle studios they don't want anymore with killing jobs. Not just MS but the rest of the industry also.

Sad and disgusting sure how many will get shut down next year or this year even?

I don't trust MS decisions and motivations at this point. You have to admit they make one dumb move after another.

-Foxtrot12h ago

Manages to buy their freedom especially after all the shit Microsoft has been doing with its studios lately

...

Goes right back to them as partners.

Okaaaaaay...

darthv7210h ago

Id venture a guess that TFB working directly with MS was a better outcome than working through Activision to get to MS.

VersusDMC8h ago

From the article...

"Toys for Bob spun out as an indie back in February after Microsoft instituted sweeping layoffs that impacted 86 employees, which was more than half of the staff"

I doubt those 86 employees enjoyed the Microsoft experience over Activisions.

Inverno8h ago

MS shuts down studios because of lack of resources and then helps these guys by giving em resources. Also MS is what forced them to buy their freedom in the first place? What kind of logic 😂

Chevalier5h ago

The best thing is that the company that is worth $3 trillion and owns the company instead of Xbox lacks resources. How the hell does a company worth $3 trillion making a measly $70 billion purchase they 'can't' support. Lol

Sciurus_vulgaris10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

Xbox’s gaming division seems to still function as 3 semi-autonomous sub-divisions, Xbox Studios, Bethesda and ABK. The three main sub-divisions can seemingly shut down or build studios and set up partnerships independently. This would explain why Bethesda can recently shutdown studios, while ABK spins off one studio, while building a new one. Plus, Toys for Bob could be spun off by ABK, only to immediately re-partner with Microsoft.

Chevalier5h ago

That's absolutely 💯 BS. Any sane 'autonomous' company would NOT put their games on Gamepass day 1 like COD will lose probably billions.

Also they're all under Xbox game studios so any autonomy is an illusion.

Elda5h ago

Either a kiddie game or something uninteresting.
