I agree. Both articles are just as bad in my opinion. The more people feel attacked by these "news" and give it the attention it doesn't deserve, the bigger the whole thing gets until a new flamewar starts and that is what I don't want to see, because it's stupid. If you don't want to buy something, then just don't, easy as that - but don't come back and attack others because they bought it.
Some people give their best to discuss things on a sophisticated level, but the majority turns gaming into a useless fight without any brains. It's "articles" like these that add fuel to the dieing fire and make fanboys/fangirls something we accept as common.

The PS3 has 512meg of ram, thats an absolute fact. As with most shoddy journalists, you simply take a fanboy comment based on how the memory is divided and accessed, and then spread you complete misunderstanding as if it were fact. Its utterly pathetic.

Not that I won't buy into the next xbox - I'm a tech whore and I have everything. In a way its a shame they didn't make the 360 with enough foresight to last a bit longer, but given some of the great game experiences we've had from it, I guess we shouldn't complain.

My only complaint would be if they immediately drop all support for 360. What they did with xnox was an utter disgrace and many people haven't bought into MS because of this awful support.

Even though I didnt read the other one(or this one) I could tell it was written by a fanboy. saying that 2011 is too early for a new xbox is stupid for a few reasons.

1)its moronic: Didnt ps2/3 follow up the most successful console in history 6 years later. seemed like a good strategy when sony did it.

2) its biased against microsoft: most likely by 2011 nintendo will have a new system(or mabe before cause nintendo wants to sell this new console as "something new + a wii"). That will only be 5 years.

I can understand someone who is kinda hoping microsoft will drop out would think they wouldnt support the 360 after the new one comes out. As long as they can continue to make ps3 games they can make 360 games, and vice-versa. Microsoft may try to make all new games but thats a good thing. This new xbox should beable to play 360 games so there could even be more people to buy a 360 game.

That also means this new system could be a 360 that actually works. Mine works too, but who knows if it will last till 2011. 2011 seems like a good guess foar a new xbox.

Personally Id rather see objective article about when the next systems may come out, then a subjective one saying why they dont want it, or whatever their stupid opinion on the console they hate is.

In 2011 the Playstation 3 will be selling for $100. In 2011 the Xbox 720 will probably launch at a 500 or more price point.

What would you rather buy then? A PS3 with a HUGE gaming library, or an expensive Xbox 720 with no catalog of software (e.g. like how the PS3 first launched).

Its like the Playstation 2, all over again. When will MS ever learn? I welcome the competition though, its made us have better products!

man. pc gaming is dead why again would i want to spend over 1 grand to play old games? honestly the only good pc games are rts games. pc gaming is not at all what it used to be back in age of empires 2 days and UT2, warcraft 3,cs, and swat3 one of my favorite classic pc games.

Man PC gaming is far from Dead...yes it's more expensive than consoles, but you get much, much better visuals, you can get 60fps (or more) and 1080P(equivalent) on all(except Crysis) games. Most of those games were bought at a lower price than their console counterparts. I use a XBox 360 contoller for some games, Keyboard and mouse combo for PFS and RTS games and stearing whell for racing games.

We get most of the console games including lots of MS exclusives we can play back catalogs, and most games look better and play better once on PC (Mass Effect, GTAs, GRID, Oblivion, etc...)

Why 8 gigs already cost $250-300. Ummm 2gigs cost how much now? About $50 maybe? ATI' and nvidia's future GPU are trying to have 6 cores in them. I don't know if they can make it affordable meaning not $1000 for a console I say bring it. The last time Consoles gave PC gaming a bloody nose was 2d graphics and effects. I would like to see that again with 3d maybe.

I expect the next HD machines to come with 4-8 gigs standard of ram. I'm serious... Why not? The prices will be even lower in 3 years.

