How about some uncompressed comparisons please?

system223550d ago

Web browsers don't support uncompressed image formats except maybe tifs, but without lzw compression a tif would be hard on the browser and horrible for loads

system223550d ago (Edited 3550d ago )

Png (portable network graphics)re also compressed as their name suggests though they can at least do 24 bit color. . The only graphic files that aren't compressed are tif, dpx, exr, targa, cr2 and a few others

XBLSkull3550d ago

I was 95% sure they would release this game on x1/ps4, I wish I would have trusted my instincts and waited. They being said it was the 2013 GotY, and I'll go ahead and take in the experience once more, it really is an incredible game, nobody makes games quite like rockstar

GarrusVakarian3550d ago

But aren't PNG's lossless? I know they're a compressed format, but an uncompressed image and a PNG would look identical, no?

system223550d ago (Edited 3550d ago )

Well "lossless" is a bit of a misnomer as any time you reduce information, you are in fact losing information. That said, png is arguably the best low bandwidth graphics format with 24 bit color support and probably yields the best compression result for still images but... actual uncompressed image formats will not lose any information and also can operate in a 32 bit float environment so the individual rgb channels have a full range of value rather than being limited to 256 shades per channel or 1024 as in the case of a 16 bit

Nafon3549d ago

Even JPGs would look better than this.

KUV19773549d ago (Edited 3549d ago )

Lossless compression is not a misnomer in the case of png. Consider this: Storing the following information 00000000000000000000 is exactly the same as storing 20x0. There is no loss of information, yet the second version takes only 20 percent of the space. When displaying it back to you it can generate the original information flawlessly without needing the same space. Obviously the algorithms for PNG aren't as simple as my example, but PNG does not lose quality. Now reducing the color-depth is a whole different matter, but uncompressed has nothing to do with color depth. You can have an umcompressed image with 8bit as well as a compressed image with 32 bit. Different properties really. One can speak of color-compression but that is not what is usually meant, nor is it what happens in PNG per default.

Why? You can still see the graphics are vastly improved.

Sketchy_Galore3550d ago

This is one remaster that's completely welcome for me. I loved GTAV but the grainy look of it would make me feel sick when I played for too long and some of the textures, especially grass were just ugly. Still I kinda wish I hadn't already done absolutely everything there is to do in the single player mode. I knew this upgraded version was inevitable and I knew I wouldn't be able to wait for it but I probably should have at least held off on a few side missions.

Agent20093550d ago

There will be additional story content for the remaster ;-).

Lwhit63550d ago

And new music on the radio stations!

Jaqen_Hghar3550d ago

Can never see these things very well on a PC screen for some reason (probably because a man's is 720p lol) anywho after the vast difference in TLoUR a man is happy about remasters as long as they're done right. Might even pick this up at launch.

InTheLab3550d ago

Speaking of, I find it interesting that there's no "do we really need gta5 remastered?" articles like there were for TLoU.

Lwhit63550d ago

From what I've heard GTA is more of a remaster than TLOU was. Nonetheless TLOU was a great game both times around but this GTA remaster just seems better to me.

Jaqen_Hghar3550d ago

cause it's not PS4 exclusive so the haters can't insult it lol oh wait it has Playstation marketing guess the Xbots will be out soon

metalgod883550d ago

Obviously, the biggest difference is the lighting. There are a few small details added to objects as well here and there. I hope the game runs at 60fps. That would be amazing.

Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5) Best Settings for Low End PC: RTX 3060/RX 6600/RTX 4060 Laptop GPU

Grand Theft Auto V was released over 9 years ago, but the player base is largely intact due to regular updates to the Online Multiplayer. The game had some technical issues at launch, most notably a CPU utilization issue, but most recent chips shouldn’t have any issues running it.

i think the only real loss is GTAV

OtterX9d ago

I think everyone and their sister owns the game by now. They likely want to squeeze the rest of the holdouts before GTAVI releases.

Profchaos9d ago

That game comes and goes from subscriptions so frequently I think it's expected now. Like rdr2 on gamepass Rockstar Games only last a max of 3 months On a service

MrBaskerville9d ago

Talos Principle is the real loss.

BanginTunes9d ago

Facts that game is good as fuck I'm playing through 2 now, very underrated

Huey_My_D_Long9d ago

indivisible was pretty neat. Cute artstyle, fun throwback to older RPGs, shame its leaving but it is on sale often

shinoff21839d ago

Definitely. I e joyed what I played of it. Still gotta grab the physical at some point

Petebloodyonion9d ago

I'm not surprised by GTA V removal, Rockstar never allows this game to stay long on a subscription service.
They usually allow 4 to 6 months.

lodossrage9d ago

Yeah, they do that routinely with both GTA and Red Dead.

But it's because they know they can still sell them so they take them off and on to these sub services in cycle.

The weird thing to me is why is anyone still buying those games at this point? You would think after 3 generations of being sold GTA 5 that everyone and their momma would have it by now

RNTody9d ago

I fail to see how the loss of an almost 11 year old game that released across 3 generations is in any way a problem.
