Valve announces SteamOS, Sony hopes to stream games to other devices, GTA 5 crashing on older consoles & Retro Studios' Metroid news.
The Outerhaven writes: While Steam has come out recently, stating that Steam accounts can't be transferred, we need to think about it since we all will eventually kick the bucket. But if Valve is denying transferring accounts, what can be done? Plenty, actually.
It goes to my kids because I gave them the passwords.
To Steam: Missio has a song that conveys my feelings about you stealing my purchase after I die. It's called "Middle Fingers"
I suppose if I have kids, I'd just give em my account details by retirement age. If I die young then...idk lol.
Yea, I mean just give someone the password to your account. Is that difficult to do or something? Like, I’m legit asking because I don’t know.
Grand Theft Auto V was released over 9 years ago, but the player base is largely intact due to regular updates to the Online Multiplayer. The game had some technical issues at launch, most notably a CPU utilization issue, but most recent chips shouldn’t have any issues running it.
In case you were curious, a Steam account transfer via will is not permitted according to an official response from Valve.
Would be nice if the article's writer looked into and reported whether other digital game libraries could be transferred over via will (Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo, EGS, EA app, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, Rockstar Launcher etc) instead of this half-baked piece but it's probably the same for all of them anyway
This seems like a way bigger issue than mandatory PSN account linking for PlayStation games.
So where is the outcry?
I think SteamOS has a lot of potential and I'm excited by the prospect of greater performance in games on this OS. But at the same time I'm a bit concerned that it will further fragment the PC gaming market.
Backwards compatibility is one of the strengths of PC gaming and the switch to a new OS would result in a clear demarcation in compatibility with games past and future.
I don't want to have to build a whole new system, but I also don't want to leave behind all my programs and games on Windows. I guess I will dual boot if possible, but that comes with its own hassles.
Nevertheless, this could be a very good thing for PC gaming. It might be one of those things where it's like "well, we have to move on to something better at some point", even if it means leaving behind compatibility with previous software.
Maybe some day we will have a windows emulator on SteamOS that allows us to play Direct3D/Windows games the same way we use DOSBox to play DOS games today.
Anyway, Steam is fantastic, Valve is awesome. I'm excited to see how this all plays out. I look forward to the next two announcements.
Im happy with windows for my EVERYTHING.
Fragmentation is not required unless its something that can be dual booted with little issues or maybe like a hot switch between os'es?
For professionals who game time to time steam os may not be useful.
All the love people have for the new Steam OS announcement and the (impending?)Steambox but, apparently MS was the gaming nazi with the original visions and hopes for the Xbox One? Give your heads a shake guys.
GTA is crashing on older systems? I've been playing GTA on my launch 20GB system and my 120GB Elite system....All is well on this homefront. Finished the game yesterday even.
No backward compatibility, no buy.
WTF OMG... Stream PS3 games on PC ? That would be cool for us poor kids that can't have ps3. Maybe :D !