Also people forget the next xbox may actually be backward compatible since MS is cool with IBM. The old xbox was abandon because intel wanted to stick them with the price along with nvidia even though the parts had drop in their production cost. The 3rd parties maybe the ones that support the old xbox more anyway. Want will be interesting is what concept will they use next time. The Wii proved that you can have a core box that is capable yet the HD proved that you have lots of people who want more. What if it's a modular system like a console standard? Good enough to play old xbox games and upgradable in peaces so that you can play the more realistic games? When I say upgradable not like a 3 month refresh more like what we have now a Wii on one end and a HD console on the other.

Anyway, about the attempt to badmouth MGS4: It took me 16 hours without skipping anything on my first playthrough. Now, if you attended math classes as often as you should have, you would see that there can't be 20 hours worth of cutscenes. It must be sad to have an attention span so short that you can't go 30 minutes without killing something colorful. I enjoyed ever single second of the cutscenes and the about 90 minutes behemoth of an epilogue was better than most movies I saw from Hollywood.
If you weren't such a fanboy/fangirl, you could have added something about MGO, which I like btw. So even if I got tired of MGS4, I'd still have the online part to keep me busy. But again, thanks for being concerned about my gaming prefernces, I appreciate it, honey.
If you would take the time to read what I write in my comments and not just assume from the fact that I own a PS3, you would see that I talk about the negatives on every console. Did I like NG2? No, but neither did I enjoy Sigma. Did I buy HAZE? No, because I think it's crap. Did Sony have good games after the launch? No, it took them way too long to get out the big guns. Do mandatory installs suck? Kinda, but I rather install than have pop-up. Are Sony fools because they don't get their exclusives (especially JRPGs at the moment)? Yes, they are. next gen is open for me, have had three incarnations of the playstation, but mgs has finished and both square/rockstar seem to be doing more and more multiplat stuff. GTA, FF and MGS were the games i grew up with so ps3 was almost a necessity.

think it'll come down to hardware, media capability and innovation. shot myself in the foot a little with the purchase of blu-ray as i'm not sure how much it'll feature in future consoles that arn't sony based, but guess ps3 will always do that and buy 2012 be some really cheap blu-ray players on the market anyway.

I'm just saying, I like it when consoles have a long life span to them. I don't have to worry about upgrading anything to play the latest games, like the PC, where you have to basically upgrade something every two years, have it be memory, a processor or something else. What is funny is it's the fans that are making this all ok. We want movie games we want cine what ever 2.0. To do this they will have to be the first out once again. Had the PS3 came out a year later it may have had a 8800 in it but who knows? The race for graphics superiority is whats driving this not MS they just joined the game. The real problem is figuring out how to please the new tech hungry and the normal gamers also.

I'm not crazy about MS either no one in their right mind is. Yet the only thing they have done wrong this gen is make a system that is not designed for ware and tear. The IEEE website states why this has happened and it all makes sense. But I will be on the wait and see side rather than just forget it. I don't have to like the company to play it's system. Good tech is good tech for the right amount money.

Another thing is people want a standard and with out it you will continue here people say crazy stuff like the cell will make up for the lack of ram or it's just not being tapped. Standards are based on known facts and what tech can or can't do at certain points. It's like when AMD had the memory controller on the athlons it was better now with out even the same thing the core duo is crushing AMD. One thing does not solve all in computers and certain things can not be replaced unless true break throughs are made. Developer want a standard also. They want to make an object once or make an Ai once and then just build on them. Learning the whole thing over and over and over is cause lots of talent to leave the industry.

PS3 is the preffered system.
You dont have to worry about RRoD. You wont be the lucky person and you wont have to send your consoles back all the time to repair. You also dont have to worry about the amount of space on the HDD, since SONY provided every users with enough GBs. If you feel you dont have enough, you can always upgrade to 500gb HDD. Which is Mission Impossible on Sh1tBox360. On PS3 you wont have to worry about controller getting broken or, something wrong with the wires which break very often like cheap toys.

PS3 is your ideal choice if you want to play at night without being heard. You dont have to worry about noise, and that your girlfriend will wake up and ask you if there was a plane flying by, when turning on the console.

