The title sounds like they're hyping the 2nd coming of Tree Jesus. OpenGL can do for PS4 whatever this will do for Xbone so don't see what the fuss is about.

If DX12 can help fix this pretty big problem, http://i5.minus.com/iREkTVF... then color me impressed. :)

maniacmayhem3727d ago

It seems every title that gives just a little excitement or praise to MS is "hyping" to death.

OpenGL will do all that? Really?

Silly Mammo3727d ago

With titles such as "DX12 is a game changer..." without much info or any examples of it running, it does seem like hype.

maniacmayhem3726d ago

@Silly

We have already had more then enough examples of past DirectX API's to know it works and works well.

Why doubt that DX12 will be any different?

ZeroX98763726d ago

Each console will get better on the software side in the next few years. The X1 will see some improvements and so is the PS4.

Latest titles released on the 360/PS3 were amazing graphically compared to their launch titles. I'm expecting the same for this generation.

imt5583726d ago

Yes, it will or maybe already OpenGL can do it :

AMD’s Graham Sellers, Intel’s Tim Foley, and our own Cass Everitt and John McDonald appeared on the same panel to explain the high-level concepts available in today’s OpenGL implementations that reduce driver overhead by up to 10x or more.

With OpenGL, an open, vendor-neutral standard, developers can get significantly better performance – up to 1.3 times. But with a little tuning, they can get 7 to 15 times more performance.

That’s a figure that will make any developer sit up and listen.

Better still: the techniques presented apply to all major vendors and are suitable for use across multiple platforms. And they brought demos, showing what these improvements mean on real world systems.

That’s because OpenGL can cut through the driver overhead that has been a frustrating reality for game developers since the beginning of the PC game industry.

On desktop systems, driver overhead can decrease frame rate. On mobile devices, however, driver overhead is even more insidious, robbing both battery life and frame rate.

You disgrace Uncle Buck... Course Uncle Buck ALSO wouldn't have a clue wtf Open GL can do and tout some non sense about how it's on the same level as DX12.

GUTZnPAPERCUTZ3726d ago

Shut up about OpenGL being as good as DX! It NEVER has been, look up past iterations and the features each boast and you will see why DX has always been the industry standard when it comes to API's rather it be for game design or CGI in movies (DX and D3d), Mantle has come close, but it's really only CPU friendly and hardware limited.

MelvinTheGreat3727d ago

little early too call it a "game changer" much is yet to been seen. for now ill keep my hopes low to avoid disappointment and to avoid gross over statements of it. But atleast this is benefiting both xbox and pc!

MrGunny943727d ago

Probably Yes, but what has been shown in GDC,is making me pumped especially more for the Mobile Phone market than the console, but it will have an impact in console gaming without a doubt.

MelvinTheGreat3727d ago

its exciting times for any gamer whether it be Ps4, xb1, or Pc. exciting times people.

MrGunny943727d ago

Indeed, and the Mobile Market is getting the love they deserve too!

As long as there is competition like there is right now
between

DX 12 - OpenGL and Mantle.

It's what gonna keep these companies to improve their services!

And the customers... Are the ones that win with competition!

christocolus3727d ago (Edited 3727d ago )

Cant wait to see how a new Banjoe or Kameo ,Halo, lost odysee, Alan wake, Ryse, Gears or even Crackdown will look running on this..keeping my fingers crossed and hoping to see some 1st wnd 2nd party games using it at E3..maybe Forza Horizon 2 since its obvious Turn 10 has been working with it.

MrGunny943727d ago

Exactly my thoughts! As soon as we see the first party games with DX12, hopefully we can see the difference.

extermin8or3726d ago

well that wont be till xmas 2015/early 2016... :S

mhunterjr3727d ago

I think it's great that development on the xb1 and other MS platforms will be more efficient, but I'm disappointed that We won't see any fruit until 2 holidays from now.

Pretty cool. Should help devs adopt more modern rendering techniques on both PC & Xbox rather than have to target old versions to cover the majority of their users.

I saw a report that the new Windows update causes a performance decrease in gaming performance.

Here comes another feature update that resets my settings.

Profchaos1467d ago

If it doesn't delete your files ala 1809 consider it a minor victory

1nsomniac1467d ago

I’ve noticed they do this as well.

I wonder how they legally get away with stealthily resetting all the privacy settings to allow tracking and monitoring without notifying you. It was only by chance I noticed it last time.

Unspoken1466d ago

Any software you use does this unfortunately.

1nsomniac1466d ago (Edited 1466d ago )

I think you’re misunderstanding what happens. All your windows settings remain untouched, it doesn’t change any of your settings accept Those related to your privacy. So all those privacy settings you agreed not to share during the installation and other privacy terms that you agreed not to share, within the privacy options page, even your offline linked windows accounts. It secretly enables all of those options without notifying you that it’s changed your selected options that both parties had agreed to. I don’t think they’ll be allowed to continue to do that under GDPR laws so we’ll see if it happens again. However unfortunately for me being in the UK, we won’t have GDPR laws for much longer after we leave the EU.

Crash restart lockup repeat. Windows. Wonder what will happen to people who take health advice from its creator.

I don't have any problems, so the issue is probably someone who thinks Bill Gates has anything to do with the development of Windows in its current form.

Tacoboto1467d ago

"My PC sucks" = "Bill Gates' billions and billions of investment in vaccines and cures will kill you"?

BigTrain1466d ago

Crash, the END. That's what'll happen.

Asuka1467d ago (Edited 1467d ago )

As a note: WDDM 2.7 requires you to have updated drivers (which currently no official WQHL driver w/ support is available for Nvidia yet. Only development branch 450.xx). Also you need a 7th gen or newer Intel CPU w/ igpu, or a 10 series or newer Nvidia GPU, or latest AMD offerings.

WGAF1467d ago

Last time I update, the ethernet driver wasnt available so no matter what (even factory reset) I can't go online. The only way to update is to go online lol. Well I always wanted an offline laptop, so I guess got what I wish for :/

Fishy Fingers1466d ago

Use wifi (or tether to the device your posting from now) and download the driver.
