An interesting video clip recently made the rounds in which NBC Sports made its opinion quite clear concerning the Madden NFL series: it “sucks.”

I definitely approve this video and I hope as well more people speak up against madden. Not a hater cause I want madden to be good, but too many issues and lack of innovation is painfully obvious and as consumers, we should have at least two options. I'm not saying every dev under the sun should make a football game, I'm just saying lets have an option.

I don't think Microsoft would want to go head to head with madden and risk EA giving exclusive DLC and other things to Sony. I think they should bring back their baseball franchise or buy MVP baseball from EA and put the old devs back on it.

EA contract with the NFL license is done. It's open season for NFL Football games again. Rex from EA (interview with HipHopGamer) calling out 2K to make a game to go against Madden..

I just feel that it shouldn't be only one company making games for sports. There should be others doing it also. And EA really don't want the scale to tip away from them like NBA 2K did against NBA Live.

Funny only football game I ever bought was 2k5 and I really liked it compared to the times I played Madden. I bought Nba live 2001 hated it from then on I've been a Nba2k guy. I thought EA's bread and butter was sports..the moniker should be if it's in the game it's not in our game. Only game they do right is boxing imo.

dont know if iam the only one, but i want an nfl game that i dont have to buy once a year, thats what i want. It's an utopia imo . Even in the hand of a "benevolent" (aka not 100% greed motivated) publishers , the cost and nature of those licenses will entice them to push games , or have some sort of mmo type with constant paid dlc and updates

I never played the 2k series. I saw some clips on YouTube and it looks a lot of fun. I stopped playing madden after the genesis days cause it simply sucks and is no fun whatsoever

Although Madden is not the best game in the world me and my friends are literally still playing a online CCM til this day so i'm enjoying myself but i must be one of the few .. 2k5 wasn't that great gameplay wise imo the presentation was top notch but the gameplay was a button masher, did it have some good things? Yes, directional passing, etc. ...
i just don't know how people can talk how great 2k football will be when their basketball game has been broken for years .. I CANT BLOCK A DUNK ... they have animations on that allow you to dunk on the world but no animation for me blocking the dunk?

all I'm saying is All pro football 2k8 was terrible but no one brings that up when talking about 2k football games ... i do want competition but idk how good a 2k football game would be ...

The idea of 2K5 has taken on a legend of its own. That being said, there were just aspects of the game that were done better. Aspects that Madden had years to nail...and didn't. You are right about the presentation. But, there were other things that were good. So good, in fact, that Madden has incorporated them into its own game. Player reactions to the ball (head turning in order to actually see and react to the ball), no suction blocking (not getting caught in a silly animation), branching tackle animations (more than one player being able to tackle), lack of psychic DB's and LB's (a legacy issue that was with Madden up until the end of last gen), HUGE variety of location specific catch animations (in and out of Madden over time), etc. These are just some of the things that this game did right over 10 years ago.
APF 2K8 was a rushed port of 2K5. It still contained the essence of what 2K was about, but lacked the conviction of trying to do anything different.
As for 2K basketball, while you are correct that you can't always block dunks, it STILL stands head and shoulders above the competition. (which I hope comes back in a BIG way to keep the 2K devs honest).
All in all, I welcome competition in sports video games. It should insure that the devs really focus on trying to make their game shine and keep them from resting on the laurels of success that comes with no competition. It's like winning a race...and you were the only one that ran. Sure you might have beat your personal best, but to be the best you have to beat the best.

I'm simply saying that people are calling 2k to save them with a football game when 2k made a football game after 2k5 and it was bad ... madden def has ways to go and they should've been incorporated certain things into their game as a matter of fact their best things put into the game they took out the next year a certain time last gen i enjoyed Ncaa more then i did madden but thats neither here nor there ...all I'm saying is the online league in madden is top notch and me and my friends still play it and every bashes the game like it's the worst game ever ...

2k8's game play was great. The features were too shallow.

If 2k8 had a fully customizable league and franchise mode, NFL would have dropped EA long ago.

bro you're not going to sit here and tell me there are actual animations for me going up and stuffing a dunk like Hibbert did Melo it's not in there ... of course you do it you hit the ball with your hand every now and then but i mean they have animations for me to get dunked on but not for me to block the dunk ... i've played over 200 hours of the game and have yet to see that animation..

I'm not on the "Madden is hot garbage" bandwagon. Its basically a good game that could be MUCH better with competition to push it. I, too, often felt like NCAA was actually the better game. It seemed to be the incubator for Madden ideas. Some which should have made it into Madden. I think that it gets the hate because of the way things went down with the license and the want of many NFL football fans to play something different...if for nothing more than a change.

Hopefully we see NFL 2K16, but I don't know why there isn't a 2K15 coming out this year when they had a year. Madden sucks. Madden 11 was the last good Madden game I'll even say Madden 12. But 13, 25, and now 15 are all shit. It's just something about the way the game controls or something idk the new Ignite engine is pure trash. And no more create a team which was one of my favorite features from Madden 12 I used to love to create a team and draft my own players and build up my own team.

The only reasons i continue to buy madden is because A. its the only option to play virtual football and B. I just love football so much. With that being said I don't think madden sucks but it has SO many problems , like the horrible commentary that doesn't make sense in a lot of situations, the long loading times and game freezes, the animations in the gameplay need to be improved, and this is just small list of my gripes. NFL 2k plz come back and give Madden competition!

If there is one thing we as gamers have come to realize is that competition breeds competitive advancement. Madden isn't horrible but its far from as great as it could be. With no competition and now not even their own NCAA game to give us an option for American Football choices it seems Madden will continue to be a game of iteration instead of innovation.

I'm so tired of this argument. First off 2k was not that good and everything that was in it was put in madden five years ago. Madden is a much better game at this point in pretty much everything. Um, 2k football games weren't always $20 there was a time they were the same price as madden and they still sold well. It was great because they would try to outdo each other with every release...the big difference between the 2 was that 2k games gave it an arcade approach with less stats and player management. They concentrated on the overall gameplay and presentation... EA promoted realism and filled their game up with every stat under the sun. Do you really care how much a hot dog cost in a stadium? I know i don't, at least not in a VIDEOGAME!...

Simply put, EA took the fun out of it, and once they got the exclusive deal they got lazy cause they had no one competing against them.