You will find the best titles which are on PS3 ofcourse such as :

-LPB
-Resistance 2
-Heavy Rain 3
-Siren
-Motorstorm
-GT5
-Haze
These games are the most hot, and certainly not for XBOX 360 since it would automaticaly go RRoD when the disc is inserted. Again its too HOT.

Blu Ray is you number one choice when it comes to home entartaiment. High capacity disc makes space for every smallest detail in the movie or in games. In 2009-10 you will see the hottest titles ever coming to PS3 as exclusive. Why not for XBOX ? The main reason is the poor backward generation DVD drive.. Rockstart Houser has said that unfortunately GTA 5 might be too big for the DVD disc.

Enjoy smooth gameplay with mandatory installs which only take up about from 5-10 minutes. Play games without a single loading screen !

Enjoy free ONLINE services provided by SCE. Whoever said that PSN is laggy, they definetely need to get their facts right. Almost all games use P2P in games, which means information travels from 1 player to another. Which means that its up to your internet connection if you will have laggy times. When you have a good internet connection then you dont have to worry about high latency.

What you fail to remember with your "PS3 waits for AAA titles" is that the 360 followed the exact same pattern.

Are you still playing KAMEO? No.
Are you still playing PREY? No.
Are you still playing PEERFECT DARK ZERO? No.
Are you still playing NINETY NINE NIGHTS? No.
Are you still playing AMPED3? No.

Fact is, the 360 was out 8-12 months before the likes of "Gears", "Halo3" and "BioShock" started landing, so its not like you didn't wait for AAA titles either.

You waited a year for your big titles, and now we're getting ours after a year or so. Its the same damned pattern. The difference is, I'm on my first PS3 and you're probably on your 3rd 360.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was only the beginning. PLAY B3YOND.

MGS4 could both be only the beginning or a rare jewel in a sea of rough stones.

I'm saying this because, for what has been shown, I'm having a hard time figuring out which could be the next Triple A title for the playstation 3.

Now, Ps fans will disagree with me, and will tell you that I honestly don't post anything unless I've given it quite some thought. For example, Resistance 2. Whoever says it's shaping as a triple A title in its current form it vastly biased. The game features absolute average gameplay, visuals not on the level (or even close) of MGS4 or Gears 2 and very poor A.I. Insominiac will need to work their arses off before its release if they want to do better than they did with Resistance 1.

I think that LBP will be a big niche game, it might be extremely popular among Playstation fan but I'm not if you can put this game in the level of full featured games. For example, yes a PSP game can get a 9/10, but will it be comparable to a 9/10 on the Playstation 3? Will it have the same impact? I honestly don't know, I could be right or wrong here.

Apart from that, what else is coming out for the PS3 that should have their fans excited about this year? Remember that the guys at redmond have a full arsenal of titles awaiting to be released starting next month. Sony doesn't seem to be prepared, software wise, to counter that attack, in my modest opinion.

I don't think you can justify claiming that PS3 owners who support Resistance2 are "biased", because 360/Xbox supporters have been the exact same way about Halo, which to me is the most "average" FPSer I've ever played.

What doest the 360 honestly offer that I can't get on PS3 or PC?
Seriously, if you take an honest look at the top 30-40 rated 360 titles you'd notice that most of them are also on PS3, and those that aren't are available on my PC.

As a PS3 owner, I've been personally excited about:
- Metal Gear Solid 4
- Final Fantasy XIII
- God of War III
- Gran Turismo 5
- Uncharted Drakes Fortune
- Killzone 2
- Disgaea 3
(also multiplats like Oblivion, CoD4, Fallout3, BioShock, GTA4 etc)

Think about it, it isn't like last generation when games were coming out left, right, and centre. It isn't about Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo it's about the whole generation moving a lot slower. In two years time I know for sure I won't be getting any next generation console. I'll only think about it around the 7 - 10 year mark and that's about it.

