Rumor: Possible COD5 rename, plus box arts

The rumors just keep coming readers! This next one is from the same source as all the rest, and has to do with the next installment in the Call Of Duty series. Just like the fourth installments various box arts, it seems that the fifth installment will have many different box arts before any single one is chosen to represent the game. Also, as you may have noticed, none of the box arts have the number "5" on them anywhere. Could this be a ploy on Activision's part to ensure that the best-selling COD4 continues to sell all the way through to the end of the year and beyond? Seems likely.

because Treyarch is back at the helm of Call of Duty for the fifth installment of the game. Come CoD6 once Infinity Ward gets the game back I think we'll see another modern warfare. Honestly I think it would be best to either give Infinity Ward the CoD franchise or to just branch the franchise. Let Treyarch do CoD World War edition, and let Infinity Ward continue their Modern Warfare Edition. Instead I think we're now left w/ a Treyarch [WW] Infinity Ward [Modern] trade off. Treyarch one year, Infinity Ward the next... Then again, you put both franchises on the market then you're competing not only against other franchises but your own as well...

because treyarch suchs they fuked up spiderman 3 and they sucked at cod3, secondly the game will look last gen because they still dont have a handle on next gen development Cod3 looked horrible compared to cod2 on xbox 360. and 3rd, it's back in the already tired and need to retire World War 2. they better make a futristic one and i'm sure that will be infinityWards next COD. I'll just wait till next year when they come next with COD6... till then activition and Treyarch can kiss the left and right @$$ cheek.

and no matter how they are trying to spin off the title, I think many are still going to skip this installment of CoD. at least I know I will. so do a lot of my friends! the only thing I want to see is how activision is going to brag about this comes it's release and how they will say it's better than CoD4. we know how how it turned out during CoD3 and it was inferior to CoD2. it's the same scenario all over again - Treyatch vs Infinity Ward!

Glad to see they have removed the number one. Hopefully the real sequel to COD4, developed by Infinity Ward gets that 5.

Also, 4 of 5 present boxes seem insanely generic. The one with no soldier and just hanging helmets is the only good one IMO.

Is the only one that looks like a Resistance Fall of Man cover, without the skull. YES I do realize that there may be box arts before that that had hanging helmets, I'm just pointing out one.

Yeah, I only liked that one and it indeed feels really like the Resistance's boxart. They'll probably go with the most generic one with full body of a soldier on it.

I think Activison is giving us some kind of hidden message saying that COD5 is nothing compared to COD4 hence the name change with no number. Infinity Ward is awesome and I hope they are put in charge of the true COD series and give other companies the spin-off names instead of numbering them.

While COD4 had great production values and a solid multiplayer, it really wasn't all that diffrent from COD or COD 2 both great games but COD4 is not even close to hard, on the singleplayer side, you have infinite respawning enemies so the only way to beat the level is to advance istead of killing all of the enemies, there are too many enemies, and while it makes for great cinematic moments it is just plain annoying at most parts, the bullets going through objects is just a gimmick, the environments are pretty but stale oh and last there is a respawn point every like 5 steps and no penalty for dying, this completly negates any difficulty setting ever made. I could go on and on, but anyway COD4 is a great game but it's not the legend that everyone is pointing it out to be, COD3 sucked, and this one will just be the same old COD,COD2 and COD4 basic repetitive gameplay. Why don't we all go and play a shooter with actual depth now.

I didn't like the SP campaign in COD4 for the respawning reasons but the multiplayer rocks, that's the only reason I still play COD4. That may change once Resistance 2 comes out later this year.

I think the reason why the boxarts have no 5 is because it wont be COD5 just a multiplayer only game set in WW2 and COD5 will be made by Infimity Ward after all

while the first COD blew my socks to bangkock the gameplay has remained the same since the first, not bad gameplay but it gets boring and repetitive quite quickly, and the multiplayer is good, but I mean c'mon guys, do you honestly think it's that hard to make a good multiplayer, a mp game's experience is not created by the developer but the people you are playing with.

do i have to suck at a game to not like it? i mean...not that i think it should be necessary to break down your comment. but lets just think about this for a second. If i think a game is absolutely horrible (which it is) that would mean that i've probably played it and am somewhat familiar with the game. otherwise, how could i say i don't like it? but at the same time, if i hate a game, why would i obsess over it for hours and hours as you obviously have to get good at it?

chances are i am probably somewhere in the middle. and that's where i am. i beat the game on hard, it was boring and short. i played online for about 2 days with my friends who thought it was "amazing." i did okay. i wouldn't claim to be good at a game i can't stand. that's just silly. I would, however, claim that it would probably only take a few hours of attention for me to get as good as everyone else. how hard is it to spawn, spam grenades, die from a random nade, then spawn and do it again? it's hardly the best shooter this generation...unless you only have a ps3, then yes. you're right.

but with all that aside, i'm pretty sure the point of what i was saying is that they crank one of these titles out about every 10 months. that's more than sports titles. doesn't it seem kinda sad that people are shelling out 60 dollars every 10 months for essentially a repackaged product that has hardly changed since last generation?

p.s. don't gimme that "modern warfare" crap either. all they did was take the same exact game, change the skins and add a laser sight on the guns. it's still the same graphics engine they've been using since ps2.

Why is this even "news"? It was established long ago that the next Call of Duty wouldn't actually carry the number as it's just a spin off. Call of Duty 5 will be the next one released by Infinity Ward...

I'm quite interested in it. I liked COD 3 and thought it was pretty desent. COD 4 is just COD 2 in modern times, but the gameplay is pretty much the same. If you guys wanna see some real modern warfare, play Battlefield 2. Unfortunately a lot of you say PC games suck and never get to play a real modern warfare game. And again I mean BF2 for the PC, not the crappy console versions.