Last generation people were begging for a new console and since you can do so much with these consoles, why get another in two years. I honestly think the Nintendo Wii will age the fastest just based on the software (games). The more you can do with the console besides gaming, will make a lot of buyers wait a lot longer. Last generation there were no movie rentals, online stores, online 3D communities, HD (High Definition) downloads...etc. With that alone will last me, let alone the games themselves.

The next consoles would have to really impress me besides graphics otherwise it makes no point upgrading, if my current console can do the same. This is what will hold people back what can it do that my last console won't offer?

The best analogy I can come up with is buying a console is like buying a house. Once you make the investment it will be hard for you to convince me to move out within 5 years if everything I need is in this location.

Actually I totally would bet on Sony next gen. If MS releases a 720 in 2011 I guarantee you that people are gonna wait and see on the hardware side to make sure they aren't stiffed. CD and DVDs where wanted because the price did not exceed a certain level and it was a level of quality they wanted.

I missed the boat on lower prices crushing all tech... and I agree with you 100% on that note. But my bet is that by 2011, 80% of people are going to have an HDTV. Maybe not now in 2008 but 3-4 years it's going be a different story. If the price points are going to be tighter in 2011, I think people will actually take the time to look at quality. As you've seen in recent N4g postings, both Sony and Microsoft have Wii-mote implementations ready.

What about the ps1 and ps2??? Both were notorious for hardware failures. I owned atleast 5 ps2's. Microsoft atleast extended the warranty unlike Sony with their ps2.

Absolute bollocks. The faulty hardware with ps2/ps1 was no where near on the scale of the 360's RROD. There was a problem with the disc trays with the ps2's at the start of its life. That was fixed, and ps2's are fine. I don't even know what the problem with ps1 was. If there were a problem, again like the ps2, it was probably mandatory hardware faults at launch like most products get. But they were fixed within like a year. Nothing like RROD. Actually the ps2's problems were never fixed and it was absolutely as big as RROD. Most ps2's lasted about a year with the dreaded disc error. But when the ps2 was around, their were no N4G sites where people can easily spread the word around.

PS2's hardware trouble was nothing like rrod. Why is it this is the first time i've heard about this epidamic...and its from you? I have never read anything on the internet that states the scale of ps2 hardware failure was that bad. In my own experience and from everyone i know who has a ps2, i have never known a serious problem like that on mass scale. RROD is an absolute joke. The things i have read on ps2 faults on the internet state that it had disc drive problems at the start of its life but through the majority of the ps2's life it just had the usual breakages, nothing overly serious. To be honest, I've had worse luck with Sony products than Microsoft. My Xbox original and Xbox 360 are fine. No problems. Ever.

For example, Sony's headphones are garbage. they work great for a couple months then crap out on you. From my life experience, Sony products have durability issues.

Every console has huge game launches the xbox360 just got them quicker than other consoles.

i bought a launch ps2 and had no problems either. its probably the other 120 million consoles that were sold with faulty hardware...or something like that =/ over 100 million people wouldnt have bought the ps2 if it was plagued with hardware problems. i use to bring my ps2 over to my friends house in a backpack to play socom ALL the time, it actually still works fine. i just have a 60gb ps3 so i dont really need the ps2 anymore. its probably just ours though =)

Look Bro the PS3 system has been on the store shelves for two years and for those same two years the PS3 fan base has been scrambling around on the internet trying to defend the PS3 at any cost. Yeah that is what winners do....right. The PS3 software sales are still lower than the Wii and 360 combined even if you divided the totals in 1/2.

2009 will be the 360's 4th year still more released titles and more games sold over all. More money for the devs. that put in the time and more quality games to follow. Let’s just see how the holiday and fall releases do for PS3. You could not have forgotten what happened last holiday or the one before that or any of the past 2 years the PS3 has been pushed around buy the 360 and d the Wii. People are openly buying the thing as a stand alone Blu Ray player. The PS3 has done little for SONYS game division. The PSP and PS2 out perform the PS3 day in and day out. GTA 4 still sells better on 360 and that games release was a big indicator of the market leader for upcoming multi platform game releases.

Can you imagine how the Wii would look if the Game Cube still out sold it on a month to moth basis regardless of the fact that the new hardware has been for sale for 2 years?

You are right about the hardware deviancies though. I'll pull one from my PS3 fan bag for this one. "Just wait and See!" I think the PS3 did suffer in some ways from the PS2's issues in the beginning. But look at things now PS3 is now #3 in the USA and rumored to be #2 every where else that buys less games and consoles than the USA. So you mite just be right defective consoles while they may be popular like the PS2, can possibly effect the predecessors negatively. So Microsoft wants to be first to market again with their new console.. the 720.. or whatever. Thats great, it worked realy well for them last time.. (lol)
Now lets be honest, the xb360 has great software but the hardware is crap (Unreliable). Now when (if) Microsoft decided to announce to everyone "hey, we'll be first to market with our next machine", I'd be doing some damage control in the form of an appology. Sorry about the xb360 hardware issues, we'll be carefull this next time around.
I work in the video game industry and have heard both the PS3 Fanboy/360fanboy comments about the reliability issues with xb360, but when it comes down to it, I look at the customer as a whole.. and dawn I felt bad for alot of them.

If it works its good, if it doesnt.. its crap. If you try and convince everyone there is no real issue and the majority of people are not having problems... while there is something very wrong... It really is a media disaster. I did agree with Microsofts decission to do the soft recall on the xb360, but everything leading up to that was done very poorly.
I dont wish any bad upon microsoft, I just hope they have learned from their mistakes.

Back to the topic: I might not purchase an XB720 right away, I would need to sit back and see if microsoft makes any of the same mistakes.

Dude, I've seen people go through ,2,3,4.. and some extreme case's you wouldnt believe if I told you.(XB360). <-- work at a game place, seriously for a while there it was bad. I dont have a comment about the PS2 defective rate, it was before my time in the sense of selling game hardware, but I did go through one console myself.
Alot of games I personally know who had gone through 2,3,4+ Xb360 consoles were .. well OCD man, they treated they games/hardware like gold.. so it wasn't the owners fault. I love my first xbox, it was more reliable then the first two xb360's I've owned.

Their is still 2 and a half years of primetime games coming for 360,3.5 years if the next Xbox comes in 2011.I think by Fall 09' we will see games top out graphics and gameplay wise,dev's will tweak and ring out as much juice as they can,but things will get topped out by Fall 09' pretty much,at that time I will really start to look for the next Box. E3 09' sounds about the right timje to start hearing real concrete talk about the next Box in Fall 10' or Fall 11'...

Also if you got the time you could always be an XNA member and make your own games for the xbox 360 until 2020. Another cool thing would be if they actually made new games for the new xbox that worked on the old one. How would that be possible? Update the OS to only see certain lines of code so some effects would be missing. I mean most of these game could run on the old xbox with out the graphic level. The recent "Count me out" -article was a some major joke. The guy buys a three years old console and then complains that it will be no good anymore beyond 2011. Well, hopefully, they will just go ahead and tack on a couple hundred dollars to the price of this one and go ahead and take out that billion dollar insurance policy ahead of time. My roomate went without a 360 for 2 months since his broke the second week after release. While they are at it, maybe they will just package it in it's own UPS/Fedex packaging with permanant postage applied, that way, it will save me time when the new one dies on me over and over. Not saying that it will, but lots of you seem to hold sony's past promises and mistakes against them, without even owning the system AND failing to recognize the worst blunder in GAMING HISTORY!!! The point is not that Microshot is coming out with a new console in 2011, they can come with a new console every year if it pleases them as far as I am concerned. The point is that they will most probably stop their support of the 360 as soon as they have the xbox 3. So your comparison with ipod, or wii is flawed. Yes there are new ipod every year, but the one you bought last year can still play all the new music that is coming out today. Yes their will probably be a new wii by then, but Nintendo, just like Sony support their previous console for about 10 years. Some people still buy a game cube or a PS2 because they are cheaper, the game are cheaper, there are lots of choice and still new games coming out every year. Which is not the case of the xbox 1. If you want a microshot product and a new game, you need to buy the very expensive latest console (very expensive compared to how much the xbox would cost if it still existed).

well, actually i'd say you are missing quite a few points. for one thing, playstation 2 destroyed xbox in terms of sales and software support. maybe 10-20 million ppl had xbox, probably close to 100 mil had a ps2. and the dev kits already exist so nobody has to pay more money to develop for ps2. now the ps3...has a much weaker install base. so the developers realize that while maybe 10 million ps2 owners now have ps3, still about 90 million just have ps2...or got a 360 (which is likely to be the case for a small percent), so that means there are a ton of ppl still playing in the last generation, so why not make games for them if you can make them quick, easy, and cheap?

most xbox owners, however, have moved on. they got their 360s. so why would anyone make games for a system nobody plays? and lets not forget, it's 3rd party support that is keeping ps2 afloat. not sony itself. 3rd parties developers can make games for whatever.

as for your ipod analogy...well if they released a new style of audio compression, then you would have to release a new ipod, and that would make old ipod's obsolete. but since the market is content with the quality of mp3s, they don't have to worry about that.
the point the guy in the article was making is that why cry about having to spend a few hundred bucks on a console every 5 years when people spend money upgrading other things that don't really need to be upgraded a lot more often than that?

about ps2 failure rates...and all have more negative feedback than positive? it's like sony fangirls live on another planet.

EVERY person i know that owned a ps2, was on their 2nd or 3rd. there is no exception to that rule. i had one, sold it, it broke in about a year...and the movie playback went bad in about 3 months. a good friend of mine who was obsessed with sony told me he was on his 5th system.

that is insane...and then the fangirls criticize 360. well, like i've said many times, we'd know if ps3's had failure rates...if anybody actually turned theirs on. now that metal gear is out, i bet we start hearing about system problems on the new gen too.

i have a day 1 xbox and a day 1 360 and both still work fine.

and as for this article...he's absolutely right. he makes perfect counter points. the other article was obviously written by a fangirl. and if anyone bought into sony's "10 year plan," you're a moron. people upgrade their computers more often than every 5 years, so why would sony think we would be happy with the same graphics for 10 years?? that's just nuts.

Lets all take a minute to soak in the facts. Progress only needs to move in one direction. Forward!!! It takes half the time to create something today as it did yesterday, and by tomorrow it will take a fraction of the time it took today. Microsoft apparently thinks that current gen consoles will be out dated within the next few years, and for good reason. In the world we live everything is out dated almost as soon as its marketed. TV's, phones, cars, etc... I say if the worlds ready for the 720 by 2011, then let it roll.

Microsoft will make great improvements to the next Xbox:
1. It will burn whole blocks instead of just a house.
2. The sound will be of that of an airplane engine.
3. games will come in DVDs 'cause..."more space is not needed"
4. First year consoles will have 20gigs because..."Digital Downloads are the future".
5. Controllers will use squared batteries.

sigh. as long as i have been a gamer i just cant understand the hostility towards "opposing consoles". ive been an xbox owner since the original, never had an interest in PS2, didnt get a 360 until about 2 years give or take after launch, and i just recently bought a PS3.

Bottom line: Both are great systems, both have great games, both have their flaws, and there is only one reason to favor one and trash the other - if youre a complete moron. Im not trying to be offensive or anything, but seriously, grow up.

If you have the money, buy both. If you dont, enjoy what you have and stop making stupid ignorant statements if you dont even play the other system.

Xbox720 really? Disc space is a problem for 360 right now. What are they going to put the games on HD Dvds? 720 will have to play bluray movies because too many people own them now and definitely will by 2012. How much is it gonna cost to produce a system that plays HD dvd and blurays? 720 games prolly gonna have to be on bluray. M$ will have to pay royalties to sony. So 720 development has started if by development you mean M$ is tryin to figure out how to not pay sony next generation.
